John Clayton has a series running now over at ESPN.com called "Curing what ails AFC teams." Here is what he has to say about the Titans:
Cure: The Titans have not made adding talented pass catchers to the roster a high priority, but that needs to change. This is a heavy run-first offense, but in Vince Young, they have a franchise second-year quarterback who could sure use a big-play wideout. Unfortunately, he likely will not get any help this season. Whether it's draft, trade or sign a free agent, the Titans must choose one of these ways to remedy the situation.
The Titans have a couple of guys, Brandon Jones and Roydell Williams, who seem to be coming on. Both of those guys have the potential to be big-play guys. The Titans also have Chris Davis who is a burner. I think the 3 wide receiver sets that feature Jones, Williams and Davis are going to be feared around the league in the near future.
Receiver is such a hard position to project in the NFL. I was at the head of the Robert Meachem campaign before last year's draft. I even drafted him in our SB Nation mock draft. Meachem has yet to get on the field for the Saints. I think the Titans will be much more pleased in the long run with Michael Griffin.
I have said this a million times before, but I still believe it to be true....Vince Young has the ability to make the players around him better than they really are. I don't think he needs a 1st rounder or a high priced free agent at receiver. He just needs guys that know how to play the position and have a desire to win. He will take care of the rest.
