Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Otto Stays In The Picture Edition
The Titans signed veteran reserve tackle Mike Otto to a two-year deal that locks him up through 2013. Otto has appeared in 41 games over the past five years, and got his first start this past season filling in for an injured David Stewart. Otto is a reliable back up with the ability to play either tackle spot. He's also a consistent presence as a blocker on special teams. Locking up Otto, with Byron Stingily and Troy Kropog still around, ensures that no matter what changes come happen along the offensive line, there will be steady depth at the tackle position.
On the heels of that news comes word from Terry McCormick that the next veteran the Titans are looking to negotiate with is Jason Jones. Jones' struggles as a DE are well documented, but Jerry Gray is hinting that Jones may be moved back inside next season if the two sides can agree on a contract. I don't expect Jones to get more than two or three years, but I'm hoping they can get Jones signed and play him at DT, where he's a force rushing the passer. Just imagine he and Klug next to each other in the middle on obvious passing downs.
Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Not That Gannon Edition
Just when we all thought the Titans coaching staff was completely settled, they go out and add Jonathan Gannon as quality control coach. Gannon has been a scout for the St. Louis Rams for the past three seasons, and was a defensive quality control coach for the Falcons back in 2007. He'll have the same role here.
Titans Sized looks at Damian Williams, and asks if Titans fans are giving him too much crap. I think there are some corners of the Internet where that's the case, but most of us at MCM have a pretty realistic view of Williams: hugely talented and improving, but still prone to disappearing when he's asked to be the primary option.
No big surprises in PFF's "Trending in the AFC South" segment: Finnegan made most improved, Jason Jones had the biggest drop-off and Karl Klug is most deserving of more snaps.
Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Think Global, Draft Local Edition
I've written about this pipeline for years, but John Glennon has a detailed piece on the history of the Titans drafting players who have trained for the combine at local workout facility (co-owned by Peyton Manning) D1. In four of the past five years we've drafted someone who spent time at the Cool Springs facility, including: Antonio Johnson, Troy Koprog, Jason Jones and Byron Stingily
Mitch Schwartz was one of the guys who really boosted their stock with a strong performance at the Senior Bowl.
David Boclair weighs in on Peyton Manning's future, and the possibility of him landing in Nashville.
Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Hot Chicken Edition
The Food Network show Heat Seekers that airs tonight will feature Jordan Babineaux. The show will be showcasing the Nashville delicacy 'hot chicken', though they shamefully decided to feature a sports bar over legendary places like Bolton's and Prince's. Sure, you're way more likely to get shivved in the parking lot of Prince's, but that's the birthplace of our style of 'hot chicken'... which is exactly what it sounds like, but so much more than you're imagining.
Weirdest Titans-related tidbit from the Super Bowl: former Titans linebacker Rocky Boiman called the game over he radio for the BBC. That's a hell of a leap for a guy who was still suiting up just two seasons ago.
Props to MIA for saluting Bud Adams during the halftime show last night!
Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Hitting The Snooze Button On 'The Liberian Dream' Edition
Yesterday news came in that Myron Rolle signed with the Steelers, and now former-Titans LB Rennie Curran has signed a futures-reserve contract with Tampa Bay.
John Glennon thinks there's too much risk and too much money involved in bringing Peyton Manning to the Titans. I think the issue has more to do with not enough properly functioning nerve endings.
Todd McShay unveils his new mock draft, and he has the Titans taking USC DE Nick Perry.
Tennessee Titans Daily Links: The Patented McCourty Switch Edition
Funny story: when Patriot's owner Bob Kraft called Devin McCourty to tell him the Pats were taking him with the 27th pick in the 2010 draft, Jason actually answered and played it off like he was Devin. Kraft never knew the difference.
Jeff Fisher is finally getting his wish: his son Brandon has left the Lions to join his father's staff in St. Louis as an assistant. No word yet on where in the staff Bandon will fit. You folks will remember that Fisher's desire to hire his son as an assistant with the Titans was apparently a part of the split between Jeff and Bud Adams, who has a long-standing policy against nepotism in regards to his employees.
Jim Wyatt has new pics from Super Bowl week in Indy.
Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Black, Two Sugars Nate Edition
Kenny Britt pled guilty to disturbing the peace back in Hoboken, NJ, and was assessed a $1,500 fine. The charges were the downgraded result from the incident last June where police accused Britt of crushing a joint/blunt and getting rid of it before police could find it. It'll be interesting to see if the guilty plea, despite the reduced charges and toothless punishment, will be enough to warrant a suspension to be served next season from the commish.
The Titans have hired Nate Kaczor to fetch Bruce Matthew's coffee be the assistant offensive line coach. Kaczor has spent the past four seasons as the assistant special teams coach in Jacksonville, and before that he coached for 17 years at the college level. Kaczor will replace Art Valero (whom I'd never heard of), who left the team because he wanted to coach a position group.
Paul K unveils his All-AFC South defense and special teams units, and Titans Jurrell Casey, Cortland Finnegan, Rob Bironas and Marc Mariani make the cut. Mariani gets in there as a punt returner, which you know Jimmy and Gramsey are going to love...
Tennessee Titans Daily Links: Another Chance To Honor Bud Adams Edition
Paul K unveils his All-AFC South offensive unit, which features Titans Nate Washington and Matt Hasselbeck.
Bud Adams has been named a finalist for the NFL's inaugural Salute to Service Award for his contributions to the United States Military. Among other gestures, Adams has hosted over 11,000 Fort Campbell soldiers at Titans games since the franchise arrived in 1997. Ravens coach John Harbaugh is the other finalist for the award.
Jim Wyatt checks in from Indianapolis, where Peyton Manning is still the talk of the town despite the arrival of the teams actually playing in the Super Bowl.
