It has been a good week to be a Titans fan.  The offense looked revamped under Kerry Collins in Cincinnati, and the defense continued their domination.  Combine that with the Jaguars 0-2 start and the injury to Colts safety Bob Sanders, it is looking like the division could be ripe for the picking.  Am I saying that the those teams are done?  Absolutely not, but the gap between those teams and the Titans is gone.

Now you look up and the Houston Texans are coming to town.  The Titans have pretty much owned the Texans since they became an NFL franchise, but this is a new year.  People seem to forget that even though the Titans are 10-2 against the Texans, the games are never easy.  Both of last season's games came right down to the wire.

It will be interesing to see how the Texans come out for this game after a week of dealing with Hurricane Ike.  Most times you will see a team come out either really inspired or really flat following a week with some event like that.  The Titans better be ready for an inspired Texans team.

I expect the Titans to win this game and improve to 3-0, but it won't be easy.  I welcome your thoughts..

Thanks to everyone who participated in the open thread for last night's preseason game.  I was not in attendance because I was in a sports bar trying to watch the Titans game and the Vandy game because of some writing I do for Vandy Mania.  Here is the list of participants from last night's thread and the number of comments they made.  I plan on putting this up after every thread this season.

We did this for LenDale last season and we ended with The Round Mound of First Down, which is a fantastic nickname.  This year we will pick one for Chris Johnson.  Vote in the poll below which will stay open for 1 week.

As I am in the habit of doing, I stole this idea from someone (this time it happens to be Chris over at Arrowhead Pride (who, incidentally, stole it from someone else)).  The question before us is Why are you a Tennessee Titans fan?

I will start.  My answer is pretty simple.  I have always been a huge football fan because my dad was (and is) a huge football fan.  I grew up cheering for The University of Alabama in college football and kind of bouncing around different NFL teams.  As most kids do, I was usually a fan of whoever the best team was (except for the Cowboys because I hate them).  I settled on being a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan after seeing them at an exhibition game at Vanderbilt.  It was always fun to me to cheer for a team that wasn't very good because I knew one day they would get good, and no one would be able to accuse me of being a bandwagon fan.

That all changed when the Titans came to Tennessee in 1997.  I was so excited to have an NFL franchise in my state.  It seemed like they weren't  really our team until 1999 when they changed the name and moved into the new stadium.  Of course that first season was magical, and I have been hooked ever since.

So there is my testimonial.  Let me hear yours..
