The REAL reason the Oilers HAD to leave H-Town

Now gather around my children and you will hear the legend of (cue scary music now)..."The Curse of the Astrodome". It all started back when the Oilers used to play in the Astrodome. Now legend has it that Billy Graham was coming to town and wanted to hold the Crusade in the Astrodome. Well, since the Oilers were scheduled to play there that weekend, Uncle Bud gave him the (cue scary music now) "double bird salute". Said something about not wanting to change the schedule...rather than playimg the game on the road, instead. Rumor has it that God put a curse on the Astrodome (even the Astros couldn't win there!). And from that time forward...these teams were cursed as long as they played there! EXAMPLE: The debacle in Buffalo (cue Uncle Bud's famous flip off now) that still stands as the biggest CHOKE in NFL history. EXAMPLE: Mike Renfro catching the game winning pass in the endzone that the refs called him out of bounds (playoff game against the dreaded Steelers....cue Bum Phillips saying "next year we'll KICK IT IN!") which was THE play that lead to the NFL coming up with the INSTANT REPLAY that we have all come to know & love today.

So you see boys and girls, the Oilers had to get out of the Astrodome...and when the city gave Uncle Bud the double bird...they had no choice but to leave. But thank God, the people of Tenn. took them into their hearts and homes...and at last the curse was broken! EXAMPLE: TITANS GO TO THE SUPERBOWL!!! And with God on our side NOW...who do we have to fear? (except Peyton). So play on young Titans....THE VICTORY IS YOURS!!

P.S. The Lord told me that He forgives Uncle Bud...and that He is waiting with open arms when he decides to confess his sins and repent (and from the way you look in your last pic, Uncle Bud, I'd use the "hurry up offense" on this one). May God bless Tenn. & the Titans!!!

What "IT" is

Haters always discount what VY fans say is his greatest attribute: he's got IT. But what does that mean? It means he fills his teammates with confidence and crushes the spirit of his opponents. It doesn't show up (directly) in the stats, but it's in the huddle, on the sidelines, and in the player's heads as they go to sleep every night. Don't believe me?

There are a couple of good links today. Can't believe August missed the one from the Chronicle. And this one from hornfans brings back memories of watching the team evolve from one labeled as "soft" to the one that had enough fire and confidence to conquer every single demon Texas' football had developed over the last forty years.

The next three games will go a long way in determining what kind of football team the Titans turn into for the rest of the season and heading into next year. VY has a chance to do something special, let's hope he can bring IT.

Hello Titans fans, I'm Jake from Battle Red Blog. Jimmy was gracious enough to create a fanpost over at BRB allowing our readers to see the viewpoint of our opponent, so I thought I'd return the favor.

There is no love loss between these two teams, but if you can see past those feelings it's obvious that the Titans and the Texans are forming a compelling rivalry. The first game between these two teams earlier this season was a great contest, although it was hard to watch if you are a fan of either franchise.

This game shouldn't dissapoint either. On one hand, you have the resurgent Titans who have one three games in a row on the efforts of Vince Young and Chris Johnson. On the other hand, there is the Texans who have had an up and down season but feature a prominent passing attack and a young, improving defense.

So fire away Titans bloggers. Any questions you have I will be glad to answer and I'm sure I'll get help from my BRB brethren. Good luck this week, it should be a great game for Monday Night Football.

The present is nice, but what about the future?

