Dominant positional strength versus overall balance

This is my first fanpost and I just joined a few weeks ago, so I apologise in advance if I'm breaking any MCM etiquette (they use an 's' instead of a 'z' for many words that end in 'ize' here in NZ; don't know why but it's become habit for me now).

Looking at Nole's scouting report on Zaviar Gooden has me really excited for our young LB corp, and has gotten me thinking about unit strength vs overall strength.

I think our O-Line and LBs (assuming McCarthy is healthy), and maybe WRs are dominant groups. I'm curious what you guys think about having a team that is overall pretty good at every position (balanced) versus a team that is average at some positions but exceptional at others (top heavy).

What do you think is more likely to lead to success. I've always believed balance is great in everything in life, but when it comes to football, I'm not so sure. I think a team with great receivers, dominant D-Line and great secondary can compensate for weaker units in a pass happy NFL vs a team that is more balanced but with no game-breaking unit (depending somewhat on your division).

In the case of the Titans, I know we are not dominant in any of the 'key' groups, but I think our strengths are a great fit for what we are trying to do. Our great Oline and receivers really help both the RBs and Locker and our speedy linebackers can both cover and will help out on the rush when called upon. (To be clear, I don't think our other units are scrubs by any means; they just aren't as strong, yet...!)

Thoughts? Any of you stat-ninjas got anything that points to a conclusion?

Edit: Just thought about McCourty, Verner and Wreh-Wilson. Are our CBs a dominant group? I think we are borderline, depending upon how Blidi pans out and if they resign Verner.

why i have Jacksonville 31 in my power poll

Jax since 2007 has been a team in Transition on Off blaine gabbert has looked like a deer in headlights C Henne has too long a windup etc but Jax main problem the last 5 years is bad drafting with their 1-round-picks

L Jockel seems like a good idea will MJD come back from the bad foot last year the same as he was in 2011 i love their WR Core provided blackmon stays on the field M Lewis is too incont as a te

their OT are good but their middle needs more work other than babin they lack pass rush how will they replace OLB D Smith their CB and S will be better than most thinks because of g bradley

Cypien has a bright future

bottom line this is a 3-6 win team that if they can get a star QB in 2014 could start competing again but will not be easy

my pick 4-12

why i have Tenn at 30 in the NFL

a quick note since i do not stop by a lot i have cerebral palsy and other health plom

i have been high on Locker but last year he disappointing me and i am sure some of u

my main problem with Tenn is the Coaching Staff is mucheck the right fit

u will have a strong running game and a improving o-line but is K Wright a Num 1 wr losing Jared Cook will hurt

u Also do not have 1 guy on the D-Tackle front that can change the game Your D gave way too many yards last year as a whole

Bottom Line Playing Jax Twice is a help but unless CJ can be the 2'000 yard that he thinks he can be u guys will struggle because locker took a step backwards and it was time to get rid of fisher but is bud adams too loyal to his guys

i see 5-8 wins overall

i say 5-11 3rd place in the AFC South

MCM Put Your Name On It 2013

This'll be a simple fanpost, I believe it was done prior to the season starting last year as well.

I'll ask a few questions below and my responses, and in the fan comments, you can post your thoughts and/or responses to the questions as well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TITANS STATEMENTS:

Q: Which Titan will be the most improved from last season?

A: I believe it will be none other than Jake Locker. He has all the tools to be successful this year, and I believe he's going to put it all together.

Q: Which Titans rookie will make the most significant impact in 2013?

A: Chance Warmack. Plugging in a player who will start and play at a high level for many years to come can only do good things for this offensive line, CJ, and Locker.

Q: What one thing do you think the Titans, if they do successfully, will vault them into the playoffs?

A: Get more sacks. I firmly believe the offense will be just fine this year, but the defense must get to QB. They should and will find creative ways to get to the QB this year, and if that results in a significant increase in sack totals, that will improve the defense as a whole and greatly improve our chances at being a playoff team.

Q: Who will be the Titans leading receiver at the end of the season?

A: Kendall Wright. I forsee a 1000 yard season for KW. Britt is a wildcard, Washington is who is he, and Hunter will make plays but make his bigger leap in production in 2014.

Q: Will any Titans make the Pro Bowl in 2013, and if so, who?

A: I think CJ will. I see a 1400-1600 yard season and 8-10 scores for him, so he should get a Pro Bowl nod.

