Chris Johnson talked with the media yesterday at his football camp, but CJ2K is not saying peep about when CJ2K will rejoin the team. The main reason this bit of non-news is leading the links is because of this beautiful bit of reporting:
But Johnson dodged contract-related questions like he raced past defenders last fall. Asked when he plans to report to the team, he said: "I don't know. I'm just working out.''
Asked if he's prepared to hold out until he gets a new contract, he said, "No comment.''
Asked if he or his agent, Joel Segal, were prepared to play hardball with the Titans, he chuckled and said, "No comment." Segal could not be reached for comment Monday night.
I almost cried one little tear when I read that. This is the rare occasion where both sides of the contract dispute have a legitimate point, and neither side is being unreasonable: CJ2K already has a contract which he's nowhere near the end of, but he's also vastly outperformed that pay grade for two full years now. What elates me is that he's mature enough to let his tight-lipped agent handle the negotiating tactics, rather make a public display of his unhappiness. I wish this was CJ's original course of action, and I hope it's his party-line until this whole mess comes to an end. Oh, and don't worry about CJ2K missing all of camp: he has to be back with the team at least 30 days before the season starts or he adds another year to his unrestricted free agent clock.
Follow us through the jump for links on the Titans who aren't suspended or holding out...
Titans training camp starts on July 31st, which is a much later start date than Fisher gave the guys last year. The preseason will begin just two weeks after that date with a LenDale-less exhibition in Seattle.
Paul K recaps the Titans' OTA practice from yesterday, and relays a heated exchange between Nate Washington and Cortland Finnegan. The two began screaming at each other pretty seriously in the middle of practice, but Nate just dropped it... because that's what Nate does with everything.
Hey, did you guys know that LeGarrette Blount punched a guy after a game in college? I'm just glad to hear that he's doing his best to move beyond it despite still being asked about it by local media guys who've run out of story ideas.