i just wanted to make a post to talk about the future of the titans. mostly with player personnel. i wanted to ask my fellow titans fans for their input on if we should resign smash after this year. i just watched a video over on the titans official website where fisher was doing an interview with steve mariuchi and he said lendale was just sick this week and that fisher has plans to get him more involved in upcoming games. Do you think it's wise to take away carries from a red hot chris johnson right now? javon ringer has looked promising when given opportunities and could possibly suffice as the back up to cj. i personally think teams would fear cj and ringer more than cj and lendale. i think with the weight loss white isn't the same back. but to be fair, he hasnt had much of an opportunity this year. also i just wanted to ask what we should address in the draft next year from what we have seen. does vy bring enough to the table to be our franchise qb? i personally think i need to see a couple more consistent games like he has been playing to make me a complete believer in him, but i hope he does. is our d line solid enough that we dont need any replacements? what about our current o line? mawae may be good but it looks like he will retire after this year. also is the rest of our o line depth sufficient enough? do we need more depth at db? or are we ok with the starters we have and the rookies coming back. we really seemed to have found a gem in free agency with rod hood. it still amazes me how he was out on the streets and not signed with a team. what about our lb corps. tulloch, mcrath, and thorton appear to all be solid for the future. but should we pay an aging keith bullick who appears to still have the it factor? and in my opinion our main two concerns wr and return specialists. yea britt looks promising and cook supposedely presents good match ups cuz of speed. but gage is a hot and cold reciever. washington appears to only get a td every now and then but hasn't really shown a lot of potential to be the home run hitter we had hoped for. i personally think edison could potentially be a solid choice for the future. but i doubt he will get any opportunities in real time games before gage returns. hawkins i really don't know much about other than he never gets the ball, whether it's cuz he is always covered well or just can't get enough separation. crump is getting older and i think is just taking up roster space. scaife is one of vinces favorite targets, so if we move forward with vince, we should hold onto him i think. craig stevens is an excellent blocker but might serve better on the practice squad cuz he has little relevance on real time games, at least that i have noticed. and returning pearman only appears to be "safe" but not very effective. we need someone who other teams dont want to kick the ball to. leave your comments please.

MNF Game

My brother lives in Houston and is a die hard Texans fan since he wasn't there when the Titans were originally. So for the past couple of years, I fly down to Houston when we play at Reliant and he flies up here for the game at LP Field. My question is, anyone going to be down there for the game?

It should be a lot of fun watching VY take it to the Texans in his home town. I find it extra fun when we beat them down there, with VY at the helm.

for all of u that want or wanted jeff fisher fired do u still feel that way? now obviously were not out of the woods yet at 3-6, but damn doesnt it feel good. we knew we were primed for a late season run and jeff is the guy to lead us, been a fan of this team my whole life and he was promoted to HC when i was 7 and i wouldnt want any other coach to lead us. we got a good thing goin, playoffs or not these last 3 weeks have been fun and lets ride this as long as it will go, big one this monday night, the old oilers goin back to houston, they beat us twice in a row, vince goin back, the big fight last time, this has the makings to be the best MNF game this yr and what a better time to showcase our team and this feeling the titans and our fans have goin, any way if our team cant get up for this, then idk what can, but any way jeff fisher will bring the intensity that is needed GO OILERS/TITANS!!!!!

The Great Debate..

Chirs Johnson v.s. Adrian Peterson.. ( who is really the better back )

I'm sure by now we have all heard the debates throughout the media outlets. Who's really the better runningback in the NFL Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson? Well lets take a closer look at who is the better back. Adrian Peterson is in his 3rd season for the Minnesota Vikings. Up to this point he has a total of 5,038 all purpose yards. This including running, catching, and returning. Peterson has accumulated a total of 34 touchdowns. While losing the ball a total of 11 out of the 17 times he has fumbled the ball.

Peterson has also accumulate a few defensive stats like his 8 tackles and 1 assist throughout his 3 years for the Vikings. Ok so in 39 NFL games Adrian Peterson is looking pretty damn good. However you have to take into granted who and where he plays. He plays in a Dome, in the NFC North, and against talented teams like the Bears, Lions, and Packers. Well maybe not so talented teams in that NFC North.

Lets now take a look at Chris Johnson. Johnson is now in his 2nd season with the Tennessee Titans. To this point Chris Johnson has a total of 2,858 all purpose yards. This including running, receiving and returning. Well not so much the returning as he only has returned the ball 1 time in his career. Johnson has found the endzone 19 times with the Titans. Chris has also lost the football a total of 2 times in the 24 games he has played for the Titans. As did Peterson; Johnson has also found a way to get a few defensive stats recording 3 tackles.

