Could Norm Chow Still Go to UCLA?

The Tennessean is reporting this morning that UCLA's recently hired coach, Rick Neuheisel, is going to contact Titans' offensive coordinator Norm Chow about taking the same job at UCLA.

I really hope he takes.  It appears that Norm just isn't cut out to be an offensive coordinator in the NFL.  He can't seem to figure out how to use Vince Young.  You can say what you want about Vince's ability, but it has been obvious this year that the Titans are not running an offense that suits his style of play.  Plus, you just don't tell the media that your quarterback pouts.  I am not trying to say Vince doesn't pout, I don't know if he does or not, but that stuff needs to be handled in house.  You don't hear Vince talking about how Norm isn't using him to the fullest of his abilities.

Chow
I do agree that the O.C. should not be saying things like that whether they are true or not. Perhaps he has had enough of the attitude though.  We all have a breaking point.  It does not suprise me about Young's reaction, but to keep things flowing smoothly a OC should not be doing that.  It is just another opportunity to create havoc for a team.  Chow probably has just as big of ego as Young and the two don't mix well.

what attitude?
it is embarassing to be a titan's fan right now. the putrid and offensive play calling is just depressing. and my god, the worst return game in the NFL. thank goodness for defense and bironas.

norm chow? what to say...he has shown his true colors: an immature, egomaniacal jackass.

vince has NEVER been one to pout and complain. jesus, he has the worst set of WRs in league history, an average running game, an average/above average line and an OC who publicly complained about the Titan's drafting him. not to mention a nagging injury that he also NEVER complains about. and then he gets thrown under the bus by this same OC who handcuffs him? can't believe any of you are buying chow's snake oil.

i have been and remain disgusted with blame being heaped on vince young by both the nashville and national media. unbelievable.

I wasn't gonna bring it up
but you obviously don't attend any games at LP field.

"VY Criticism Alert"

And I AM A VY fan, but, here it goes

Anyone that has been to LP field will have noticed, if they watched, that when something does not go Vince's way, he will procede to first-get up and act like he is going after the player that just knocked the crap out of him (Bob Sanders), or he will throw the ball at someone (you all saw it on TV-last year?) then he will procede to the sideline where he will slam his helmet down to the turf (Jets game), then he will ignore and walk away from his head coach when he is trying to coach and instruct him.  Worse, he will leave the field early while the clock is winding down at the end of the game (Jets game).

I don't really think it is that big of a deal--it is emotion, and emotion is a great thing on the field.  But this is the NFL (not intramurals, brother!) where VY is not going to always be the best athlete or player on the field, and he is not always going to dominate.  While I would feel better if VY would run over to the sideline after something goes wrong and talk to the coaches and look at the pictures and learn something so it doesn't happen again, I do like that he is not the always-stoic never shows emotion type.  But you have got to be a team player.  It is not always about you.  Don't pout, don't throw a fit.  Get ready to get back in there and win some football.

But don't get excited Joy Kat!

This is Vince Young's team.  He is the future of this franchise and he will come around and be a stud just like Steve McNair did. I have no worries.

But Norm needs to keep his fat mouth shut.  I can't believe Coach has not addressed that little comment.  I wonder if he even knows about it.

But, Willyb, the criticism of VY is not being "made up."  He needs to grow up a little, but it will come.  And he's gonna be just fine.

Go Titans!

OK, wow I did get excited
I really feel like you are turning the corner here Gramsey.   Maybe just maybe others will see what I see.    So what does it all mean?  It means he has not reached a level of maturity yet necessary to play here, particularly when it comes to the sideline instructions.   It is the attitude where he said "nobody can tell me nothing"  like he said on 60 minutes. This is where I see problems lie ahead with whoever is coaching him when things don't go as planned.  Do you honestly think it will matter who he has to come to the sideline to get coached by if the play doesn't go the way he wants. He will be mad, yes sometimes showing emotion can be good, but he overflows with it and that is destructive.   The future will tell us if he will grow up or if it will be the status quo.

Young does have a King size ego
IF you don't beleive it is true why would he tell LaDanian Tomlinsom "I'm coming after you for that MVP award" earlier this year.   Or why does he feel the Heisman Trophy should have been his or why did he say I will be in the NFL Hall of Fame someday.   That is a huge attitude.  Whether he accomplishes the MVP award or makes it to NFL HOF is doubtful.    Young has NOT been handcuffed either.  He has stated that he was "given plenty of rope" this year to do what he needs to.  Perhaps Chow's philosphy and Young's skills don't match well.  Evidently their personalities clash.  I do not know for certain that is true but based on the events of last night, it could very well be.  Yes, Young does complain, he complained mightily that Fisher left without him when Young was late for the flight.  He learned his lesson from that though.
The guy who I admire most lately is LeBron James.   He was asked who he thought was the best player in the NFL, he replied "Kobe Bryant"
How refreshing it was to hear from a man who most would regard as the best player in the NBA saying that someone else is.   If LeBron said himself, who could argue, but he didn't and I respect that.
Young did not say that when he was interviewed by 60 minutes.  He was asked if he felt he was better than Reggie Bush, he said I always feel like I am better.
Confidence is one thing, huge ego is another and that ego needs to be down sized for him to be a real TEAM guy.

