It seems like we have been waiting on this news for years, but it appears like it is finally here. There are still a lot of details that need be worked out, but we are finally about to get an idea for what the Tennessee Titans 2011 roster is going to look like. We do know that the turnaround time is going to be quick. The front office has a lot of decisions to make in a short amount of time.
Hopefully the Titans have already had a conversation with Chris Johnson's agent telling him that CJ is a priority but because of the circumstances his contract is going to have to be on the back burner for a bit.
The first thing they have to do is identify who the veteran QB is going to be. We know that it won't be Kerry Collins. I still think the guy they want is Matt Hasselbeck. He has connections with three guys in the front office, and ties with offensive coordinator Chris Palmer. The only question will be if Hasselbeck is willing to come here an accept a mentor role.
It could get interesting if Hasselbeck isn't the guy. The list of guys that are free agents behind him is pretty bad. ESPN's Matt Williamson has suggested that Donovan McNabb would be a good mentor for Jake Locker, but he is still under contract with the Washington Redskins right now. They shouldn't give up draft picks to get him, so they will have to wait until the Redskins cut him. That shouldn't be a problem though because Washington will probably do that pretty quickly. Again, he would have to be willing to take the role.
Then they have to deal with Kenny Britt. I expect Mike Munchak to step in and impose a suspension before the NFL gets a chance- probably a couple of games. I doubt Roger Goodell will tack anything on, but we will have to wait and see what happens there.
After all of that, they will be able to work on somethings on the actual football field. That is a lot of stuff to get done in a short amount of time, but who cares? FWe are going to have a football season!
