2008 NFL Draft Open Thread
The big day is finally here. I will be updating this thread with every pick as the draft goes along. It is already a good day because the Titans have locked up Michael Roos to a long term deal.
2:03- Miami Dolphins --Jake Long, OT, Michigan.
You have got to love the fact that Jets fans are already booing their newest division rival Jake Long.
2:11- St. Louis Rams --Chris Long, DE, Virginia
No real surprise there. The Rams struggled pretty mightily on defense last season.
2:18- Atlanta Falcons --Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College.
Smart move for the Falcons if they are convinced he is their franchise guy. The Titans should trade up to get Glenn Dorsey.
2:27- Oakland Raiders --Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas.
The biggest playmaker in the draft. He is troubled so it is fitting that he ends up in Oakland. The Titans need to make the move to get Dorsey.
2:34- Kansas City Chiefs --Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU.
Dorsey might be the best player in this draft. That is a great value for the Chiefs at 5, and they have another pick in the top 20. They said on the NFL Network that the Saints offered #10 this year, their 2nd this year and their 1st next year for that pick. I would have been tempted by that one.
2:44- New York Jets --Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State.
Gholston is a specimen. He will be a good fit in their 3-4 defense.
2:52-The Patriots have apparently traded with the Saints. The Saints take Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC.
The terms have not been announced, but knowing the Patriots, they probably got about 3 first round picks.
2:54- The Jags just moved from 26 to 8. That is a huge move, and it was probably very costly.
2:57- The Patriots got #10 this year and a 3rd round pick.
3:00- Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida to the Jaguars.
That was quite a move to make to get Harvey. It will be interesting to see what the Ravens got.
3:05- Keith Rivers has a Benglas hat on so I think it is safe to assume the Bengals are taking him.
3:06- The Jags gave up two 3rds and a 4th (plus the 1st round swap). Not as bad as I thought it would be.
3:12 Jerod Mayo, LB, Tennessee to the Patriots
I am a little shocked, but it is the Patriots so in 2 years he will be a Pro Bowler who also returns kicks.

I'm a fan of LenDale's, so...
That said, I think Norm Chow had too much pull in the organization. I trust 'Dinger's judgment a LOT more.

Rams here...
I think Dorsey will be a better player, however I think Long may be better for their system.
I say they'll take Howie's son.

It will be Long unless there is a trade

That was dumb.
And BTW, Mel, how can Chris Long be under-rated if he went second?

or go right for the chiefs' pick?
by August West on Apr 26, 2008 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Don't think that's going to happen.
We could trade future picks, etc., but I don't think we should trade the house for him.
