The Tennessee Titans have selected USC DT Jurrell Casey with the 77th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Apparently the goal of the Titans is to become the Pac 10 of the South. Casey left USC early to enter the draft after a 2010 season where he racked up 11 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He gives the Titans some of the size they need in the middle of the defensive line at 6-0 300 pounds.
ESPN says that Casey is exceptional against the run and above average as a pass rusher. This from there scouting report on his skills against the run (In$ider):
Short, squatty DT with a wide base and surprisingly quick feet. Stays low out of stance. Can take on blocks and control a gap. Uses sand in rear to anchor. Shows good upper-body strength to lock out but short arms do show up on tape at times. Has athletic limitations but certainly quick enough to disengage and make plays in pursuit. Pursues hard and packs a punch as a tackler. A solid all-around tackler in space for a 300-pounder.I am going to have to do some more research on Casey, but he seems like a solid addition at this point in the draft.
