Breaking: Randy Moss to the Tennessee Titans

The Tennessean is reporting that the Tennessee Titans won the waiver claim for WR Randy Moss.

Here is my quick opinion on this:

Randy Moss stretches defenses just by being on the field.  Even though his speed isn't what it was 5 years ago defenses still have respect his ability to get over the top on every play.  Can you imagine what that will open up for Chris Johnson?  He immediately fills the role that is vacated by Kenny Britt being out for an extended period of time.

Now there is a reason that 2131 other teams didn't claim him, and those reasons have been well documented.  The great thing about this deal is that there really isn't any risk.  If he comes in and shuts it down in the first game or causes a problem in the locker room you cut him and it doesn't cost you anything other than the game check or two he played for.

It just seems to me that the possible reward in this situation far outweighs the risk.

We will have a lot more on this as the day goes along.

UPDATE: Randy Moss' agent says the following (via Wyatt):

"Randy is looking forward to coming to Tennessee. He is ready to play," agent Joel Segal said.

UPDATE: Kuharsky is weighing in, and includes this little gem:

Early in the day Fisher did consider hypotheticals on the “Dan Patrick Show,” and said part of a Moss arrival would be accompanied with a clear conversation about how the Titans' locker room works and the expectations for him to fit into it.

Kerry Collins, who played with Moss in Oakland, had this to say about Moss(from the Paul Kuharsky article linked above):

"I never had a problem with the guy -- he was professional, respectful, he was a team guy," Collins said. "I think a lot of the stuff that you see and hear gets overblown. The guy speaks his mind. He’s very truthful with what he says and that doesn’t always play well. He was a great teammate, and I never had a problem with him."

UPDATE: Mike Reinfeldt had this to say according to Titans Online:

"We are always looking for ways to improve our roster. Randy is obviously a Hall of Fame player and has the ability to be a difference maker for our offense."

Jeff Fisher has this to say:

"We had an opportunity to upgrade our offense and Randy has been a tremendous threat wherever he has been. We will bring him up to speed as quickly as possible."

Jim Wyatt is reporting that Jamie Winborn was placed on IR to make room for Moss.
