Hopefully we are only going to have to speculate about this for a few more hours because after practice today one of our trusty beat writers will ask Mike Munchak, "Have you or anyone who represents you talked to anyone that represents Penn State about their head coach position?" The question needs to be that specific so that if there have been conversations he either has to admit it or outright lie.
But even before all of that, this tweet from Paul Kuharsky says it all to me:
People at Penn State wanting Munchak and people at Penn State getting Munchak are two vastly different things.
The article that Smash linked this morning that says Munchak is Penn State's first choice mentions that the second choice would be Packers' QB coach Tom Clements. The article specifically says that Clements has interviewed twice in the last two weeks. It doesn't say anything about Munch interviewing which leads me to believe that he has not.
The only link I can find out there that has anything saying that Munchak is interested in the job is this one at StateCollege.com. I don't put a whole lot of stock in anonymous sources from a site that has a picture that is so blurry you can barely even tell it is Munchak.
I would be a lot more worried about this rumor if Joe Paterno had decided to retire at the end of the season because he thought it was time to move on. The fact that he was forced out because of what went on means that the program up there is going to be a mess for a long time. Why would Munchak want to leave a situation where he has a good, young football team that is on the cusp of being a Super Bowl contender to go up there and deal with all of that mess?
It wouldn't make any sense to me, but people do things all the time that don't make sense to me. You never say never in situations like this until they have hired their next coach. I will feel a whole lot better about it once we get an adamant denial from Munch. He doesn't strike me as the type of person who would outright lie. We shall find out soon.