Well just by looking at the stats Adrian Peterson is the better runningback by a mile here. When looking deeper though i say he isn't. Peterson is now in his 3rd season while Johnson only his second. Adrian has played in 39 games while Chris only 24 which is a significatant difference. It's hard to digest who is really better. They both have things that make them better than the other. Peterson's power or ability to make linebackers runaway is shocking. While Johnson's speed to run 200 yards in 10 seconds is merely amazing.

Both can catch the ball pretty well, and both know how to find the endzone. The problem is handling the ball though. Peterson likes to let the ball go free from time to time. Johnson really doesn't know how to cough up the ball as good as Adrian does. The biggest problem is whom they play though. Adrian plays in the NFC where the most talented team might just be the Minnesota Vikings. I mean when you play the Lions, Bears and Packers twice a year you are bound to pat your stats at least 3-5 times. Now don't get me wrong the NFC has some good teams, but those good teams just are not as talented as the AFC.

The AFC South has a few good teams. The Colts, Texans, and Jaguars are pretty good. Chris would have as much if not more success in the NFC North as Adrian would have in the AFC South. That fact that both teams are in decent divisions is a lost subject. The fact that they both play in different confrences is not. The AFC has tougher teams than the NFC. Johnson has to find ways to sneak past teams the Steelers, Ravens, Patriots, and Colts almost every year. Peterson needs to find ways to get past teams like the Giants, Bucs, Cardinals, and Falcons. This one is easy Johnson wins based on the type of teams they play by a mile.

When it really comes down to it thought if your a Minnesota Vikings fans Adrian Peterson is the best runningback in the NFL. If your a Tennessee Titans fan hands down Chris Johnson is the man. This debate will go on and on for years to come. When this debate will come to an end is when both Johnson and Peterson are retired for the game they both know how to play very well. For now you make your own choice.

MCM Play of the Week (Week 10)

Maybe Chris Johnson's seemingly foolish statement wasn't so foolish after all, especially if he keeps playing like this. We had this exact same record in 2006 at this point in the year, and would have made the playoffs if we beat the Patriots, so even if we lose 1 more game this year, it's still possible. Here's to showing the Texans who they really are on Monday night!

D. Vince Young throws a 33-yard pass to Justin Gage. Wow. I wish this guy would show up every game wearing #12. Of course, this would mean that he fractures his back every game. He climbed the imaginary ladder, then fell off of it. This is actually the kind of pass that I would like to see from VY more. Everybody was covered so he put it in a spot where only Gage was going to get it, and if not, we live to see another play.

And this week's contest.

A. Vince Young throws a 9-yard pass to Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson is the only running back I have ever seen that can reverse field like Barry Sanders, and succeed. Vince Young also threw an awesome block to help CJ get to the edge. Also this play wasn't a huge highlight, it converted a 3rd down that led to a TD, and set the tone for the rest of the game.

B. Chris Johnson runs for a 28-yard TD. Ahmard Hall got the key block for CJ on this long run.(Side note: I wish they would have done something special for the Sarge at the Game Sunday. He deserves anything and everything from this organization.) Isn't it fun watching a player that gets to the edge and you know it's a TD? I love how the announcer just said GONE! right when he hit the hole.

C. Vince Young throws a 38-yard pass to Kenny Britt. May I have some more, please? Hopefully this is something we'll see for years to come. Britt has been a long-ball threat all year, and continues to improve as we get further into the year. He did a nice job of going up and battling for the ball.

D. Vince Young throws a 14-yard TD pass to Nate Washington. Really good decision by Young, there. It was a little off-target, but WR's int he NFL are supposed to catch balls like that.

E. Chris Johnson runs for a 1-yard TD. Chris Johnson is really fast, but he just can't be physical enough to make it in the NFL. Wait, never mind.

F. Vincent Fuller intercepts Trent Edwards and returns it for a TD. Checkmate. Is there a better Nickel Corner in the NFL? I'll go ahead and answer it for you. NO! The other players in the secondary may be stars, but they're nothing without this guy.

