Alge Crumpler to Sign with the Tennessee Titans?

There have been conflicting reports tonight about the Tennessee Titans signing free agent tight end Alge Crumpler.  The NFL Network and ESPN News were reporting the deal was done, but the Sporting News says Crumpler's agent in denying the report (hat tip theologic).  Jim Wyatt says that Crumpler will become a Titan tomorrow afternoon barring any last minute complications.

Having networks like ESPN and NFL Network are a great thing because of all the information they put out there, but it is times like these that they frustrate me to no end.  They are both in such a hurry to have "broken the story" that they don't take the time to check their facts.  They never get taken to task about these little slip ups because they are who they are.  You notice the caution in Jim Wyatt's article linked above because he will get ripped to no end if he is wrong.  The guys at ESPN and the NFL Network don't have to worry about that stuff.

Bottom line is that it seems the Titans and Crumpler are close, but neither side is confiriming that a deal is done just yet.  I am sure we will learn a lot more about this as they day goes along tomorrow.

Nice grab Mikey!
Man I'm lovin' Reinfeldt: skip-out on all of these insane contracts and get the best TE on the market!  He's like a slighly ballsier Floyd.

Too many of the those huge signings in that first 72-hour window of FA tend to be huge busts anyways (*cough-Starks-cough-Anyone signed by the Browns-cough*).

Now if we can just bring back Bell, Odom, maybe da Freak and a few more at reasonable prices we'll be looking good going in to the draft... plus it would be nice to have some dough left for the June 2nd cuts to maybe get that last piece of the puzzle.

DEAR M. REINFELDT: PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD DRAFT EARL BENNETT!!!

DT
What we need now is a DT.  I'm still game for trading our 1st for a proven WR.

The real question I have is what to do with Pac-Man.  He's a playmaker.  If the PTB have decided that he's a clubhouse cancer and must go, do you think we could trade him?  Julius Peppers is unhappy with a year or two left on his contract... The Patriots will take other people's problem children and we could extract a 2nd and 5th maybe?

Pacman's never gonna play again--for anyone.
As ofr a DT, I think that's what they're gonna have to get in the draft.

yes and yes
Pac is not going to be reinstated next year, and I agree with DannoE - my bet would be he's never on the field again.  I'm dead certain he'll never be on the field again as a Titan.  With him still suspended, he's got zero trade value, so he's a complete non-factor right now.

DT worries me a bit too, and actually so does DE since it seems very likely we lose both Odom AND Laboy.

Crumpler signing seems like a good one.  Money isn't crazy, and even on a bad knee last year he caught almost as many touchdown passes as the entire Titans team did.

New Poll??
Hey Jimmy,

How about a new poll to see how everyone likes the Crumpler signing?

Character
I would love for us to sign Dunn. If not for his leadership and character alone.

He would be a real leader in the lockerroom.

altho he is good
i wouldn't sign him unless we can sign him real cheap
33 old running back is too old to overpay

Surprise
I would be really surprised if he asked for a lot of money.

I mean he is 33 after all. I am sure he knows that.

It'd mean we don't have to draft a RB high
But it's a pretty good draft at that position, and it looks like they may need to draft bookend DEs again.  I think the Tennessean writers got it right recently when they pointed out that arranging things so you have all your starters at a give position hit FA in the same year might be unwise...

Pay Odom
Just go ahead and pay the man. Better that, than the crapshoot that is the Draft.