Q: Predictions on the season (record, and other things, subject to change)?

A: 9-7, right on the fringe of a playoff birth. Munchak remains head coach, Locker has a better year than Andrew Luck, CJ outrushes Arian Foster, Bernard Pollard knocks the piss out of Andre Johnson, and we beat either the 49ers or Seahawks.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NFL STATEMENTS:

Q: Outside of the Titans, who will be the most improved team in 2013?

A: Either the Saints or the Buccaneers. I lean towards the Saints because they have Drew Brees.

Q: Which 2012 playoff team is most likely to miss the playoffs in 2013?

A: I think it's probably a two horse race between the Vikings and Colts. But since I can only pick one, I think it will be very unlikely that the Vikings return to the playoffs with Christian Ponder under center. Peterson can only do so much.

Q: Who will be a darkhorse candidate to win NFL MVP in 2013?

A: Russell Wilson. I think he's going to do big big things.

Q: Name your R.O.Y., O.P.Y., D.P.Y., and MVP.

A: R.O.Y. = Jarvis Jones. I hate that he's in Pittsburgh, it seems like a perfect fit. O.P.Y. = Russell Wilson. D.P.Y. = Aldon Smith. MVP = <strike>LeBron James</strike> honestly I think it will be Peyton freakin Manning again. I think Aaron Rodgers can unseat him though.

Q: Name your division winners and wildcard teams.

A: Steelers, Texans, Patriots, Broncos, Bengals, and either Ravens/Titans/Colts for AFC. Seahawks, Giants, Saints, Packers, 49ers, Falcons for NFC. I didn't include the Redskins because I think they will take a step back this year.

Q: Name your Super Bowl and Super Bowl champion.

A: Denver Broncos vs Seattle Seahawks. Seahawks win.

Q: Who will win the Crash4Clowney sweepstakes (aka worst team in the NFL)?

A: Oakland Raiders. Just lose, baby.

Q: Post any other NFL predictions here.

A: Texans regress this year, but still win the division. Romo will choke away a few games. Matt Barkley will start at some point for the Eagles this year. Geno Smith will also start at some point this year. Tebow doesn't make an NFL roster. Leading rusher is Adrian Peterson (surprise surprise). Da'Rick Rogers will be a good WR for Buffalo. Vince Young thinks he can still play.

This'll be a simple fanpost, I believe it was done prior to the season starting last year as well.

The Forgotten Members of the Titans Roster

This is going to be a short piece about some players that were on the roster before the start of the offseason and have been somewhat ignored because of the additions that we've made. On each side of the ball I'm going to look at one player who will play a big part in the Titans 2013 team and another that will only be used sparingly but its a better player than given credit for. The fact that I had to narrow this down to 4 players really stands out as a testament to the improved depth the 2013 Titans have that the 2012 Titans somewhat lacked. Last year all of these guys were going into the season guaranteed a roster spot and didn't have any competition. Three of these four will have some form of competition in camp to keep their jobs.

There has been a big focus on the additions to the D-Line in Ropati Pitoitua, Sammie Lee Hill and Lavar Edwards. Also given the interest that the Titans have in adding Freeney, Idonije or Abraham you could be forgiven for overlooking the players who are already on the roster. The two players I have in mind are Mike Martin and Scott Solomon.

On offense I'll be looking at Byron Stingily and Quinn Johnson two players who are going to be more important to the Titans than we imagine. Stingily is more of a long term potential guy and QJ is going to make an impact this season.

Mike Martin

Everybody seems to have penciled Sammie Lee Hill into the second DT spot next to Jurrell Casey but I would think that given a strong rookie campaign Mike Martin would be given at least a shot at the starting role. PFF loves this guy and is one of their top 'underpaid' guys on our roster. I'm not going to write much on Martin but I think he has a serious chance of being a 3 down DT in the league. With the way the NFL is going, being more and more pass oriented a big bodied guy like Sammie Lee Hill who is going to primarily be a run stuffer will get a lower % of the snaps than he would have 5 years ago.