I cannot lie! I'm tired of this already. The truth is, I don't understand why your not on your blog celebrating your perfect season. What is so enticing for you here? I don't want to hear your opinion about anything having to do with our team. Your Pats blog is there for you to give your opinions. We are here to have dialogue with fellow fans. This post is just another example of you hating on Vince. "It doesn't suprise you, Vince's reaction". Of course not, your a hater. You love to just open up your bottle of haterade with Vince's picture on it and take a few sips every time you get a chance. I could see your being here if you wanted to see what we're talking about just out of curiosity. But your just here out of pure hate. I don't know, maybe ur in the klan or something.  Maybe your a disgruntled USC fan. 1 thing I do know is that we are going to the playoffs, and we should be enjoying our blog with fellow fans. Instead, we have to waist our time dealing with haters till our communist leader gives you the powder blue boot again.

Heh.

Seriously, that guy's play calling is just frickin' miserable.  We have to pound the rock in the first quarter--when every D in the NFL is crowding the line of scrimage vs. the Titans--and suddenly come out throwing in the 4th--after LenDale has worn down the opposing Defense.  I mean HELLO?  What up with that?

You just say the same things over and over to try and stir up trouble. You have actually made a few contributive posts on here since switching your user name. If all of your posts would be like that, I would have no problem keeping you around. DannoE said it earlier. People come here to either escape some outside problems for a few minutes or because they just enjoy discussing the Titans.

If everyone here would be willing to refrain from attacking you, then would you be willing to hold back from posting things you KNOW will cause problems? You obviously want to be a part of this website, and Jimmy's given you a second chance. I'm willing to as well. So are you?

Y'know there are probably gonna be...
...some good Offensive Coordinators out there this year, too.  You might see: Cam Cameron, Brian Billick, Jim Fassel, even Mike Martz.  I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

Seriously, think about a Titans team with Mike Martz as the offensive coordinator.  Martz has an amazing offensive mind, he just needs someone to force him to balance his air attack game with a strong running game.  Fisher would make that happen.  And Martz is a guy who YOU KNOW could get everything out of VY.  He's no NFL virgin.  The guy is smart.  And if he could deal with Kurt Warner's ego, I'm sure VY would be... well, similar anyway.  Martz just needs to be forced to balance his attack, and Fisher would do that for him.

jags game
go back to the season opener against the jags. the play calling was awesome in that game. he kept the jags on their heels the entire game. i would say that's the only really well-called game of the year. now look at the rest of the season. in almost every game, we start out with a very strong opening drive and follow with stagnant offense the rest of the game. i don't understand why this happens, but it's become a pattern. that's why i no longer get very optimistic after a strong opening drive.

Yeah. What he said.
That's why the first drive starts strong.  After that... the Titans don't adjust offensively.

And how can you call a pass on 3rd-and-4 in the 4th QTR with LenDale White averaging 4-5 yards in a game where the opposing D is gassed?  That makes NO SENSE!  And that call damn near cost the team a trip to the playoffs.

Your Titan Fan Joy Kat? Meaning that is your favorite team.

by Big Bad Bulluck on Dec 31, 2007 3:28 PM CST up reply actions

Joy Kat
The Titans are by no means his favorite team.  He just has such a "compassion for good football that he must provide his opinion on why Vince should not be starting."  Joy Kat is something else, when he first came to this site he was a Colts fan.  Now he is a Colts/Titans/Pats fan.  He/She will never change and Joy Kat really is just a nuisance.  His points are just to stir up contreversy.

Joy Kat, if you're reading this, we as Titans fans are happy we made the playoffs.  Vince Young's record as a starting QB is 17-11, while Collins as a Titan is 1-4. End of argument.  Vince is young, Collins is old.  No matter what you say or do Collins will never be the starting QB on this team except for injury. I am done talking to you and this will be the last post of yours I respond to.

Why do you feel it's necessary to annoy everyone on this site?  Oh, and please don't answer that question.

Yes, Do I like their Coach Dungy  very much.   You are as narrow minded and blind as ever.  You cannot see the advantages of a veteran quarterback even when he was responsible for getting the Titans to the playoffs. Why don't you get it?   I have said over and over how great the defense is.  I have praised the other members many times over.  All you Joy Kat haters hear is my distaste for Young and that is it.  GO back and look.  IT is all there.   You all want to hate on Chow or Fisher or whoever the flavor of the week is but IT NEVER comes to roost on Young.  You protect him like he is a fragile egg not to be touched.   He clearly has not got it done all season long and when someone points that out you jump all over them.  It is always someone else's fault.  Yet I don't hate Chow or any of the coaches.  I think they are all quite capable.  They have proved that in the past and this year.  SO what gives??  YOu are allowed to hate on anyone and I cannot hate Young.  That is hypocritical.
