Coach Fisher's Thursday Practice Report

(on the Texans run defense)

Well, the first three games they were giving up an average of 204 yards a game and the last six they've given up 60, and 60 would put them at the top of the league in the NFL right now. It's getting people healthy, a few minor adjustments, people in the right place and not giving up big plays.

(on Brian Cushing)

I thought he was playing really well in week three. He's improved since then. DeMeco (Ryans) is playing well. They're playing well upfront and the corners are supporting well. They're just not giving up big plays. They're scoring points. Teams don't have as many carries against them in the last six weeks, but they're playing well.

(on if there is dislike for the Texans)

I think we've established a rivalry now. We've gone there and lost, they beat us here at home. I think we've established a rivalry now.

(on why teams get better after bye weeks)

Some teams will improve, other teams for whatever reason will come back and have penalties and timing will be off and such. I haven't really gone and studied what they've done after bye weeks rather than just look at games after bye weeks to see if there's any unusual things that take place. We'll have to see. I'm sure they got a chance to heal up. They got an extra chance to game plan against us. We'll just have to see.

(on the Texans being an up and coming team)

They made a change on the defensive side and I think they've settled down. (Matt) Schaub has been healthy. They've got terrific players around him. Andre Johnson is as good if not the best in the league right now outside, even though they lost (Owen) Daniels, they still have other receivers that can make plays. They're well coached upfront, they've got a good running game, they've got three backs that can carry the football and they're not turning it over. That's a pretty simple equation there. They're a team that's drafted well. They built their defense up and that's been the difference.

(on if he sees the Texans as a playoff team)

I see them as our next opponent. I know this is perhaps one of the biggest games in their franchise's history. We'll see, I think over the next three or four weeks people will have a better idea.

(on Andre Johnson beating the defense deep down the field during the last game)

I give them credit for executing, but we didn't play well. We made some mistakes. We can't shut Andre out, you just don't do that. They're going to get him the football. What we can't do is give up the big plays deep down the field.

(on Vince Young playing at home in Houston)

I think it's always going to be an exciting time for him to go back and play at home. I think this week will be a little different. He'll be much more focused on football and the X's and O's rather than the emotions associated with going home.

(on if there is an advantage to having more experience at playing in big games)

They played the Monday night game last year. Each game along the way against different opponents becomes a big game for them. This game is about settling down and weathering the storm through the first couple of series, dealing with emotions and staying focused on football.

A Call to Arms for Titans Fans: Go Vote for Chris Johnson for the Pro Bowl

Photo

More photos » by John Russell - AP

So I get these PR releases from the NFL a few times a week about different things.  Today I got one that really disturbed me- It was the voting results to date for the Pro Bowl, and Cedric Benson is the leading vote getter among AFC running backs.  Now this is not meant to be a shot at Benson who is having a very nice year, but come on.  Johnson has 232 more rushing yards, 196 more receiving yards and 3 more total touchdowns.

So I have taken it upon myself to make sure that CJ is the starting running back for the AFC in the Pro Bowl.  Of course I need your help.  You can vote as many times as you want, and you don't even have to vote for all of the positions to submit you ballot.  All you have to do is click here, click on the tab that says running backs and check CJ's name.  It will take you about 10 seconds.  Do it 10 times before you go to bed tonight.

CJ is in line for one of the best seasons in NFL history by a running back.  Let's make sure he gets rewarded by starting the Pro Bowl.

Bud Adams Fined $250K for Flipping off the Bills

That's the dumbest thing I've heard of recently. The idea of the NFL adjusting fines based on how much somebody makes is a Pandora's Box: does a helmet to helmet hit get a lesser fine for Dave Ball than KVB?

This fine should have been $25,000, and saying otherwise is just crazy. If you're going to make the argument that he's a billionaire then $250,000 won't matter much more.

Bill Belicheat only got twice this much FOR CHEATING DURING A GAME. Also, Bud had already apologized.

