Carolina Panthers 7 Tennessee Titans 20

This can serve as the open thread for the New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts game as well.  I cannot cheer for either of these teams, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Patriots because the Titans are still in the division hunt with the Colts.

As for the Titans game, the defense was dominant once again.  It still blows my mind that they are this good.  It is awesome to watch them play every week.  The Titans are going to win a lot of games because of them.

Vince played better today, but still not as good as he needs to play.  I am still not worried about him.  LenDale White just wears defenses down.  They have no desire to tackle him in the 4th quarter.  Enjoy the win and the Patriots vs. Colts.  Full recap tomorrow.

I hate the Patriots
I guess I want the Colts to lose for the good of the Titans, but I hate the Patriots.

how is that going to work?
say the titans and the colts both run the table for the rest of the year and we beat the colts in the last game. who wins the afc south? i was just wondering about that.

Then there would be some tiebreaker...
I'm not sure which.  I THINK it would be best division record, and if we both win out and we win the last game, then we would have the same divisional record, so I don't know.

But, IF we want to win the division, the colts are definitely going to lose, cause we're not winning out.

The next tiebreaker is AFC record
which the Titans would win because one of their loses was to a NFC team (Buccaneers).

I think..
It's actually record v common opponents. So we would lose since they beat Tampa. I could be wrong.

Looks like
the Colts are holding their own better than most people thought.  I had a feeling they were going to show up today.  I hate them.

My thoughts
Jimmy is to Peyton Manning as Tim McCarver is to Derek Jeter.

You are right about that
I cannot stand the guy, VY arrogance is repulsive.  It always all about him, why doesnt he have some humbleness or humility? Tom Brady in the win yesterday wasnt talking about himself. He was talking about January and that yesterdays game didnt mean much.  He has 30 more td passes than Vince Young.  30 MORE !!!!

Adrian Petersen wasnt bragging how great he is even after setting a terriffic record yesterday.
Not to beat a dead horse but Collins would have thrown for a couple of TD yesterday.
Fisher tipped his hand yesterday and showed how afraid he is to let Vince throw the ball long.  No confidence in him, has no reason to.

Will you
please stop making this all about Vince Young.  We have other players on the Team too!

We have an awesome defense which is only going to get better.  We have a young RB who needs to touch the ball way more than 5 times a game.

So stop making this about Vince Young Already!

We all know he has to improve!  so get over it already and let's talk about how We are going to smack the Jag's around next week.

what?
what did vy say that you're so repulsed by? how is he supposed to respond to questions about his own performance?

May have sealed it.

I love Tony Dungy
But it feels good to be one game out of 1st. Our last game of the year against the Colts may be for the Divison.

For Division ties...
  1. Head-to-head
  2. Best PCT in games within division
  3. Best PCT in common games

I now think...
The Titans would have a chance against the Pats.  Our D-Line would have owned theirs in that game.  But that deep pass to Randy Moss is tough to defend.

BTW:

VY - 2 INTs
Tom Brady - 2 INTs
Manning - 2 INTs

I'm telling you, the problem the Titans have is that their receivers aren't adjusting to the long balls very well.

C mon Danno
Cmon Danno  You are comparing Youngs interceptions to Manning and Brady??  Brady and Manning both threw the ball a lot more times yesterday than Young. Plus the int were tips, not obvious bad passes.
Vince Young cannot throw the ball long accurately, that is the problem, the Titan receivers are fine.  No they are not Randy Moss or Wes Welker, but the Pats won prior super bowls without those guys.  If you have a guy that can deliver the ball on target downfield almost any NFL receiver can go get it.
Moss is arguably the best NFL receiver, but the Vikings didnt win a Super Bowl with him.
Now he is at the Patriots and making a lot more noise because he has a terriffic quarterback tossing it.
Young does not have what it takes to be a good passing quarterback and that is the bottom line.  Even if Young had Moss to throw to it wouldnt make much difference.

I agree that...
...Randy Moss is the best receiver in the NFL this year.  But on VY's first interception, the cause was that Brandon Jones quit on the route whereas the CB didn't.  It was the same type of play that Pac Man made on one of the Giants' receivers last year.  And on the second INT, the receiver stood in the end zone like a statue while the CB went and got the ball.  Neither of those were terrific throws, but both were catchable, playable balls.

Look, both Manning and Brady threw it up long last night, and both had both success and failure that way.  But they both have playmakers that VY just does not have.  And you're sitting there calling him a goat, but in truth, those are plays that Justin McCareins and maybe even Drew Bennett would have made.  And Ben Troupe's drop was ridiculous.

