New York, NY (Sports Network) - Atlanta running back Michael Turner, Philadelphia safety Brian Dawkins and Giants kicker John Carney were named the NFC's top players for Week 3 of the NFL season.
Turner rushed for 104 yards and a career-high three touchdowns in a 38-14 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs to earn his second Offensive Player of the Week award in the past three weeks. In Week 1, he had 220 yards and two touchdowns to take home the weekly award. He becomes the first player to ever have a 200- yard game and a three-rushing-touchdown game in his first three contests with a new team.
With his two career weekly awards, Turner joins Gerald Riggs and Jamal Anderson as the only players in Atlanta history to win multiple weekly offensive awards.
Dawkins had 10 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the Eagles' hard fought 15-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game was the 170th for Dawkins in an Eagles uniform, which moved him past Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik for second place in franchise history. He led a defense that limited Pittsburgh to just 180 yards, including 33 rushing yards. It was his third weekly award.
Carney hit a game-winning 22-yard field goal in overtime to help the Giants to a 26-23 win over Cincinnati. In the game, he converted both extra points and all four field goal attempts, including the 15th game-winning field goal of his career. It was the 13th weekly award in his 21-year career.
