This is the first of a two-part series.
In the last 24 hours I have heard two different local media member in Nashville suggest that the Titans might be better off this week with Kerry Collins at QB because of his familiarity with Randy Moss. They played together with the Oakland Raiders, you know. That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. It is true that Collins and Moss were on the same team in Oakland, but it was 5 years ago. 5 years! I would dare say that both players are much different players in 2010 than they were in 2005. That pretty much throws the familiarity factor out the window.
[UPDATE]- It isn't like Moss and Collins had a lot of success together in that year either. Moss caught 60 passes for 1,005 yards and 8 TDs. Sure that is a solid year, but his career averages not counting this season are 78/1205/12.
I know there are still people out there who don't really pay attention that think the Titans passing game is better with Collins under center than Vince Young, but it just simply isn't the case anymore. Sure, there were times in the past 4 years that Kerry was the better passer, but if you have paid attention to the games at all this year you can clearly see that VY is actually the better passer now. It really isn't even close. I am not really surprised when I hear that opinion from national media members that don't ever actually watch a Titans game, but hearing guys like Mark Howard and Terry McCormick who are here week in and week out think Collins is the better option with Moss shocks me.
Flawed logic: Collins and Moss played together 5 years ago so they are familiar with each other. That means that Collins is a better fit with Moss.
Solid logic. VY's best passing attribute is throwing the deep ball. Moss's best receiving attribute is his ability to take the ball deep take the top off the defense. Therefore VY and Moss makes the most sense.
This really isn't rocket science.