The NFL is officially out of control with these fines.

Bud Adams Gives the Buffalo Bills Sideline the Double Bird

I honestly have no idea what that was about.  It is obvious there is plenty of history between these two teams with two of the most memorable playoff games ever and the fact that both were original AFL teams, but it seems really odd that Bud Adams would do that.  I am sure the Houston people will be here soon further profess their love for all things Mr. Adams.

August suggested that it could have been directed at the commissioner which is just as good of a theory as any other.

This thing has already been taking on a life of it's own on the internet.  It is pretty unlikely that we will ever know what exactly was going through his head at that moment, but it will probably add even more fuel to the fire as we head toward the Monday Night Football meeting with the Texans.

From Clay Travis:

In 1999, these two teams brought America the Music City Miracle. Ten years later, meet the Music City Salute.

It will be interesting to see if Goodell does anything to Bud.

**UPDATE: Right on cue, the No Fun League is looking into Bud's salute.

Tennessee Titans promote WR Dominique Edison to active roster

Photo

More photos » by John Russell - AP

Wide receiver Dominique Edison was promoted from the practice squad to play on Sunday against the Bills. This move comes after Justin Gage broke his back last week against the 49ers. Edison had a very good showing in the preseason, so when he was  moved to the practice squad earlier this season, it was a great surprise.

Offensive lineman Fernando Velasco was released to make space for Edison. It seems that there is a good chance that David Stewart will be back playing against Buffalo since Velasco was promoted last week for depth on the offensive line.

(on how much difference it makes if Terrell Owens plays)

Well, there's a significant difference. We'll adjust. He's a very good football player. He's been making plays all his life. He's a solid football player. There's key situations where you definitely have to be aware of him.

(on the Bills taking shots down the field)

This is an NFL offense. They're trying to get the ball down the field. Defenses will take some things away at times, but they've certainly got the tools at the receiver position to make big plays.

(on LenDale White)

Yes, he practiced today.

(on if he's encouraged by David Stewart coming back)

He participated in practice today. It was the first time since last Friday, so it was good to see.

Coach Fisher's Thursday Practice Report

It is not snowing. (AP Photo/Steven Senne)

It is not snowing. (AP Photo/Steven Senne)

(on the challenges for Leroy Harris facing a 3-4 defense and a 4-3 defense)

It will be similar to what he faced in third down passing situations last week where they'll have a wide rusher, and a good wide rusher. Their ends are very talented and they rush hard, they play with tremendous effort. That will be more of a challenge if he has to play.

(on the defense's success over the last few weeks)

I think it starts with returning both of the DB's because that allows us to do more. Once they come back then, if in fact we need to pressure a little more we can. They have a little better understanding. Rod's (Hood) played, he can cover, he can challenge receivers. So, it really starts there.

(on William Hayes)

He had his most productive outing last week. He had eight tackles, one and a half sacks, three quarterback pressures and a couple knockdowns and caused fumble. He was very productive last week. It's good to see him come on. He's a talented player both against the pass as well as the run.

(on the Bills throwing the ball downfield to Lee Evans)

They're spreading it around, but they're taking their shots if the defense permits it. He's a talented receiver. I think most people just assume that he might be just kind of one of those underneath slot receivers. He can get behind you and get deep.

(on Bills LB Paul Posluszny)

He's directing the defense. He's making all the calls. He's a good player. He's a talented linebacker and plays sideline to sideline and he's a good run stopper. He can also fit and play pass coverage deep down the field.

(on Bills RB Fred Jackson)

Jackson's a very solid back. He's got really good quickness. When a guy's got quickness, he typically has good vision. He's a good runner from the standpoint he sets his runs up. They don't do a lot in the run game, they just do it over and over and over again. He'll press a hole and cut back, he'll press a hole and bounce out. He's a guy that has a good feel for what they're doing.

