The Tennessee Titans have picked up some more depth at linebacker this year with the selection of Colin McCarthy. McCarthy brings to the table what you'd expect out of a Miami linebacker; great instincts, strong play against the run, and an excellent tackler. He seems like another one of those hard working guys that the franchise is pursuing this year. His motor never dies and he isn't one to give up on a play.
McCarthy is definitely a wild-card at this point though; his numerous shoulder surgeries make him a cause for concern, but apparently he's even higher on Tennessee's board than Oregon LB Casey Matthews, so take that for what it's worth. McCarthy also brings with him some versatility. He's played on the strong side, in the middle, and on the weak side as well, but I think that this is no doubt a move that sends Stephen Tulloch packing; we basically just drafted the same exact player who I expect will be moved to inside linebacker further down the road.
Something else to note: McCarthy is a pretty solid pass rusher. He shows adequate skills coming off the weak side and has some solid instincts. I've seen him rated as high as the 83rd overall player in the draft this year, so I think that if his shoulder stays healthy that he could have a very solid career.
