Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

NFL Power Rankings Time

It is time to take a look at where the so-called experts think the Titans rank against the other teams of the NFL.

ESPN.com:

9. Titans

The Titans are winning the close, low-scoring games. That's good for building character but bad for an offense that can't seem to produce many points. "As an offense, we have to get it together," Vince Young told The Tennessean.

FOXSports.com:

9. Titans

The Titans won the first leg of their mid-season three-game homestand, grinding one out over the Oakland Raiders. The 13-9 victory was by no means pretty. Vince Young's stat line was horrific, as the 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year went a paltry 6-14 for 42 yards. He didn't get much help from his targets. Wide receivers and tight end Ben Troupe dropped passes all afternoon, and penalties rattled the Tennessee offensive attack. When push came to shove, the Titans rushing attack and defense did the job, yet again. For all their problems with the passing game, the Titans are 5-2 and in the thick of the AFC playoff chase.

FootballLocks.com:

5. Titans

Vince Young threw for just 42 yards against the Raiders at home, a frightening stat. However, the Titans rushed for 192 yards and played solid defense, and got the win to improve to (5-2). With the win Tennessee remained tied with Jacksonville for second place in the AFC South, but with a game in hand.

NFLReport.com:

8. Titans

Vince Young was anything but spectacular in his return, but at home, Tennessee managed to pull out the victory over Oakland.

CBSSportsline:

9. Titans

They're 5-2, and it's all because of the defense. They have to throw it better. At least attempt to throw it to a receiver or two.

NewsDay.com:

9. Titans

Vince Young comes back, but is not quite the conquering hero. Had only 42 passing yards in beating the Raiders in a clunker. It's LenDale White who steals the show with 133 rushing yards.

NFL.com:

7. Titans

With the NFL's No. 1 run defense and a strong ground attack, the Titans are a rising a force.

Hashmarks:

8. Titans

Does anyone read Hashmarks?  Is it an NFL blog or a Cowboys blog?

The Big Lead:

5. Titans

Fourth-worst passing offense in the NFL is balanced out by 7th-best scoring defense.
The Chargers jumped the Titans in the ESPN.com rankings.  I am fine with that for now.  This week's average is 7.66.

Tied?
We're not tied with Jacksonville!

A W is a W!
Why does everyone insist that we throw the ball?  If the run game is working, use it.  If the defense is #1 against the run and dominating teams, rely on them.  It's a team effort and defense and the run game are all a part of that.  I'm happy with the team and the wins...no matter how "ugly" they look.  Would people rather have 300 pass yards and a loss?  Or 42 and a win?  I'll take the win.

If you have 300 pass yards, you are not going to have a loss, certainly not consistently.  Yes the defense is part of this team and have been taking care of business this year.  They really deserve all of the credit.
Vince Young is the one who needs to get it together.  He has an outstanding offensive line. They are giving him plenty of time to do what a quarterback should do.  Yes, there were a couple of drops last week, I am not talking about the Troupe in the endzone one either.  That was a VY mistake.  However in every game, a receiver drops a pass or two, even Randy Moss has a drop from time to time.
The redzone seems to be inpenetrable this year.  What will change that, I dont know.  It seems to be very elusive for the Titans.
Until there is a quarterback change the ground game is going to have to win the contests along with the superior defense.  I honestly do not beleive Vince Young is going to be great.  I think he will always be a poor to average NFL quarterback.  He has the athletic build and the size you want in a quarterback and has good speed.  However there are so many other qualities that you need to have to lead a team.   He has not shown the ability to get the job done this year.

Joy Kat
you are absolutely Right!  Vince does need to get it together!

but in order for him to do so he needs to start!

So thanks for figuring out our supposed QB problem.  I'm pretty sure he needs to be starting and not Collins

Corrections
The defense is part of this team and HAS been taking care of business. (not HAVE) (subject-verb agreement)

INPENETRABLE is not a word.  IMPENETRABLE is a word.

I before E, except after C.  BELEIVE is not correct; BELIEVE is correct.

You are correct.
I do not ever make grammatical errors.  Also, I do not ever spell words incorrectly.  Does that make me a jerk?

Joy Cat, what they are talking about is that you
are responding to the "post comment" at bottom of the thread page.  If you will click on the "post reply" link directly under the comment that you are commenting on you will be "on thread".

Also, if you install the Google tool bar on your browser you will have a great little spell checker that you can click and be done with it!  Just trying to help.

Sorry, what I meant in the 1st paragraph is that
you need to click on the "reply to this" link.  Not the post reply.