Scott Solomon

Now I'm sure some of you would have seen Scott Soloman and just ignored it, but hear me out. This is a guy that the Titans valued enough to trade up for using a sixth rounder and a seventh rounder on last season. He's a notorious high motor guy, struggled with a knee injury last year and trying to find some evidence of him playing at 100% is pretty hard to find. However whilst doing some research for this post I looked at snap counts I think its a good indicator of how much faith the Titans have in him. For someone who only managed to suit up in 13 games he managed to get the 6th most snaps of all of our defensive lineman, more than Karl Klug. Now just under half of those snaps came on special teams. With the snaps he got on defense he managed 4 pressures in 84 snaps by no means setting the world on fire. I'm not suggesting he will be some sort of standout player, but I expect him to make the roster and hopefully take some steps forward in his second season.

Byron Stingily

I've heard some people on the site, especially recently talking about the downturn in Dave Stewarts play in 2012, whilst he wasn't a liability it wasn't his best season by any stretch of the imagination. This is the first time in a long time there is some debate as to the long term future at the tackle position. The Titans have brought in Eric Winston for a visit. Dave Stewarts leg is apparently not healing as well as we would like so it is only prudent to bring in someone to explore our options especially with Stewart in what potentially could be the last year of his contract.. That's all well and good but what does it mean to Stingily.

There was some speculation on the site before the draft about drafting a late round tackle and letting him develop. I didn't see the point because we already have that guy on the roster in Stingily. He might be the biggest athletic freak on the roster and has gotten some brilliant coaching since he got into the league. Now the first question in your head must be, well everyone got hurt on the line last year and the replacements were terrible weren't they? Well not Stingily PFF thought he showed some real promise in the two games he played at the end of the season.

Byron Stingily(+2.3) who before today had only played one NFL snap on offense. He’ll face bigger tests than Dezman Moses and Erik Walden, but he didn’t buckle where others might have. Encouraging. (PACKERS GAME)
The latest Titan to take over the right tackle spot was 2011 sixth-round pick Byron Stingily, and he also performed well, allowing only a hit in 49 pass blocking attempts. (JAGUARS GAME)

This is a guy with a really high ceiling who was taken late in a draft a few years ago who has received some good coaching and despite massive ineptitude next to him played admirably. He could well be in for a future starting role looking past the 2013 season.

Quinn Johnson

He might not be my favourite Titan but make no mistake about it we are going to be carrying a specialist fullback on the roster and he will see significant playing time. Its not easy to find interesting things about a fullback but searching the annuls of PFF I did find their look back on his drafting and they said this of him

You can never have enough fullbacks’ right? Johnson did a decent job as one of the Packers lead blockers, earning a +8.4 grade in 419 snaps before he became surplus to requirements.

I think QJ is an underrated Titan, he is a pretty good lead blocker. Fullback might not be a sexy position but its certainly one that we will get great use out of next year. Craig Stevens and Delanie Walker will play some FB as well but there is little doubt in my mind that QJ will be on the roster and be there blocking for CJ all year.

This is a post about a couple of fringe players for the Titans and two players who might be in for significant playing time this year. It wasn't meant to give any new perspective on the abilities of each player but just to showcase the strength in depth that is on this roster and hopefully shine some light on Titans players who aren't being discussed too often on the site.

GO TITANS.

This is going to be a short piece about some players that were on the roster before the start of the offseason and have been somewhat ignored because of the additions that we've made.

GO TITANS.

The Untold Story of Coach Jerry Gray: The Original Leon Sandcastle

Surely by now everyone must admit that there is a negative national media conspiracy against the Titans. And apparently this conspiracy extends to Titans coaches.

Does anyone remember the Leon Sandcastle commercials? Leon was concocted by the NFL Network and it's effort to bring more publicity to 2013 draft. Or at least that is what they want us to believe.

I’ve heard hundreds of stories from former players and to a man each were offended by the Sandcastle commercials. These gridiron greats didn’t complain about their NFL pension or bodily injuries or concussions. They were upset that the NFL Network and Deion Sanders neglected to publicly cite coach Jerry Gray as being the inspiration for the Leon Sandcastle character; undoubtedly because of coach Gray’s Oilers/Titans ties.

Most people are unaware that back in the day, the NFL used to be a clean cut and button down league. Every player was expected to exude a certain wholesomeness, a boy next door image. Before the merger of the AFL and the NFL, the players were required to “stay in their place” and Jerry changed all of that. Jerry Gray was a trailblazer. He single handedly liberated the NFL.

Jerry was the first person in the NFL to sport a HUGE thick afro and mustache. Some former players recalled that Jerry’s fro would stick out from the ear hole and the back of his helmet and when he took his helmet off, you could see the helmet’s imprint in his hair.

