Around SBN: The Slow Decline of Duke

He Gone

Well, I was leaning toward taking DeSean Jackson in the SB Nation mock draft, but that is not to be as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him with the 19th pick in the mock.  I  know a lot can happen between now and our pick, but it is looking like we might be taking the best player on the board, whoever that is, regardless of need.  I am not sure there will be a receiver, defensive tackle or defensive end that we really want at that spot.  Thoughts?

Jerod Mayo!
Pick a Vol!

How about Erik Ainge...haha.

If you can't trade down
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or Aqib Talib wouldn't be the end of the world.  Jerod Mayo and Dan Connor both look solid (Connor in particular).  Maybe Calais Campbell at DE, but that is a stretch.

Can't trade down....
....and Rodgers-Cromartie is gone.

Woops...
Must have just missed that.

looks like everybody is picking sexy...
over realistically.

These seem like our best bets out of what's left:

  1. Aqib Talib (redundant I agree, but I swear he's top 10 talent and Harper isn't getting older)
  2. Earl Bennett (a slight reach, but a big benefit)
  3. Mario Manningham
  4. Branden Albert
  5. Jeff Otah
  6. Calais Campbel
DEAR M. REINFELDT: PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD DRAFT EARL BENNETT!!!

Maybe a stretch
But I'm still a fan of drafting Dustin Keller and lining him up as an H-back/ WR.  Seems like this would fit Dinger's scheme.  Then go after a burner later in the draft (Donnie Avery, Andre Caldwell, Dexter Jackson).

Check him out for yourself

And a warrior
Keller would add much-needed reliability .  Seems well-spoken too.  He will go to Seattle if we don't get him...no doubt.

If not Devin Thomas
I'd like to see Aqib Talib.

Hmmm... Tough one.
  1.  Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas.
  2.  Jamaal Charles, RB, TX
  3.  Frred Davis, TE, USC.

Mulligan
After doing the scantist amount of research, I agree with WillChance.  Get Dustin Keller from Purdue.

Or Felix Jones from Arkansas.
'Cause he can also return kicks.

Are there any boilermakers on this site to give us their thoughts?

You know what?
Earl Bennett is starting to look like not that much of a reach, with some of the other WRs gone.

That, or maybe Fred Davis.  The problem with him is, we just went and got Crumpler, but Crumpler is older, maybe Davis could rest for a year or so behind Crumpler and Scaife on the depth chart and learn the system.

felix jones please
balmer, branden albert, devin thomas, or even earl would be good too.

Felix Jones
IF he is there but I think (now that we know how it ended) that we wish the browns never lost control of there destiny and kicked us out of the playoffs because I really think the cowboys will grab him.

If that happens I guess Devin Thomas, but I agree with Jimmy that I don't know if he can come in this season and help.

Dustin Keller
Continue to be impressed by that kid, a tough player that seems to have great hands and speed.  I like the idea of him as an H back/TE/next Wycheck.  But will he be available in the 2nd?  I think he might...

Of note, Jordy Nelson is a guy to consider in the 4th or so rounds, playmaker athlete that can return kicks.

I'm a Longhorn follower, and I am scared of the Titans taking J. Charles in the first, or even second.  Something is off with tht kid, he's lightning fast, but I dont think he's very tough, and he's had ball handling problems while in Austin.  Very inconsistent too.  Just got a bad feeling about him in the NFL.

My vote is for Earl Bennett (Vandy WR) or James Hardy (IND WR) in the 1st.  Keller in the 2nd, if available.  Maybe Frank Okam (TX DT) in the 3rd.

Is that a Chicago White Sox joke?

I hate their
announcers more than any in the world!

I am a huge Indian fan, and I dread watching/listening to them. They are the most biased homers in all the world.

Between them saying HE GONE! for every strikeout, Yes! and they actually say it together for every big hit, and their whining like little girls over every call that doesn't go their way I just want to shoot myself.

Oh they are terrible....
....but they are so bad I kinda enjoy it.

You can put it on the boaaaaaard.....YES!!
