Why the Titans Still Need Albert Haynesworth

The Titans still need Albert Haynesworth.  He is the most disruptive defensive player in the NFL when he wants to be.  I get that the key phrase there is "when he wants to be," but if you have a chance to get that type of player with a 3rd round or lower pick you are crazy not to pull the trigger.

We are all very excited about this defensive line, and with good reason.  They looked really good in the preseason and the season opener against the Raiders, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.  The preseason means absolutely nothing, and the Raiders have one of the worst offensive lines in all of football.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying that we shouldn't be excited about what this unit has.  Jason Jones is a Pro Bowler if he can stay healthy for 16 games.  Tony Brown is a very good player.  Derrick Morgan looks to be the real deal.  Jacob Ford and Jason Babin are good pass rushers.  William Hayes hasn't even played yet, and he was penciled in to be a starter.  There is a lot of talent there with an unlimited ceiling, but we are talking about adding a dominant player for depth purposes. Oh, and there is the fact that Fat Albert makes all of the players listed above 20% better.

"But he only plays 40% of the plays."  Fantastic, that is all they need out of him, and you better believe that Jim Washburn will lite a fire under his butt for that 40%.

"I am not sure we should mess up the chemistry in the locker room."  Who cares?  It isn't like he is going to be in there talking Sen'Derrick Marks into only playing hard part of the time.  What is he going to do?  Piss off the offensive line?  So what?

"We need the draft pick."  This is the most ridiculous of all.  You name me a player that was taken in the 3rd round or later that has this type of potential.  Paul Williams?  Thanks.

The bottom line to this is that it can't do anything but make the 2010 version of the Tennessee Titans a better team, and I know it is only week 1, but the AFC looks wide open to me.  Adding Albert would take this team from a wild card contender to a pretty good bet to win the division.  I'll take that.
