Panthers @ Titans Offensive Recap: Ride The Round Mound

The Tennessee Titans are playing Jeff Fisher football.  That has been said over and over, but it is proving true every week.  It is very exciting to have a team that can play great defense and control the clock on offense.  That formula worked pretty well in the days of Steve McNair, Eddie George and Frank Wycheck.

The Round Mound had another solid performance yesterday.  He rushed for 100 yards for the 3rd straight game.  That is the 1st time a Titans' running back has done that since Chris Brown opened the 2004 season that way.  His yards per carry (3.2) are a little lower than you would like, but his ypc was over 4 in the 4th quarter.  He is a big man that wears down the defense.  If he can shed another 10-15 pounds in the offseason, he will be even better than he is right now.  That is exciting.

Vince Young played better yesterday than he has in the past couple of weeks.  He was 14 of 23 for 110 yards and 2 INTs.    We all want him to show improvement, but all that matters is the Titans are winning.  Here is a fun fact; the year the Titans went to the Super Bowl Steve McNair threw for 76, 112, and 112 yards respectively in each of the playoff games.  That was good enough to get the Titans to the big dance.  We are seeing much of the same formula with Vince.  As long as they continue to win I don't really care what his numbers are.

I still want Vince to look to run a little more.  He could have run for at least 10 yards on the 2nd interception he threw.  These are things that he will see as he gets seasoned in the league.  No one thought Steve McNair was going to develop into the quarterback he did after his 2nd season.  Take a look at this diary White posted.  I know who that is, and we would all take him in a second.  Keep the faith.

This team is not going to be easy on the eyes when looking at the statistics, but I don't really care about that.  The only thing that matters to me is that they win games.  Will the Titans need more in the passing game against teams like the Colts and the Patriots?  Absolutely, but the thing to keep in mind is that they don't face either of those teams anytime soon.  There is plenty of time to fix what ails the offense.  It is going to be a fun ride.
