Houston Texans Wide Receiver Andre Johnson Had Knee Scoped

Photo

My Twitter timeline has been blowing up over the last few minutes with news that Andre Johnson has his knee scoped a couple of weeks ago. He will miss OTAs with the Texans. You can expect to see a few of these stories over the next week or so as teams are on the field for the first time this offseason. It will be the first opportunity for the media to notice that a player is missing.

This procedure does not seem to be a big deal. AJ has apparently said that he will be ready for training camp. However, Texans' fans have to be a little bit concerned about the overall health of Johnson. He only played in seven games last year while battling injuries to both hamstrings. Houston did not seem to be bothered that much by his absence as they rolled to an AFC South title.

Could the Jaguars and Maurice Jones-Drew Be Heading Down a Familiar Road?

JACKSONVILLE FL - OCTOBER 03: Running back Maurice Jones-Drew #32 of the Jacksonville Jaguars runs against the Indianapolis Colts at EverBank Field on October 3 2010 in Jacksonville Florida. (Photo by Marc Serota/Getty Images)

"New offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski says skipping this week's organized team activities isn't doing Maurice Jones-Drew any favors." When I read that sentence from the ESPN AFC South blog this morning and couldn't help but think back to the saga last offseason between Chris Johnson and the Titans. It just sounds all to familiar. The star running back, who wants a new contract, is not with his team while a new coaching staff is trying to install a new offense.

Of course the Jaguars have a lot of time before it gets as ugly as it did here, and MJD has not said he is planning on holding out like CJ did last year, but it can't make him very happy to see these mega deals that some running backs around the league have gotten in the last year.

Jones-Drew also knows that he probably only has one big contract left. He has racked up the carries in the last couple of years, and figures to do so again this season unless Blaine Gabbert makes some kind of miracle transition in year two.

This might end up being nothing, but it is something to keep an eye on.

Jonathan Vilma Sues Roger Goodell

Photo

NFL football cannot get here soon enough, so that we can actually have something on the field to talk about instead of this stupid bounty scandal. Look, I understand that it is bad for players to go our there and try to injure other players. That should not be a part of the game, but the fact is that it goes on in every locker room. The fact that Roger Goodell is making such an example out of the Saints is a little ridiculous in my opinion.

Now the tables have been turned on Goodell as Jonathan Vilma has decided to sue Goodell for slander according to multiple reports on Twitter. We live in a day in age where anyone can sue anyone else for just about anything, so it is way to early to know if this case will actually make it to court or not, but it is another PR black eye for the league.

A Sobering Note: Chad Jones Waived By Giants.

TUSCALOOSA, AL - NOVEMBER 07: (FILE) Chad Jones #3 of the Louisiana State University Tigers against the Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium on November 7, 2009 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. According to reports on June 25, 2010, Jones, the New York Giants third round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, was in critical condition following a single-car accident this morning. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

Happy Tuesday everybody, unfortunately, this is not a story about the Tennessee Titans, it is simply a human interest story that I have been following for awhile now. Some of you may remember Chad Jones as the LSU defensive back/relief pitcher who blew people away with his bevy of athletic gifts. Guys who can play football like Jones and deliver 91 MPH fastballs with accuracy don't just come around all the time, he was a pretty exciting commodity for awhile.

Others may remember him for his vicious (and illegal) hit on Joe Adams of Arkansas back in 2007. While awareness for head injuries and the hits that cause them was around, I feel like that hit really sparked a whole new interest in player safety.

Maybe you don't remember him at all. Whatever the case may be, Chad Jones was a guy that I always rooted for. In 2010, Jones was drafted in the third round by the New York Giants. I was a believer that he would see solid playing time. But then, as it so often does, life happened.

2012 NFL AFC South Odds

Photo

Vegas is already starting to put out odds on who will win each NFL division. I feel like it is necessary here to say that it is ridiculous to have this stuff out so early because we have no idea what pretty much any team is going to look like come August, let alone December. You already know all of that.

It is hard to argue with the way they have the AFC South right now. The Texans are clearly the favorite heading into the season. It will be up to the Titans to prove they have taken that next step.

Click through the jump to see the odds for each division (courtesy Sportsbook.com).

Barrett Ruud Signs with the Seattle Seahawks

Photo

This is a tough day here at MCM. Site favorite Barrett Ruud has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks. Ruud's arch with the Titans is pretty funny to think back on. We were all pretty excited when the team signed him because he was decent against the run and good in pass coverage. I cannot speak for everyone, but I think it is safe to say that most people thought he was going to be an upgrade over Stephen Tulloch. I know I did.

Just a few short weeks later, the entire fanbase was ready to run him out of town with pitchforks. He couldn't tackle or cover anyone. It also didn't help his cause that Colin McCarthy proved to be a really, really good player when he got to fill in for Ruud.

The Seahawks are apparently just impressed with people from the Titans organization as the other way around. Earlier this season they added former Titans DL Jason Jones.

On a scale of 1-10, how sad are you about this news?