Other former players reminisced about Jerry’s playing style. Jerry was Deion before Deion was Deion. Jerry was the original corner back with the blazing speed and great ball skills. Jerry wore the number 21 jersey first and... Jerry was among the first in the league to talk to the media in a very high octave while referring to himself in the third person.

Coach Gray drove a sky blue 1979 Grand Prix that the ladies just absolutely loved and speaking of the ladies....well.... sorry folks but this is a PG posting. But while most of the players in Jerry’s era spent their money like drunken sailors, Jerry spent his money wisely by invested in priceless art. Immediately after Jerry signed his rookie contract, he purchased an impressive collection of velvet panther art and black Jesus paintings. And to this very day, coach Gray still has a life sized snowball throwing polar bear statue at his home that he proudly displays in his vestibule.

So to coach Gray, congratulations to you for being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. And to the NFL Network and the rest of the national media in general: Give some love to the Tennessee Titans.

And to paraphrase a meme from the 1970’s: Don’t Hate Us Because We’re Beautiful!!!

Chris Johnson and the Perception of Atheletes

It appears that our favorite NFL speedster has been making some questionable moves regarding his image this week. First he has been endorsing a strip club called the "Yellow Rose." Not a big deal to most. A lot of pro athletes go clubbing.

As a quick aside, let me note that I am a pretty conservative, religious guy. As such I find strip clubs morally reprehensible, exploitative and misogynistic. However, I also view any relationship between me and the athletes I support as just pertaining to the entertainment they give me.As long as the athletes stay out of trouble I'm good. Of course I like occasionally seeing genuinely good, moral individuals in sports and they will generally tend to be my favorite players (If Tim Tebow could actually play football he would be my absolute favorite athlete ever), but otherwise I'm not going to get my panties in a wad over CJ frequenting a strip club.

Of course CJ had to take it to another level (and that's not the second level of the Jaguar's defense). Turns out he pays a very shady character named Chester Joesph money to use his house as a place to bring his lady friends for a good time. Again it's not the fact that CJ has many lady friends, he is single. It's the fact that a shootout broke out outside the house and left a fifteen year old girl dead.

There's more.

After the shootout, which was apparently a failed burglary, Joesph was questioned and lied to the police about key facts in the case. He later told the complete truth after his cousin, former Jaguar Mike Sims-Walker, talked to him.

After the dust settled here's what we learned:

Marijuana was in the house.

NFL athletes use the house to discreetly "do the business" with girls the pick up without the media or their girlfriends/wives knowing.

None of the players were directly involved in the case.

I'd like to take a moment to point out that I am 99 percent sure Chris Johnson is not one of the four homosexual players planning to come out. Moving on.

Am I the only one who thinks it's a terrible idea to be associated with these kinds of people and frequent shady, gang infested areas if you are an NFL player. Many have noted that the house may have been a target for burglary because it was well known as a hangout for rich NFL players. That and the fact that Marijuana was found on the premise makes me believe that its time CJ starts taking his women other places, like a freaking hotel room!

As the face of the franchise it looks really bad when twice in one week CJ is tied to situations that could hurt is image. I'm not asking CJ to be a perfect angel. He is a big boy and is capable of making his own decisions. What I want is for CJ to be responsible when he does decide to do things like this. Don't get involved with shady people, CJ, it's killing Kenny Britt's career, learn from him. One day your just with 'em the next day your with 'em, in jail. My dad always said that you are defined by the company you keep, so CJ, we love you, be careful out there.

Offseason open thread #9: The "Madden will get us through" Edition

via i.cdn.turner.com

Whelp. The draft is done. FA is through. Now we're all bored. Boo. The last open thread shut down, so here's a nice and shiny brand new one to go nuts in.

Now it's time to turn to whichever version of Madden you prefer and play around with some post draft/FA rosters. Here are some updated rosters that should have all of our free agents and draftees. These guys have been putting a lot of time and effort into these rosters, and they're still working on them, so keep checking back if they aren't as up to date as you'd like.

Here's the PS3 rosters for FOTUD and any other PS weirdos floating around- PS3 Roster

Here's the 360 rosters for us normal people- 360 Roster. Also, here are the instructions for porting a roster from your computer to your 360.

I haven't tried either of them, but just at a glance it looks as if the PS3 set might be further along. I dunno, try them out and let us all know how they are.