G. Rod Hood intercepts Ryan Fitzpatrick and returns it for a TD. 3 games, 3 interceptions, 1 TD. So long, Nick Harper (or so I hope). Oh, and thank you, T.O., for being such a douchecanoe.

H. Vince Young's collective plays. Keep doing it, big man! I'm believing in you more and more each week. I don't cringe every time you drop back to pass now.

I. Bud Adams shoots the bird 10 times. I love that my team's owner actually gets into games. You show 'em we're #1, Bud!

Anyone with two eyes can see that the team that's shown up the past 3 weeks is much better than the 0-6 team. I just wanted to bring up some stats that no else has brought up.

35% is Pretty Terrible. When you are sending your defense out on the field 65% of the time w/ no points to show for it, 0-6 happens. You just can't win like that. The more time your D is on the field, the more big plays they are going to give up. Boy did it show.

52% Conversion rate!? Quite impressive. Not only are you saving your defenses breath, you are putting points on the board and if you can atleast make it a two possession lead, you take the opponents running game out of the equation thus making your defenses job 50% easier. Haven't you noticed all of the late game picks here lately? Again, not rocket science.

I find it amazing that within the last 3 games, the Titans have nearly matched the number of 3rd down conversions that they had in the first 6 games of the season while attempting 3rd downs conversions nearly half as much! It's a stat that's rarely talked about and it needs to be recognized.

Friends, you won't win alot in the NFL if you average 14 points a game.

So lets go to the past 3 weeks.

which on average is 35 points a game. Again, it doesn't take a genius to see that if you average 35 points a game, you will win alot more than you would if you only scored 14 points a game.

Recent Turnaround not VY or CJ......

Yes Vince Young, and Chris Johnson have been playing very well these last few games. Johnson is going over and beyond what he did last year. Vince may have finally learned how to play in the NFL. However Chuck Cecil, Dave McGinnis, Jim Washburn, Marcus Robertson, and Tim Hauck. These men are the coaches that have turned around the then 0-6 Titans to now 3-6. I am by no means taking anything away from Chris Johnson or Vince Young but, look at where the Defense has come.

Rod Hood since signing with the Titans a few weeks ago has played 3 game. Odd would say ok what maybe 3-5 tlks, perhaps a INT to make himself look good. No sir Rod Hood has become a top Secondary guy for this young Titans Defense. 12 Tlks, 3 INT in just 3 games is amazing for a guy that hadn't played in a NFL game since he last played with Arizona in 2008.

The emergence of Sen'Derrick Marks, and Gerald McGath have proven that maybe this front office knows what they are doing when they draft these no-name players. Cortland Finnegan's return the the secondary has been a huge boast for the Titans defense. Then again when you get a all-pro / pro-bowl type of player back that is bound to help any team ( even the Detroit Lions ) play better. Keith Bulluck, David Thornton, and Stephen Tulloch have been play well together. However i think alot of the credit needs to go to the front line. Jovan Haye, Tony Brown and Jason Jones have been playing amazing football on the d-line the last 3 games.

And finally KVB aka Kyle Vanden Bosch is back playing like he played the last 2 years. Usually the rule is if you pressure the quarterback it will lead to mistakes. The titans have been making sure that when David Garrard, Alex Smith and Trent Edwards made mistakes they were all over it. Leading to numerous INT's, and the most important part WINS. You can credit whomever you want to for the recent turnaround, but look real close to what's happening here. The tough, hard-hitting, smash your face in defense that was the Titans last year may just be back, and i hope for good.

I recently had the privilege to go and check out the BRB and boy are they confident they will win Monday. It was actually the first time I had been there. Follow the link to see what they said about shutting down CJ, and VY (obviously they have all the answers)

TEXANS FAN: (predicting the win) WIN? Monday night? Battle Red? Inferior opponent? Hot crowd? Yeah, I gotta say I like our chances.

I don't know about you guys but the words "Inferior opponent" really get my blood boiling!

My Darling 'Dinger

I was wrong, my darling 'Dinger. Wrong about you, wrong about your talents, wrong about everything. Please find it in your heart to forgive me.

I foolishly wrote to MCM fans that I doubted your ability to properly scheme with the talents of VY and CJ.

