Fantasy Football Week 11: Waiver Wire Pick-ups
Another week of waiver wire pick-ups. I've also got a list of guys you'll want to drop after a rough week of injuries. Well enough of the blah, blah, blah. Lets get into it.
The Official MCM Fantasy League Week 1 Recap
Week One in the MCM Fantasy League was a real barn burner. VY's Brisket Ballers had the highest score of the week with a whopping 150.6. Mike Tolbert was his MVP with 31.8 points. He took down Thorchak's Hammer who scored 125.36 points. Wes Welker was his leading scorer.
The closest game of the week was between my dad (The Boys T&G) and me (Schrute Farms). We scored less points than anyone else in the league, and I edged him out 94.7 to 93.58. Reggie Bush's junk score when he dove and hit the pylon put me over the top.
SouthTexasTitans took down Mean Machine 115.28 to 104.48
The Rothbardians were narrowly edged out by Jake Locker 2011 126.66 to 123.42.
Crazylegs28 beat Channel 4 News team 137.4 to 122.98
And finally, Gold Teeth for All knocked off Homerun Throwback 132.78 to 102.16.
I have posted the complete standings for the league after the jump.
Play Fantasy Football Games with MCM
We have had a couple of people start a couple of fantasy football games on Yahoo! for all of us to join. You know as well that I do that these games are more fun the more people that join them.
The first league is a Pick'Em League started by Crazy Titan. He posted about it in this fanpost, and you can join the league on Yahoo! with the ID 47588 and password football.
Titans_Firefighter started Survival League that he posted about here. You can join that league with the ID 20353 and password titans11.
Sign up for those leagues quickly because your picks will need to be in before the game on Thursday night. Don't miss a week because then you will be behind and less likely to continue throughout the season. That will make all of us sad because no one likes a quitter. Let the games and the fun begin!
GO TITANS!!
MCM Saturday Fantasy Football Question
I am in a 10 team fantasy football league where we get to pick where we draft based on how we finished the year before. I am not exactly sure what determines who gets the first pick, (I should probably figure that out) but last year I picked first where I would draft. I chose the 10th pick. I like that pick because you end up with two really good players.
This year I had the third pick on where to draft. The first guy chose the first pick, and the second guy chose the 10th pick. It was a tough decision for me between 2nd and 9th. For some reason I really like being in one of those spots where you get to pick back to back. I absolutely hate being right in the middle.
Anyway, all of that is just a long and drawn out way of asking all of you where you like to pick in drafts. Let me know in the comments.
Also, we will be doing another Official MCM Fantasy Football league this year. Stay tuned for an announcement next week.
Saturday NFL Fantasy Football Question: Where Should Michael Vick Rank?
Last season Michael Vick was the biggest fantasy football surprise of the year. I am in a league where we get to keep two players. You keep the players as the draft pick of the round you got them in the year before. If you keep a guy that was undrafted the year before, he is kept as a 10th round pick. So there is a guy that gets to keep the #2 overall player from last season as a 10- not a bad deal for him.
That is an easy decision. The tough decision for this season is going to come for guys that are trying to figure out where to draft Vick. He is easily the best quarterback when healthy because he racks up so many points with his legs in addition to his passing numbers, but health is the big question mark. He has only played in all 16 games once in his 8 NFL seasons.
Of course the flip side to that coin is that even though he only played in 12 games last season he still put up more points than any other quarterback.
I pretty much never take a QB in the first round, but if I have an early second round pick it is going to be tough to pass on Vick. I would take Aaron Rodgers over him, but I think he is the only one.
My reason for taking Rodgers over him is that Rodgers has the better chance of staying healthy, and if you look at 2011 projections, like this one from Mike Clay over at PFF, Rodgers is projected for nearly as many points.
What say you?
The Tennessee Titans and Fantasy Football
Rob Warner of FF Toolbox wrote an article last week projecting how some of the Titans' players will do from a fantasy football perspective in 2011. We all know that Chris Johnson is a top three pick, if not the first pick overall, but this year the Titans have a couple of other guys that could make a big impact in your fantasy league.
A lot of where guys like Kenny Britt and Jared Cook get drafted will depend on how many Titans' fans are in your league. If you are in a league full of them you will have to overpay to get those guys, but if you are in a league with people who don't know anything about the Titans you can probably get good value with both of them. The one thing about Cook is that he is going to be the hot "sleeper" on every "expert's" list.
Click through the jump for some of my thoughts on what Warner had to say.
Fantasy Football: Jared Cook A "Name to Watch"
Our friend Mike Clay over at Pro Football Focus posted an article earlier today and listed Titans TE Jared Cook on his "Names to Watch" list:
The good news is that Bo Scaife is out the door and Jared Cook clearly took over as the team’s top receiving tight end late in the season. After running a total of just 35 pass routes from weeks 1-11, Cook ran 18+ in 5 of the team’s final 6 games. That run was highlighted by a combined 19 targets over weeks 16 and 17.
Any sentence that leads off with "The good news is that Bo Scaife is out the door" is one of my favorite sentences ever.
Chris Palmer, in his introductory presser earlier today (more on that later), is very excited about Cook according to Jim Wyatt.
We here at MCM complained for a year and a half about Cook not being on the field. The Titans coaches finally got over their stubborn refusal not to play him and it paid off. Palmer has already identified Cook as a playmaker, so I am hoping that we see big things from him starting in week 1.

Official MCM Fantasy Football League Results
I defeated NewsToTom in the championship game of the Official MCM Fantasy Football league 88-72. Hal knocked off August 86-62 in the third place game meaning all of the moderators who participated had good teams with the exception of smash who had a terrible team.
Thanks to everyone who played, and we will do it again in 2011. Be on the lookout for a post from mgrex about a playoff fantasy football contest that he puts together every year.
