Jeff Fisher: Vince Young Couldn't Play Today

Today was not a good day in Titans' country.  As mentioned here and here, Bo Scaife has a lacerated liver and will miss the rest of the season.  It seems the Titans might have known this for a while, and that is why they signed Jamie Petrowski.  It looks like we will have to count on Ben Troupe on offense.  Now would be a good time for him to prove he can play.

Also, Roydell Williams had to leave practice early today.  Jeff Fisher dd not know the extent of the ankle injury after practice.  That is a little alarming.  I guess we are going to see Mike Williams and Troupe on Sunday.  Does that really scare anyone else?

Now for Vince Young.  When asked if Vince could play if the game was today, Fisher replied "Probably not."  Young says he will be ready to go on Sunday however:

"We all have pain," Young said. "I really feel like I am a fast healer. ... It is getting better. Overall I feel like the progress is good right now."

Young did participate in 7 on 7 today.  That is a good sign.

Ben Hartsock?
Is he injured as well?  He's had some pretty good catches here in the last half of the season (although he seems to want to run at defenders when he catches the ball instead of avoiding them).  If he's OK I'd think he'd start ahead of Troupe.

Huh, Troupe is listed ahead of Hartsock on the depth chart, but for some reason I've been under the impression that Hartsock had been playing more here lately.

Yes, all these injuries very worrisome, especially if you add in the fact that this game will be incredibly physical, likely very chippy on the lines, and more players will get hurt.  Even if they manage pull off the upset in this game they are gonna be black and blue all over.

But - I will stop whining.  They're in the playoffs again!

It's all good.
The Titans will DEFINITELY miss Scaife, but it's supposed to rain 4-6" between now and game time in San Diego, so as long as LenDale White can go, that's all that really matters.

VY's gonna play.  I don't know if he'll play the whole game, but I guarantee he'll take the first snap.  And given that Norm Chow isn't going to make any adjustments on Offense, maybe the best scenario is VY playing 2.5 quarters, following by K Collins to close it up.  That, at least, would cause SD's Defense to have to work out of its half-time adjustments and maybe open things up late in the game.

I am not sure how You can guarantee that Young
I am not sure how you can guarantee that Young will start unless you are on the coaching staff.  However the probability of it happening is likely.  Collins does deserve a shot since he did secure the playoff berth for the Titans.  I know a lot of people don't like him because he is OLD, so is Brett Favre and he can get it done yet. I am 42 but I don't think I should be put out to pasture yet.

Did you see the game last year?
Kerry Collins was 6 of 19 for 57 yards and 2 interceptions.  Talk about a prolific passer..

No, I didn't catch that one. I did see the one
I did see the one where he was 10 for 13 and the Titans scored 3 Field goals and ensured a trip to the playoffs, the first appearance in a few years.  That was a good game for Collins.  You should have really sent him a Thank You card and a big bunch of roses for that effort.

And Vince was 10 of 14....
....and led the Titans to their only touchdown of the game.  Oh yeah, and that was against the Colts 1st team defense.

Dang it, I am getting sucked in to trying that logic stuff again.

No matter how much spin you put on it
No matter how much spin you put on it, you can't say that "you know who" had a great season.  Who is the one getting sucked in really?

Not saying he had a great season....
....just saying what Collins did, to in your words lead this team to the playoffs, wasn't that impressive.

Lost in all of this is the fact that...
...Fisher pulled some of the Titans' starters, too.  LenDale White, VY, etc. could have gone in but didn't because, let's face it, Fisher knew he was going to win the game.

Fisher has an abiding faith in his D.  They were playing good, and he had a lead.  That's ALWAYS going to be where he wants to be at the end of a game.
