Alex Brown Wants to be Traded

I hadn't heard this until this morning, but apparently Alex Brown wants out of Chicago.  If I were Mike Reinfeldt, I would be on the phone every minute of every day until I got a deal done.  They said on the radio this morning it would probably only take a 4th round pick.  THAT IS A NO BRAINER.

I know we have had a TON of debate here about the DE position.  I thought of something this morning though that we haven't really talked about.  What happens if KVB gets hurt?  I know there are people who think that the two-headed monster of the LaBoy/Odom can hold down a D line opposite KVB, but what if KVB goes down.  A D line that featured Odom and LaBoy as the starting ends would not be good.

The Titans have a ton of money under the cap.  I don't know how much Brown would cost, but I don't think his contract is ridiculous.  This is something that really needs to be pursued.

Thoughts....

What is their number?
I will call right now!  Maybe we should all call.

Can't miss on this one.  I'm curious on ZMann's take?

Go Titans!

Do we have the authority
to offer draft picks?  If the answer is yes, I am all over it.

my take
right now, I can't think of a single negative to dealing for Brown...maybe there are some, but as Jimmy said, this sure seems like a no brainer to me...

KVB
getting hurt wouldn't be a good thing.  and if you stop and think about it his past (other than the last two years) have been filled with injuries.

I'm not sold on LaBoy. I love Odom's motor and that is well documented on this site!

AT the same time.  If we could get Tom Brady to back up Vince young at a decent price then I say go for it.

In other words you can't have too many outstanding players at one position.

If Alex Brown could be had for a 4th round pick then I'm all for it.  It makes you that much better.  Someone would have to suffer. Rather it be Odom or LaBoy.

Now with that said I think Odom is going to be really good. He is good enough NOT to have to draft a DE on the first day of the draft.  But if a player of Browns talent could be had. Then you go for it!!!

Heck I'd be even willing to trade Odom, 2nd & 4th round picks for both Brown and Briggs.  Then we convert either Briggs, Bulluck or Thorton to MLB.

Start KVB, Albert, Tony and Alex.  backed by Bulluck, Briggs and Thorton.  Drop Scott down for run support.  Let Harper, Griffin and Hope cover.

The difference
between your Young/Brady thing and DE is two fold.
  1.  There are 2 DEs on the field on every defensive play.  You obviously need more players.
  2.  DEs rotate in and out a lot during a game while the QB plays every offensive snap.  It has been well documented that LaBoy is only good if his snap number is under 25.  Adding Brown to the mix would make this a better possibility.
As for the trade for Briggs and Brown, that would be sweet but I don't think that is realistic.

What
I mean with the Brady comment is that we don't need a QB. But if we had the chance to get him why not.

Same thing with Alex Brown.  DE isn't (in my mind) an area of great need.  But if you have a chance to upgrade (which alex Brown is) then you do it.

We would be pretty deep at DE if we added Brown.

Yep, whites2oslepps
i see your logic.. and injuries is not my deal if they are prone to that like Lendale (worried about that w/hamstring being hired) then no-go on ABrown; but his resume is good - but to get back on topic:Alex Brown not K. Johnson -

Let's face it: the Bears are falling apart and they were in the SuperBowl, hello 2007 and so were The Seahawks recently, hehe and who was their GM when they did that? Guess who?!

But lack of faith in Grossman, lack of synergy also? here you go, you decide..

"End game" from nfl.com/players

Defensive right end stands as perhaps the deepest position on the depth chart. But who starts? Alex Brown is a two-time Pro Bowl alternate; Mark Anderson was runner-up as the 2006 defensive rookie of the year. The problem is, from Brown's perspective at least, is there are only so many snaps to go around.

greed by Brown? the injuries and age in a re-build don't quite fit..

ornery but honest ...

That
also brings to mind that age old argument!

Does having Urlacker, Briggs, Tank Johnson and so forth make Alex Brown that good?

Would Emmitt Smith have had the career he had if he was drafted by the Lion's?  where would Barry Sanders be running behind Dallas line?

Would Alex Brown be another LaBoy in our system?

Brown for Brown
Who is running behind Benson?  I say we offer up our Brown for theirs, and a 6th round pick - Two birds, one stone -

Brown
is a FA.  The Bears could just sign him.

wolfe
the bears drafted garrett wolfe, the explosive little RB from N.Illinois in the 3rd round...in fact, he was the first drafted rookie to sign a contract...my guess is a 3rd round pick will be pegged as the backup RB...

Wong
is leaving the Texans. He might be another one to look for.

That is interesting
that he said he wasn't sure if it would fit but then said:
"One thing I do know about Keyshawn, he's absolutely an incredible athlete and a wonderful receiver. The guy works harder than most guys in this league," Mawae said. "He plays hard and he practices hard. That's the kind of guy you need in this locker room."

Misprint?
You're right, that made no sense.

Made sense to me
It was his thinly veiled way of saying he is a loser and he quits on his team and whines a lot.

These guys are not going to come right out and say they don't want to play with someone to the press. (Unless that someone is Joey Porter.) You have to read between the lines.

Go Titans!

Me-shawn Johnson
Sure he's an 11 year vet with 815 career catches, but do we really want to sign him to a multi-year deal?  Will he help the young receivers?  Will he help or hurt the org?

Here is a recent quote, I'm not in rental mode. You're not going to rent me for six months because someone with my career warrants more than that," Johnson said Thursday. "I just laugh when I read that stuff. All those editors should save their ink for another day. I keep seeing people say that I'm going to sit around and wait for a receiver to get hurt in training camp.  "I don't need to do that. I'm not playing for $750,000, $850,000, $1 million or $2.5 million. You can write that down."

I don't want him - This would be his 5th team in the NFL, there should be a limit....

Me-Shawn will have his anchor job soon enough.

I have a question for everyone
Did Johnson whine last year?  Doesn't seem like he did

He seems much more mature to me these days. After getting cut now twice.  at 35 he might be more humble. The Keyshawn in the past would have been all over the media with comments.  but he's not.  Staying very quiet.

by white02slpss on May 17, 2007 10:14 PM CDT reply actions

There is just something to be said
for a receiver getting cut by team after team.

This guy is Kerry Collins at receiver.  He's going to teach these rookies bad habits.

Go Titans!

Kerry
Colins didn't have 70 catches on a team that also features Steve Smith

by white02slpss on May 19, 2007 2:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Well then
why did they cut him?  And why did the Jets get rid of him? Or Tampa Bay? Or Dallas?  I just don't think we are in a position to waste money on someone who has not changed in 11 years in the league, and shows no sign of changing now.
Go Titans!

Back to topic
"Don't bet the house, at least not yet, that Brown will be wearing a new uniform in 2007, writes Len Pasquarelli. Even though the Bears feel they now have two excellent young weakside pass rushers in second-year end Mark Anderson (12 sacks in 2006) and rookie second-rounder Dan Bazuin of Central Michigan (35 career sacks in college), they aren't just going to surrender Brown in a giveaway deal.

And even though he is curious about his market value, Brown isn't inclined to just go anywhere. A solid two-way defender, the former University of Florida star has never really developed into the weakside pass rusher many felt he would be at the NFL level, so it's debatable what he might be worth to another team. To agree to a trade, he would likely want a new contract. Unless a lot of circumstances fall into place, chances are Brown will still be with the defending NFC champions when the season starts."

That was from ESPN... I like the Bears and to be frankly honest I don't think Alex Brown is THAT good.
