Tennessee Titans 2008 Draft Needs

Warren from DraftTek.com contacted me last night about doing the team needs for the Titans.  I need to have this to him by the end of the day today so it can be included in tomorrow's simulation.  Here is how the Draft Tek need matrix works:

1- Highest need for the team.  Only 1 per team
2- High priority in need of starter will reach
3- High priority in need of starter will not reach
4- General need for depth will select if exceptional value in any round
5- General need for depth- Need at least 1 in round 4 if not fulfilled by then converts to a 2 in round 4
6- Operational only in rounds 5-7 second helping of multiple need position
9- Will not draft- absolutely no need

I can also add an "M" for any position that the Titans need more than 1 at the position.

Here is the way I see it breaking down:

OFFENSE

QB- 9- I don't see the Titans looking QB at all in this draft.

RB- 3- Need a guy to complement LenDale White but won't reach for him.

FB- 9- They will bring Ahmard Hall back.

WR- 1- It was a tough call between a 1 here and at defensive tackle, but the Titans need a starter here worse than at defensive tackle.

TE- 3- Again a position the Titans need a guy at but they aren't going to reach.

T- 4- Roos and Stewart are bookends, but the Titans need some depth behind them.

G- 3M- The Titans will likely loose both guards.  They have Amano, Loper and LeRoy Harris but none have played a full season.

C- 4- This number depends a lot on what happens with the guards.  If both are gone, Amano and Harris could possibly be your starting guards moving this to a 3.

DEFENSE

DE- 3- Could be a 2 if both Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy sign elsewhere.

DT- 2M- They have to take a DT in either the 1st or 2nd round.

OLB- 4- Solid with Keith Bulluck and David Thornton but a little shallow behind them.

MLB- 6- Ryan Fowler and Stephen Tulloch are both quality players.

CB- 4- Cortland Finnegan, Nick Harper, and possibly Pacman Jones are all solid options.  Could use a better backup than Reynaldo Hill.

SS- 6- Chris Hope should be back.  Calvin Lowry was servicable filling in for him.

FS- 6- Michael Griffin is a stud.  If he gets injured Lowry or Vincent Fuller could step in and be OK.

SPECIAL TEAMS

P/K- 9- Might need to find Craig Hentrich's replacement soon but won't do it in this draft.  Rob Bironas is the man.

Granted, all of this will change after the free agent period.

Now it is your turn.  Give me your thoughts on what I have and your numbers at each position.  I will take a look at it before I send my list to Warren.

I don't
get why you say we need a compliment for Lendale. But list him as a 3-which is need for a starter, but won't reach.

Offense

QB-10-LoL I agree with your assesment

HB-4- I think we only need a complimentary HB, I still think Chris Henry might be that guy.

FB-9- Hall is good

WR-1M- I agree tough call, but I'd go WR also.

TE-3- Scaife is an adequate starter. But we could use a better 1.

OT-4- I agree

LG-3- I agree

C-4- Agree

Defense

DE-3- agree

DT-2- agree

OLB-4- agree

MLB-6- agree

CB- 6- If Pac comes back. I think Hill is a descent 4th CB

SS-9- Hope is very good. And we already have depth

FS-9- Same as SS

K/P-9- Agree

The problem is....
....I need something between starter and quality depth.  What about RB at 3.5 for complimentary player?

A complimentary
HB to me is quality depth. And a 4- can be selected in any round if exeptional value.

You can get
away with a 3.5? Works for me.

I just made that up....
....I think you are probably right about changing that to a 4.

I wouldn't
say that!  I do think we need a better WR.  But if we pick up that #1 guy then I also think players like R. Williams and Jones/Gage will flurish in the 2nd and 3rd spots

MLB are no way near quality...
We need a playmaker at this position in my opinion...

We have 2
very good OLB. You cannot have a playmaker at every position. The 2 MLBs we have are solid, at the least. And Tulloch with more experience can be a very good player.

i
we need a reciver,  then we need a offensive linemen depending on if they keep  odem and laboy signed if they dont go there,  mawahe is getting old.  bell might not be back and somebody else may not be back on the offesive line, we need to protect our golden boy.   then we need another reciver then a  defensive linemen.  starks is gone iam ok with brown sticking around.  then a tight end cus troupe cant block.  i caught the nfl replay of the playoff game and the one play where white got hit in the backfiled trouope totally missed that block i mean by a mile and his guy gets lendale in the back field for a loss of 4.  he did make some catches during that game finally but after this long come on guy if you  a supper star i think you whould have gone nucular by now.
but put it in prespective  our offensive wasnt good this year so that would  be where the major drafts should be going.   last in touchdown passes i say a reciver first and formost.  then a tightend then a offensive linemen. then a nother reciver then a defensive line guy.  then a reciver.   i mean look at the colts.  they have whyne who is great. harrision also.  gonzalaz  and the other guy at tightend. i mean they are all good.  we need some special people to put thier hands on ball and it should be skill postions first and formost.
i mean we tried to upgrade the reciver postion with givins but shit where has he been in rehab?.   i mean we tried now its time to try again at reciver maybe give it a few shots at draft time and maybe we will find a gem. then a tightend.  heres my order recevier, tight end, recevier that should be our first 3 picks after that who knows

Jimmy, I agree with your list,
but I think the Titans will put DT ahead of WR based on their drafting history.

You know what I DON'T want to see?  I don't want to see another full platoon of WRs in the later rounds.  Let's get ONE and make it work with him.

I wouldn't rate
WR as such a high priority.  because with our GM's connection to Seattle I think we end up with D.J. Hackett

by white02slpss on Jan 12, 2008 10:18 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I would be
happy with getting Hackett. But I hope we resign Gage or get Berrian also. In that case,  I would got DT 1st rd. WR 2nd rd.

He
is the exact type of player the titans have Targeted the last few years.  Only 26 years old.  Not a lot of playing time or stat's, but a ton of upside

Hackett
How is Hackett's durability tho? Isn't he injured right now? I seem to recall him being injured earlier too.