From the opening play (even though it didn't work), I knew you had either listened or were smart enough on your own. With each successive screen, bomb or misdirection I grew more and more conVINCEd that you got it.

Even though the play calling was not quite perfect, the results spoke for themselves. Your offense was charging up and down the field with low-risk passes and wide open running lanes. The D became tired and hesitant. The opposing offense grew desperate trying to keep up. The result was an impressive W.

There were enough new plays there to give our future opponents much more homework...and enough wrinkles to add to those plays to sustain our streak for weeks to come.

Keep it up, my darling 'Dinger. You won the game and you won my heart.

Vince Young = Third Season?

Hello all just a quick question

It is said that the biggest jump in a quarterbacks efficiency and capability comes in his third season. While Vince has been in the league for 4 seasons now is it a long shot to think of this time now as his third season? I realize he has had his troubles with coverages and everything but while he has he has still maintained an ability to lead and to win.

His record as a starter now sits at 21-11

Doing the math 21-11 comes out to 32 games or roughly two full seasons of game experience so is this the progression in its due timing that should have been expected? Or is he really as late to the party as some had believed?

Pay CJ Now

Chris Johnson is about to be one of the most underpaid guys in the NFL. He has season-making, singular talent, and Reinfeldt/Fisher should get a lot of credit for drafting him where they did, locking him in at such a phenomenal 5 year price, and developing him the way they have.

CJ is currently signed to a five-year, $12 million contract. The deal includes $7 million guaranteed. 2009: $385,000, 2010: $550,000, 2011: $800,000, 2012: $960,000, 2013: Free Agent

Chris Johnson is under contract and there are certainly more pressing needs - KB53 - but the Titans would be bat shit, foil hat crazy not to re-sign him this summer to a better deal now before his value becomes too much to bear in the coming years. I'm not saying he will or that he should, but we would be lucky if he didn't holdout in 2010. I love that goofy bastard, and he will have people chirping in his ear all spring about how much he is worth. One of those voices should be coming out of the Titans front office.

AHMARD HALL (big marine)

veterans day

I'm sure alot of you guys know already know Sgt. Hall's background, but I just wanted to personally post this up for him on this website.. its on titansonline.com, but I"m not even sure if it's already here.. I served in the marines while hall was in and I wasn't a high school star but i played some football while serving in a infantry battalion in 29 palms and alot of guys say they're gonna get out and walk on to their favorite college football team. I wanted to walk on to a smaller school called texas state but never went through .. I convinced myself i was to old (22) and couldnt do it so I just stayed in class. But for hall to go thru with it and make it as a starter in the NFL and even to be on the pro bowl reserve list .. showed me anythings possible.. of course now I kick myself in the butt.. cause u just dont see things like that .. plus he's a darn good football player. I'm very proud to say hez representing the marines well . It's funny cause my younger brother has respect for him and last year made a special marine sign for him at the houston game .. and luckily my brother took a pic of it cause he sent it to me and out of luck my brother and his then fiance ran into HALL at a mexican resturant in houston and showed him the sign.. and told him thanks for everything he has shown these younger kids that anything is possible, SEMPER FI sgt Hall if you're reading this .

Lendale White

What's going on with Lendale White? does he get any carries anymore. He has been relatively quiet these past weeks. He not getting the love he used too? I know some other franchices that would love to have his character and toughness in their locker room. On another note, is Vince mania locking himself as this franchise legit quarterback of teh future or is it still to early to tell. I think he defeintly gives the whole team more confidence and swagger even on the defensive side of the. He is also a proven winner and with the right surronding cast Titans could have a dynasty on hand.

Ray Lewis

There is an interview by Rachel Nichols with Ray Lewis, ESPN will probably air the whole thing on Countdown tomorrow night, that (i hate to say it) makes me almost respect Lewis. He talks about how he calls Steve McNair's mother before every game. I've truly hated him as a player, the ravens as a team since the 2001 season. But the fact that he does that for my favorite sports figure of all time, makes it hard not to at least respect him more.
