there is a interesting video with Chad Johnson in nfl.com

i'm quite slow on nfl news during the off season except news relating titans
so i'm not sure what his problem is in CIN (guessing he is holding out for better contract?)

but if we could trade for him that would be the WR we've been looking for quite sometime

we have the cap space, yes he has character issue but that's a risk i'm willing to take (at least he is not involved in various crimes like #32)

if he is on the market, what should we offer ?

And give him a boat load. He IS what we need, and we ARE what he needs. He IS an AMAZING talent, and I don't think that his "antics" are distrating. I've always been a huge OCHO fan, and I do hope that me take a shot at getting him.

and I'm having a hard time imagining he'd last a week under Fisher and 'Dinger (who would probably rip out Chad's thorax with bare teeth if Ocho took one swing at him).

My respect for him as a receiver +My complete annoyance with his act = total apathy at this point.

That being said, he's definitely the best receiver we have the possibility to pick-up this off-season.

I do not think his antics have outweighed his production or talent. Most of the time I find him entertaining. I will agree with Griffinator on these points, he works very hard at what he does, and he's great at it. Whether it be entertaining people or playing WR.

He made a mistake, but it wasn't like he makes the same mistake over and over like someone else we had. If anyone has ever played competitive football you'd know things can get out of hand in a locker room, especially when your losing. By no means should anyone swing on a coach, but I can see how emotionally someone could lose it and that could happen. He hasn't as far as I know been at a club while any of his boys were shooting at bouncers.

In my opinion more than anything he could use some steering and being put in line a bit. M.Lewis obviously doesn't have the ballz to do this with anyone, Fisher and Hiemerdinger do! I think there would be more of a level of respect from Johnson for them. Marvin Lewis is turning into a joke.

And that's exactly why I do not want any kind of showboat WR ever ever ever playing for the Titans and I don't care if we never win a superbowl. I'd rather like my team and not have them win then hate the team and see them win.

Well thankfully, the players and coaches don't think like you. The players are in it to win it, though in fairness, an intense competitive desire to win is typically a character trait of champions and warriors, and I suppose not really a pre-requisite for fan support.

Just curious though... You seem to judge Chad Johnson and would hate the whole team if he pulled out his sideline antics at game you were watching, correct? You don't want any kind of showboat receiver "ever, ever, ever"?

What exactly do you enjoy about your football team, anyways?

Because.. if you want to judge people on this team, you can find members of the coaching staff who have had publicly revealed extra-marital affairs with cheerleaders, assistant coaches who have been convicted of drunk driving, running backs who have been suspended for consuming banned substances, other ones who just like to party a bit too much and resist arrest and quarterbacks who get into fistfights with safeties during the pre-season. Are their "antics" ok so long as they are kept off the sideline on game day? Where do you draw the line? And who exactly does live up to your tough standards of appropriate behavior?

Your support as a fan is so very expendable compared to the impact a so-called "showboat" receiver with Chad's talent could make on this team.

When guys like DeAngelo Hall get offered 70 million dollars to play football, it is obvious that the market will bear a high cost for players that don't necessarily live up to Pop Warner values.

Though I don't expect Chad would really want to play for a Jeff Fisher offense, I sincerely hope Chad ends up in Nashville. When that happens, I'll keep an eye out for you on the Predators blog...

You misunderstand

I judge people based on their actions - that seems pretty fair to me. And I love watching pro football players play - not try to be their own personal media events.

When I say showboat, I don't mean a receiver that makes fantastic catches, obviously. I mean one that has his own personal antics to trot out every game, to attract attention to himself.

I do not want to watch a team with a player that pulls stunts like wearing a "Future Hall of Famer" jacket on the sidelines. I don't have to watch someone have an extramarital affair on my television screen, and that's their personal life anyway. But if they behave like an ass clown on the field every game, I don't want to watch them. That seems pretty simple, and pretty justifiable.

Now, if Chad came here and cut out the antics and just played football - I'd be happy to see him here.

Sorry, but I'm just very conservative when it comes to sporting events. I realize I'm old school in that regard and lots of people don't agree with me. I think it's important for people to behave like adults (including people on the sidelines), and show respect. A league or team that encourages or condones people behaving like clowns or showing disrespect to other players or coaches or fans at sporting events is not my cup of tea. As far as I'm concerned at that point it stops being a sport and it's become just an entertainment event; like a reality tv show - here tune in and watch this craaazy train wreck.

I think Jeff Fisher is pretty darned old school in this regard too, so I don't think it's something I have to worry about. I really believe if he did get behind bringing a receiver like Chad in, that there would have been a conversation about that kind of behavior up front. Moss certainly shaped up last year in NE (no mooning fans, etc.), so if he can do it, Chad probably could tone it down on the clown scale a bit and focus on the play.

Sorry - I can't stomach pro hockey ;-). My problem there is the more or less condoned fighting on the field. College basketball and Pro Football are about the only two that get me excited to watch.

