A lot of teams are going to be on pins and needles while the Buffalo Bills are on the clock in the first round. It is looking more and more likely that the Panthers will be taking a quarterback with the first pick. That means that one of the two top 10 guys will be off the board. The Broncos more than likely aren't taking a QB, as they didn't in this mock, so that will leave on of the two, Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton, there for the Bills at three. The Bills are better at QB than some teams in the NFL, like say your Tennessee Titans, but I don't think anyone believes that Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to take the team to a Super Bowl.
Obviously Brian Galliford, the head writer over at Buffalo Rumblings, took this into account when making the pick for the Bills. He selected Patrick Paterson, CB, LSU.
Here is some of what Brian had to say about the pick:The Bills have a quarterback they're comfortable with in Ryan Fitzpatrick. That means it'll take consensus between GM Buddy Nix and head coach Chan Gailey to take a quarterback this early. I get the sense that Nix - who has deep ties to Auburn - will be keener on Newton than Gailey, despite the general opinion being the opposite. Newton's lack of polish as a thrower, I'm guessing, will prevent Gailey from getting too high on him - and those character concerns are a problem, obviously. Without consensus, I think the Bills pass - and the fact that I'm not completely sold on Newton is just the icing on the cake.
I think this is a great pick. Peterson might be the safest player in this draft because worst case scenario he turns into a really good safety. This is a guy that you know is going to be a cornerstone of your defense for 10 years.