(on Bills QB Trent Edwards)

He's hard to get on the ground. He's strong, he's athletic, he's a mobile quarterback and he's very smart. He'll put the ball where it needs to be put down the field. He's got a sense for timing. If you can make him hold it then you get a chance to trap him. For the most part, he's going to get rid of the football.

Coach Fisher's Wednesday Practice Report

I missed you sooo much. Thank you for saving my job. (AP Photo/Marcio Sanchez)

I missed you sooo much. Thank you for saving my job. (AP Photo/Marcio Sanchez)

(on the Bills run defense)

I would be very careful when you look at statistics and rush to judgment on how their playing. To give you an example, they've been rushed over 60 times more than the league average. Those statistics are just taking total yards from scrimmage. They've played some good run teams. They're fully equipped to stop the run. They're a very quick, aggressive defense. They have 15 interceptions already. The backup free safety has seven. They've got two scores on defense and nearly 20 sacks already. So, this is a very aggressive defense that has given up some plays as most defenses do.

(on if he anticipates Chris Johnson to have a big day)

Every week is a challenge and every week's a different matchup, sometimes you matchup better against opponents than others. We have to go out with the intention that we're going to run the football. There's no guarantees based on statistics.

(on the Bills backup free safety Jairus Byrd)

We watched him real closely prior to the draft at corner. He's got good natural ball skills. He's got some deflections, some bounces particularly because of their pressure.

(on Trent Edwards being named the starter for the game and if they have been preparing for Trent Edwards or Ryan Fitzpatrick)

There are similarities between the quarterbacks. We anticipated him returning benefiting from the bye week. He's completing about 60 percent of his passes. He's won some games. Our concern is this team's had some difficulties winning at home, but they're 3-1 on the road. They're a good road team and despite the fact we had the matchup in the preseason, it's the similar challenge that we had last weekend that we have to become familiar with this opponent.

(on Justin Gage's struggles this season)

Justin made plays throughout. Justin was just part of the team that just weren't getting things done, not that he wasn't specifically. We didn't have a whole lot of opportunities. He, like the rest of the guys, had several drops. He's always been able to make the big catch for us. He certainly made two huge catches for us in the game last weekend.

(on if Justin Gage's performance last weekend will carry over)

We're hoping so. He didn't practice today. I'm concerned about him with his lower back as a result of landing on the ground. We're hoping that he'll improve quickly.

(on if he's seen Vince Young's confidence grow over the last two weeks)

Well, yeah. Any time you get an opportunity to do what he's done and play the way he has, it's going to help. I think the team's confidence has grown, since the off week we've done some good things. We're completing 73 percent of our passes and rushing for almost 230 yards a game and getting turnovers. When good things happened then the whole team starts to become more confident.

(on Terrell Owens)

He is a very, very talented player. It's just a matter of time before he's taking over a game. We can't allow that to happen.

(on if he's ever seen a player during his time in the NFL with the same speed as Chris Johnson)

Not in that position, no. Not in the running back position.

(on comparing Barry Sanders to Chris Johnson)

Well, Barry was very...it's unfair to compare both Chris to Barry because they're completely different style runners. Barry didn't have the long deep speed, he had the tremendous quickness and balance and change of direction.

(on if there is another player at a different position with similar speed as Chris Johnson)

Over the years, players will come in the league that can really, really run but you just haven't seen anyone at the running back position with the run skills that he has.

(on former Bears WR Willie Gault's speed compared to Chris Johnson)

The strait-away speed, Willie was a world-class sprinter. He has football speed. People often times talk in terms of well you've got a track guy playing football. This is different. This is a football player with track speed is what he is.

(on what new dynamics are opened up with Vince Young and Chris Johnson in the backfield)

It remains to be seen right now. We're going to have look and be able to adjust offensively. The dynamics are being determined by the approach the defense takes.

(on if they can learn anything from playing the Bills in the preseason)

The guys can go back and recall the individual matchups, particularly upfront. We played our starters just two or three series. There's a lot of change on their club because of injury, especially at the linebacker position.