In any case, at least we agree on one thing. Chad is a talent; and surely Fisher could get him under control to his liking if given the chance.

I am just not sure that the clowning aspect of the sport is disrespectful to anyone... I can't exactly identify a victim. Sport IS an entertainment event... A train wreck is Britney Spears destroying her life in the tabloids. End-zone celebrations don't exactly ruin the quality of the play on the field.

Who else here gets shivers down their spine when they remember the 'Ickey shuffle'?

and no. He has always been a clown. But I think he has started to push it more and more. And I think someone needs to put him in line, and I think he'd appreciate and respect that person for doing it. He'd still clown around, but with limits. Just my opinion. I think he's the type of player that needs leadership, not to be a leader.

Marvin Lewis is becoming a joke?

Or IS a joke. He hasn't done anything to prove that he should be a head coach - Career coaching record - 42-38 - post season record 0-1. He's a defensive coordinator who hasn't had any experience with offensive systems or offensive players. Of course he didn't know how tightly to hold the reins with Chad, he's never had to do that. This is a man that built the mean ass defense of the Ravens that won a Superbowl. He is a very fine defensive coordinator, but thats about it.

"assclown and a disease.". Why? The guy is funny like crazy, an amazing football player and a genuinely entertaining addition to the array of personalities we get to enjoy as football fans. What a polarizing figure. I think he's great.

If, in fact, #85 is available and can be had, the Titans better be doing everything they can to acquire him.

Not only would Chad Johnson be an incredible piece for the Titans to use to take that next step, but he would also elevate the game of all our other receivers.

It's ridiculous that Chad Johnson is viewed as a problem player. It's also equally ridiculous that being a "problem player" is seen as such a harsh label, given that Randy Moss just last year changed an entire career's worth of reputation in what seemed like the blink of an eye.

The same faulty logic surrounding Ocho Cinco is also the same problems people have in assessing the Pac Man Jones situation. What is bad today can be restored. That is why you pay a coaching staff and organizational support - to maximize the talent on the roster, and minimize distractions. You don't pay the GM to (attempt to) do that for you.

Not For Sale

Although the thought of Chad Johnson coming is intriguing. The fact of the matter is, Marvin Lewis has stated #85 is not for sale or trade. Ocho Cinco has also made it very clear that he may just set out the 2008 season and is sitting out the offseason practice. Which in-turn has made Mr. Houshmezedah step up on his I'm not happy platform and not practice as well. Needless to say Cincy is in trouble. But with #85 locked up for 4 more years and Housh only 1 I see them allowing Housh to go first.

I personally prefer to see Housh here. Don't get me wrong, #85 would be an upgrade, but do you really see us getting a loud mouth to our team after our #32 debocale. I'm sure at the combine Fisher and Reinfeldt was asking for rap sheets like you would a carfax report from a dealer. Anything more than a jaywalking you have no chance of getting drafted by us..

Houshmenzadeh would work better than Ocho Cinco.

I don't think badly of Chad Johnson, really I don't, even if he did have to be restrained from punching out his coach, which is the current story.

But I just don't think he fits this team, personality-wise. He's a "throw me the damn ball" receiver, and we just don't throw enough to keep him happy.

hmmmmm, you think the Bengals have tried that???

they have, and it has failed miserably, b/c football is a team sport and ochowhatever is not a team player.

as much as I love VY, C. Palmer is probably a better QB (right now) and if he cant get it done with the talent he has at WR, then I seriously doubt VY would get it done.

no doubt, ochofive is a big time talent, and i would love to transplant that kind of talent in gage or roydell (w/o the me-me-me antics of course), but of course i cant, and all the other crap would hurt this team.

besides guys, what's the point of even mentioning this - i think we all know that MR and the Fish are not going to bring this guy in - period. To say that this guy & this kind of move isn't their type, is a HUGE understatement!

at this point, i think we should bank on the following:
Crump being healthy and productive as he was in ATL, Scaife/Gage/Roydell continuing to improve, getting some more depth on the DL (via draft and FA), a good change of pace back (draft), getting a quality WR (in the draft), hope Lendale can stay outta trouble (and in shape), and that Dinger and VY can come together like a black-n-white cookie. if so, i think we got something...

The Bengals did not fail miserably because of Ocho

I think when you have great talent, yet you still fail, most would sooner point the finger at the coaching staff than "disruptive" players. Chris Henry(the WR) being banned is another thing, but Ocho is not a reason they fail. Right now he is disgruntled and the franchise is in shambles - but I think it reflects poorly on Marvin Lewis, and is not a result of over-zealous end-zone celebrations and other miscellaneous showmanship.

Now having said that, I agree that it will be a cold day in hell before Chad becomes VY's #1 target in Nashville.

PLEASE BRING CHAD JOHNSON TO THE TITANS! He would be amazing for the team. He DEFINITELY wants to leave cincy and he would be totally amazing!!! I honestly believe that the titans are trying to bring him in.

P.S: TJ wouldn't be that bad of a second option, but for gods sake bring in 85!
