Chargers 23 Titans 17

That one is going to come back to haunt the Titans.  You cannot afford to be up by 14 at home and let it slip away.  The funny thing is, the whole time I was sitting there, I never thought the Titans were going to lose.  I was just waiting for the defense to step up and make a play like they had all day long.

How many times does Rob Bironas miss a 39 yard field goal?  I am not sure what happened there, but it looked like he started to approach the ball before it was snapped.  He had to stop, and that threw off his rhythm just enough to make him miss.  If he hits that the Titans are sitting at 8-5 right now, but that is not what lost the game.

There is going to be a lot of talk about the Chambers 4th down reception.  I have no idea if he caught it or not, but there is no way they could overturn it based on the replays they showed in the stadium.  I don't understand how they could not have another angle.  Again, that is not what lost the game.  The Chargers made the plays when they had to, and the Titans just weren't able too.  Now the Titans face 3 must win games with a lot of scoreboard watching.  More on this game tomorrow.

you are right on with everything you said...
A month from now this game will be the reason why the Titans are home watching and someone else is playing.  Yes, the Titans still have a shot at the playoffs...but it's unlikely.  This one stings more than any other.  This was a statement game, and I don't like the statement we made.

O.K.
Well the more time I have here by myself, the more upset I'm getting. I feel like we've let another significant shot at the playoffs slip away. I guess I'm coming down real hard from thinking I was watching a victory and being very exited when it was 17-3.

Sign Albert Hayensworth like yesterday.

the Browns
deserve their shot at the playoffs. this does not look like the Titans year. norm chow and his offense have really underperformed all year long. there are games where they fall behind and vince young looks very good throwing the ball. it looks like when he is forced to only throw on 3rd down it throws off his rhythm.

yup
couldn't believe there was no other angle on that catch, and also was going crazy waiting for an announcer to say something about why there was no other angle.  Argh!

Ah well, just not the Titans year this time.  Hopefully they will finish up with a winning record, but I think their shot at playoffs is about 1 in 20 at this point.

A disappointing loss - I was expecting the Titans to drop the game before it all started, and they really surprised me through 3 quarters there... then to slip away.... again, argh!

they draft well and have a good offseason so we can come out swinging next year.

Music City Chokers
Titans gag again!!
Looks like it's "wait till next year"
time again, right fans?
Maybe by then VY will discover he's
not playing against Rice or SMU.
These are sophisticated NFL defenses,
and Vince no longer looks like a man against
boys.
He can get pumped up for Houston next
year, and maybe beat them twice again. Maybe
not though because Houston is 6 and 7 now, with
the most injuries of any team in the league.
Certainly improving, and Mario Williams has
9.5 sacks already. He's starting to get it,
but is Vince?? You hillbilly Titans fans
better hope so.
And Indy is going to be hacked off next
year and want to tear up the league and
get their title back. And the Jags have
found themselves a quarterback, and they
are certainly not getting any worse.
Looks like the downhill slide has begun
for Gag City.

Everybody repeat after me.....
Titans Suck!  Titans Suck!  Titans Suck!

punkman
well iam going to have to say it,  if pac man was with us on this one i think we would have won.  somebody with his talent is going to make some kind of play.   in such a close game as this i think he would have made the difference.

the chargers punter
should get credit for pinning us within our own 5 yard line twice on crucial moments in the game.

Tough loss.
I was super-excited the whole game, until overtime.  When they downed the ball on the 1 yard line for the second time, you knew it was bad.  VY's right, the Chargers have a great team.  It showed a lot of courage for them to fight back.  But that loss made me sick for the rest of the night.

I don't know if the Titans can be a playoff team this year, but they have a pretty good team, certainly better than the Browns, and they may well go 10-6.  It has been a better season, and after the 3-game skid, I think I can live with it.  Certainly they weren't going to win it all this year.  But they may well have succeeded in positioning themselves for next year, and really, what more could you have asked for at the beginning of the season.

I'm with Vince.  Let's move on and fight on next week.

I agree
It always hurts to lose, and we certainly COULD have made the playoffs this year. But, after the offseason we had, who thought we would do this well? We didn't do as well as we could have this season, but we have laid the foundation for a really, really bright future.

Positive things to think about:

  1. After this season, the Titans will have the more cap room than any other team in the league.
  2. Pacman will be back next season. Finnegan & PAC... nuff said.
  3. Vince will be in his 3rd year.
  4. David Givens (who I liked when we signed him) might actually get on the field.
That's just off the top of my head. Our GM will have a lot of cap room to work with, and he hasn't done a bad job so far (although I wonder about signing Herndon is he can't beat out Hill for a roster spot). I am excited about this team.
