With the 54th Pick in the 2008 NFL Draft....
....the Tennessee Titans select Jason Jones, DE, Eastern Michigan.
I had never heard of this kid before 5 minutes ago. He played defensive end and tackle in college. I don't understand where the Titans come up with these guys, but at least this guy grades pretty well, and he did have some success in college.
I am not sure how they can justify not moving up a couple of spots to get either Limas Sweed or Malcolm Kelly. We didn't have anything that even resembled a passing game last season, and they haven't done a single thing in the offseason to make it better. They better hope their running game can carry the team like it did in the early 2000's because we aren't going to make it throwing the ball.
What I don't understand is why you spend the 3rd pick in the draft on a quarterback if you obviously have no interest in using him to win games. I don't have a problem with smash mouth football, but I do have a problem with sinking that much money into a quarterback that is just going to hand the ball off.

Pardon my French
Great, just what we needed...
Ladies and Gentlemen...
What the fuck?
This is awful.
All would have been forgiven had Limas lasted one more pick.
Disgusting.
I can't believe I got all excited for this........
I dont understand
This Sucks!
2 big reaches with the picks...
Dont get it...
If they dont like WR then at least take LB Dan Connor..
Someone try to convince
And still no receiver. I bet Vince is feeling great.
And we could have had Steve Smith in the second last year. Instead he caught passes in the Super Bowl and we watched Chris Henry run up Jacob Bell's ass. And now our second round pick from LAST YEAR is our third running back. Bullshit.
how about this
SI PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2008/draft/players/13287.html
And why
I guess Fisher and Reinfelth
Never pick a reciever in the first round or second for that matter.
I can't believe I sat around my TV from 12:00
Disappointed!
Dont think Reinfelt has done a good job since coming here.
ESPN info on him....
Weaknesses: Lacks prototypical top-end speed for an end, frequently a step slow getting to the quarterback and should struggle to turn the corner at the next level. Doesn't have elite explosiveness either and isn't going to make as many plays in the backfield as did at the collegiate level. Fails to consistently get hands up when isn't going to get to the quarterback. Plays too high, lacks elite lower body strength and can get driven back at times. Played at a small school, relies on natural ability a little too much at this point and could struggle making the adjustment to the NFL. Missed one game with a leg injury in 2006, missed one game with a leg injury in 2007 and durability is a concern.
Overall: Jones arrived at Eastern Michigan in 2004 and moved from tight end to the defensive line midway through his freshman season. He appeared in all 11 games, finishing the year with four receptions for 12 yards. Over the next two seasons (2005-'06), he made 22 starts and recorded 104 tackles (30.5 for losses), 10.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. As a senior, he appeared in all 12 games (11 starts) and had 70 tackles (19.5 for losses), 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a blocked kick. Jones primarily played defensive end for the Eagles, but also took reps at defensive tackle. He missed one game in '06 and one start in 2007 because of separate leg injuries. Jones doesn't have the initial burst or closing speed of an elite edge rusher and he's obviously going to face a much higher level of competition in the NFL so he has to sharpen his technique. That said he has the frame, toughness and motor to develop into an effective power end in a two-gap scheme so he projects as a late third or early fourth round pick.

Fisher is insane
We took a 3rd down back with the first pick as an upgrade(?) to the running game. Is Johnson going to be a starter? Is a change up worth a first round pick? Nope.
It's like picking for need but thinking the only needs are a running game and D-line play. Those two things are Fisher's hallmarks, but ignoring everything else to upgrade those things is dumb.
This draft is so against conventional wisdom that if it doesn't pay out, then it ought to cost the decision makers their jobs.
I'm just hoping...

If this is the plan...
The strategy might pay off but why did Reinfeldt reach? The risk-reward calculation seems way off. Based on pre-draft mocks and analysis these guys were taken way out of place.
There are two approaches to Drafts: filling need, or taking the 'best player on the board'. Reinfeldt owes an explanation to the fans and owes an apology to Vince. He's an outright liar for promising that priority #1 was "finding weapons for Vince". 1st round draft picks may be risky, but if you don't have them on your roster how the f!ck can you expect anyone to develop into a #1.
In my opinion it is absolutely nonsensical to not address the most glaring need on the team. Anyone disagree?
Maybe 'dinger can make Paul williams a pro bowler
You can't coach speed
The second rounder, now that was a reach. I can't find anything that makes me excited about that pick.
I don't think anyone is doubting
At some point we have got to stop the "pick 4 receivers in rounds 4 thru 7 and hope one of them works out" strategy.
If we are gonna take a chance--time to take a chance on a receiver.
I just don't get it.
This draft has driven me to drink already.
Chris Johnson would not have been there at 54....
after reading interviews from the titans site
sounds like 1st round pick was either Felix Jones or Chris Johnson (but they didn't expect mendenhall to fall i guess)
and 2nd round pick probably would've been sweed if he wasn't taken by steelers, but Washburn loved Jones so lets just hope Washburn is right
After I read some of those interviews, I
That second pick is baffling. I suppose we could just trust Coach Washburn's judgment--you'll remember that he hated this class of D-Linemen--but WOW! It's like twice in a row they lost the player they wanted and then freaked and made a mistake.

Relax....
I think I'm
I really think I might say some things I may regret.

i
i think they went for henery last year due to his physical shape and speed. yeah but hello you cant take sterioids in the nfl if that indeed is the case. once they take his roids away he withers on the vine. atleast if that is the case maybe his head will clear and he can find out to step to the side on kickoffs and not make the highlight films for all the wrong reasons.
i like the new guy pretty well. he can return kicks. his speed is really what i like and he can also play wide reciver. so infact we did get a wide reciver with the first pick plus he doubles as a running back and a returner so iam happy.
maybe lendale has gotten the message that he needs to be faster and stay out of the buffet line and hit the weight room.
hopefully this year isnt like last year. where the first pick griffin was a gem and henery was a bust at the second pick.
we need to find players in these high draft choies 1 and 2 that actually end up on the team. imagine if the pacman pick wasnt a wasted pick and we got somebody that was actually going to be on the team for years to come. or if henery wasnt a wasted pick we would have two players with first and second round talent contributing right now and that would free us up to meet other needs we have at this point.
instead we keep chasing our tail trying to draft a running back year after year after year while other postions get no attention and whither.
so ive come up with a conclusion that if you waste high draft picks and they dont pan out it screws us for years cus the folloing year you have to go back and waste a high draft pick on the same postion and the other postions lag behind and get no attention so they end up suffering.
so we need to make sure if we are going to draft a plyer high that they are good enough to start and not a reach and a project. trying to find these dimonds in the rough is costing us bigtime cus if they dont pan out we have to waste next years high draft pick on the same postion when we should have gotten a reciver.
