Michael Vick Accepts a Plea Bargain

New, comment

According to CNN and Zackmann, Michael Vick has agreed to plead guilty in his federal dog fighting case.  Agreeing to this deal means there won't be any further federal charges brought against Vick in this case.  It is unclear how much time he will spend in prison as a result of this deal.

Vick really didn't have a choice on this one.  A federal grand jury was probably going to bring more charges against him this morning.  He was trying to avoid jail time, but that pretty much became impossible when all of the other men accused in the case agreed to testify against him.  He could have taken his chances at trial, but then he would have been facing up to 8 years in prison if convicted.

It is to early to tell what this does to Vick's future in the NFL.  I think it is safe to say that he will never play for the Falcons again, but I think some team will take a chance on him, assuming he is out of prison in 2009.  I am glad he is going to be punished for what he did, and I am glad we will be able to stop hearing about this all the time soon.
