Power Rankings Time

It is time to take a look at where the so-called experts think the Titans rank against the other teams of the NFL.

ESPN.com:

15. Titans
Head coach Jeff Fisher must be feeling pretty good. He's set to have his contract extended through 2011 ... and, barring an unexpected development, he'll have Vince Young as his quarterback during that time.

FOXSports.com:

13. Titans
The Titans played valiantly against the Colts on Sunday, coming up just short in a tough 22-20 loss. The Tennessee rushing game continued right where it left off in Week 1, gashing the Colts defense for 141 yards. So much for missing Travis Henry. In two weeks, the Titans have put up 423 total yards on the ground. Vince Young worked miracles in an upset of the Colts in December last season. He had his chances Sunday but was bottled up and stopped on a 4th-and-4 attempt in a final minute drive. The Titans have looked solid thus far, and they take on the struggling Saints in New Orleans next weekend.

FootballLocks.com

14. Titans
There are plenty of things to be optimistic about when playing to within 2 points of the champs. In fact, it might even account for a rise in the rankings.

NFLReport.com:

14. Titans
Tennessee played well but couldn't produce enough offense to keep up with Manning and the Colts in their week two loss. Vince Young meets Reggie Bush next Monday night.

CBSSportsline:

19. Titans
They played a tough game against the Colts, but to be a playoff team they have to win those types of games. At some point, they need to get more from their passing game.

NewsDay.com

23. Titans
Vince Young had the ball in his hands with the game on the line, but this time, the Colts defense came up big.

Covers.com

8. Titans
Betting against Vince Young is becoming a great way to end up at the soup kitchen.
That is an average of just over 15th which is down a little from last week's number that was just under 15th. The Titans are starting to turn some heads nationally. Monday Night Football is a huge stage. If the Titans play well and win on Monday, they will get a lot more national attention.

can't wait
for Dr. Z's rankings on SI to come out this afternoon...

and if everybody doesn't already, go to ESPN and read TMQ....nothing really titans related...but I just think that column is a must read for NFL fans...

How?
How can a team lose to the defending champions (theoretically the best team in the league) by only 2 points and drop some spots??? Since it was such a close game (and very winnable in the end) I would expect the Titans to go up, not down!

Anyway, lets smash the Saints in New Orleans and head to our bye weekend in the TOP 10!!!

A Few Reasons....
I think there's a few reasons for this:
  1. We rarely get national respect anyway. I think they're just used to ignoring our wins... let alone our close loses.
  2. I think people are accustomed to us playing the Colts tough. We did it last year as an 8-8 team.
  3.  It's only the 2nd game of the season against Divsional foes we are familiar with. After we beat the Saints Monday, people will take a more serious look.

Good point!
Actually, good points!
Lets hope we can beat Saints on a national television game, and things should change!
GO TITANS!

Hope?
What do you mean by "hope"?  Chris Hope?  I hope that the Saints pack a lunch.

I've got the Titans at #11
I've been working on a power rankings system using a  mathematical formula to balance results vs performance vs "effect" (on other teams)...and this week the Titans dropped just a bit to #11.

Here's my top 10:

# New England Patriots
# Indianapolis Colts
# Pittsburgh Steelers
# Houston Texans
# Dallas Cowboys
# Detroit Lions
# San Francisco 49ers
# Denver Broncos
# Green Bay Packers
# Washington Redskins

Power Rankings
This is a true weekly rankings. I can see why all of those teams are up there but I also see them dropping way down as the season progresses. Texans, Packers, Redskins, Lions I don't believe should be in the top 10... on anybody's ranking system. It's just too early for unproven teams to tell.

I think the Titans are just fine at 13-15. Monday Night, however... we will see a big increase or decrease in rankings.

OH YEAH
And who will have bigger numbers? Will Reggie return to form this week? or will LenDale keep on truckin.

No offense....
Do you really have Houston as your #4 team?  That's funny.  They're improved, but really?  I think that's funny.

zack's week 2 power rankings
Can we make the AFC Championship game the Super Bowl?

^1. Pats
2. Colts

Best of the Rest:

3. Pitt

(note, I don't think any team deserves to be ranked #4)

Underachievers so far, but I'll give them a few more weeks:

  1. SD
  2. Baltimore
  3. Chicago
Watch out for these teams:
  1. Dallas
  2. Denver
  3. Tennessee
The middle of the pack:
  1. Green Bay
  2. Washington
  3. San Francisco
  4. Houston
  5. Philly
  6. NY Giants
  7. Arizona
  8. Seattle
  9. Jacksonville
  10. Carolina
  11. Detroit
  12. St Louis
  13. Tampa Bay
  14. Buffalo
  15. NY Jets
  16. New Orleans
  17. Minnesota
  18. Oakland
  19. Miami
  20. Atlanta
I don't know if Sunday's game was good or bad for the state of NFL football, but I'm leaning towards bad:

30 (tie). Cincy
30 (tie). Cleveland

Pathetic

32. Kansas City

"^Caught Cheating"
Brilliant.

I think I would put Dallas up with Baltimore, etc.

Their defense is pretty stout.

Go Titans!

stole it
from a NY paper...the NY post I think...They are now putting an asterisk with "Caught Cheating" in the boxscores...hahaha

if everybody hasn't read TMQ's take (on espn.com) about the pats situation, you should...good take...

dallas
i'm not sold on their D yet...against the lowly giants, their pass defense was pathetic...i haven't seen wade wilson's 3-4 brilliance work for Dallas yet this season....more should be known in the next few weeks...

Just because you surprised the Jags,
which happens alot on opening day, is the only reason you aren't in the bottom 10 on any honest power poll. Give it two more games, you'll see.

^About to claim their fourth super bowl win.

I am not sure
which is more ridiculous, the fact that you are defending the cheater, or the fact that you are actually posting on this website trying to change our mind.

Do you think your third grade education nonsense you type is going to convince us to respect Belicheat?  Did you ever stop and think it makes you look worse?

Didn't think so.

Go Titans!
