Our star running back Chris Johnson won the FedEx Ground Player of the Week for his 154 yard, 1 touchdown performance on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals this week. It's the second time he has won the award this season. Is there a record for how many awards someone gets in a season? CJ has gotten two of these, a monthly award, and two offensive player of the week awards so far this season.
The bigger story is Kenny Britt being screwed out of the Rookie of the Week award. Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno received the award with 88 yards rushing and one touchdown instead. He was just the eighth best running back in the Week 12. On the other hand, Britt had 128 yards and the remarkable game winning touchdown. Even rookie WR Percy Harvin and special teams player LaRod Stephens-Howling had better days than Moreno. Did Britt's fumble cost him the award? For people just glancing at the page to vote and not checking other stats, that doesn't seem to be the case because the voting page doesn't even mention the fumble. Last year Jason Jones got screwed out of the same award.