I'm not saying that Vince is as good as either Brady or Manning, but he's as good as Eli Manning was in Eli's second season and that's without half the down-field weapons that Eli had.  Moreover, VY has yet to cost his team a win, and at least if the passing game isn't working, he can still run.

Seriously, people are throwing VY under the bus, but he only has so much control.  Once the ball is in the air, either team can go get it.  We saw that yesterday, and not just in the Titans' game.

Right now, the Titans' receivers just aren't doing what they need to do.  And it's in that that the pre-season picks on this team were right.  Save for the short stuff to either the TEs or RBs and the occasional end-around, this team has NO playmakers in the passing game.  With a not-yet-complete QB, that's a very serious problem.

I agree as well..
VY has made some mistakes as I have said all year long but there are no playmakers on offense or guys that are going to run after the catch. How about Peyton's pass to Joseph Addai out of the backfield that turned into a 73 yard td yesterday? I have yet to see a receiver or rb turn a simple play into a big play gain.

Yet in still VY has to step up and make some better throws but please it would be nice to know that you can throw to a receiver knowing that he is going to go catch the ball the majority of the time. Our top receiver is not even a 3rd receiver on 80% of nfl teams.

Even if Young had moss it wouldn't make much of a difference?! Joy Kat give me a break! How many times have we seen Brady just throw a ball up and Moss going up to go catch it. I'm sure you saw that difference when he threw the same ball up to Stallworth and it was intercepted so don't give me that. Your almighty Kerry Collins hadn't thrown a td this year and the Texans' last 4 or 5 opponents have put up over 30 on them.

I disagree, I beleive Scaife is a
I beleive Scaiffe is a decent receiver. He turned a short pass into a approximately 25 yard play on third and long.  What more do you want?

Moss is the best receiver around, as I said earlier.  However, how many superbowls did the Pats win without him?  Plenty.  They did it with rather ordinary guys that got the job done.
Now you want a Randy Moss and another top pick to cover up for Vince Youngs mistakes?  Randy Moss just enhances the fact that Brady is that good.  Scaife is good, Troupe is not real great.
The Titans have one of the best defenses and THEY are the reason along with Bironas the team is 6 and 2.  The patriots would absolutely shred the Titans if it came down to it.  The Titan defense would slow the ground game but the passing game would roll and Brady would be the MVP.  If the pats lost Brady to injury then they would be in trouble, he is that important to the team.  Vince Young is not proving to be a key player.  Like Merrel Hoge said, "Fisher is trying to hide the quarterback."

It's not that I disagree...
...with any specific thing you said, but just that you want to bury the guy before the season's over, and it's been a heck of a season so far.  I mean, yeah, everything you said is true: Defense, Scaife, Brady last year, Hell even that Hoge thing is probably more or less accurate in that the team has been leaning on everything but VY's arm.  But you want to bury a guy who has a record of something like 14-6 as a starter, and it just seems a little premature, and even with all the passing struggles, the Titans can still win the division--amazingly--if they win out.  It no longer seems an impossible dream.

I guess all I'm saying is, before you bury VY for good because of a few weeks of erratic play, take a look at some other players and how they did in similar situations.  A really good one to look at is Drew Brees, who yesterday threw for 445 yards but who in his first 3 years as the Chargers' QB was the DEFINITION of a game-managing QB on a run-first team.  Because Brees was EXTREMELY erratic until his 4th year.  And now he's probably the 3rd or 4th best QB in the league.

It takes time.  Just breath deep and enjoy the ride.

I don't mind your opinion at all but...
the only comparisons you are making are Tom Brady & Peyton Manning. They are 2 of the top 10 qb's of all time and this guy has barely played a year & a half. With all due respect to Scaife (and I am a UT fan) he wouldn't make the Colts roster or the Patriots. The patriots have "shredded" every team they've played except the colts... the same colts the titans "coincidentally" lost to by 2. Vince Young is not playing well right now I will agree with that but which of these other young qb's are playing on Brady & Manning's level?

Philip Rivers: 4th year. Record: 4-4
Weapons- Tomlinson, Gates, newly acquired Chambers

Matt Leinart: 2nd year. Record: 3-5
Weapons- Edge, Boldin, Fitzgerald

Jay Cutler: 2nd year. Record: 3-5
Weapons- Walker, Henry

Big Ben: 4th year. Record: 5-2
Weapons- Parker, Ward, Holmes

Jason Campbell: 3rd year. Record 5-3
Weapons- Portis, Randle El, Moss, Cooley

Eli Manning: 4th year. Record 6-2
Weapons, Burress, Toomer, Shockey

As of now LenDale White is the closest thing young has to a weapon right now on offense and 2 weeks ago that was questionable.

Chris Henry...
is probably the only "weapon" the Titans have who'd see playing time on ANY of those teams.