You know the drill, move your recs from the last open thread to this one so it'll stay at the top, and keep the discussion going with whatever your little hearts desire.

Predraft Writeup on Justin Hunter

Howdy, Miracles, Seahawk fan here that thinks you may appreciate some more Justin Hunter information. It seems most of you guys are fairly excited and optimistic about him, mostly satisfied with the trade up. As a Volunteer plenty of you probably were already familiar with him as well. This is just a strangely-angled scouting report I published on the Seahawk SBNation site, Field Gulls, back in February.

In Search of Accuracy In Scouting

The tl;dr is that I think the broad consensus on Justin Hunter's negatives -- inconsistency, lapses of focus, drops too many balls -- is mostly inaccurate, mostly on account of the scattershot accuracy of Tyler Bray. To investigate I tracked every Bray incomplete pass to Hunter or Patterson in three games from 2012. I only had the strength to chart two of the three games, though.

I still think Tavon Austin was the best prospect of the class, but I felt that Hunter was next, had AJ Green upside, and wasn't nearly as much of a risk as most draftniks labeled him as. I thought he had mid-1st round talent, not just in this draft but in many, and he became my favorite prospect in the draft because I thought he was so underrated.

Since then, he'd risen on draft boards to be talked about as early as the 20s, and seemed to at least be an earlish 2nd rounder, which is what came to pass. And I still think he's tremendous value, there, even with the trade up. Don't expect rapid development, or think he'll contend for OROY. He's still apparently going to be paired with an accuracy-challenged QB, though the ascent in accuracy and effectiveness from Tyler Bray to Jake Locker figures to be huge.

I'm still super excited to see how he develops, and I'll be rooting for him from this side of the nation. The Titans have been my AFC team since that 1999 playoff run. (Well actually the Seahawks were in the AFC for two more years, so the Saints were my NFC team, but when Seattle switched conferences at realignment, I had to pick a new "other conference team" to root for, and it's been y'all ever since.)

Best of luck, to Lock, to Hunter, to you-all, and see you on October 13th. Hope you enjoy the article.

Sorry for the outlandish title...just wanted some eyeballs on my opinion read...and no I don't think CJ will ever run for 3000 yards (NFL isn't Madden), and history says that he'll never reach 2000 yards again. However, CJ has an opportunity to do something special behind his new and improved offensive line. I'm not sure what the "special" is, but it feels like Titans fans are on the cusp of witnessing something great from CJ. Sorry to interject "feelings" in this piece, but I'm already salivating at the thought of CJ running behind Levitre and Warmack! Imagine this look...Titans run a 2 TE set, with Stevens and Thompson, you put Walker and CJ in the backfield ( I only have Walker in the backfield vs QJ as Walker has a knack at getting up to the 2nd level). You put your best blocking WR on the field and run some straight up, smash mouth power football! With the read option being in right now, teams will be hesitant to stack 8 in the box, especially if you run out TT, or Walker in the slot. Can CJ actually put together a season where he stops dancing in the backfield and hit the hole and break a few tackles like his 2K season. There should be plenty of opportunity behind Warmack plowing over helpless defenders and with Walker taking out the safety, CJ could....nay, CJ should have an epic year. Okay, you can commence with replies...

Petition to Bring Back FOTUD

Greetings fellow MCMers.

It is a sad time around these parts amidst the celebration of a great draft and off-season to this point. One of MCM's regulars, fanoftheunderdogs, has decided to leave MCM. The reasons for, I do not fully know. But it seems to be out of frustration of being accused of things, coupled with the whole Nate Washington debate.

I hate to see fellow MCMers leave over reasons like that. While no one is perfect or has a perfect opinion, FOTUD was a staple and a key veteran here at MCM. He provided comical relief while usually having good football arguments. No one is going to agree with everyone, and obviously he was caught in the fire of a lot of arguments that became heated, but that's going to happen.

My petition is more aimed towards FOTUD himself. If you're truly a lurker, you should be reading most of these posts. If you read this, I ask that you COME BACK! MCM is not the same without you. Take some time to cool off, but come back.

Afterall, we're not just a crazy awesome fanbase over here at MCM, we're a brotherhood. We all share a common bond, and that's our love for the Titans. Just remember that.

With all that sappy junk out of the way, I expect to see your name in the comments of posts during the 2013 season. If I don't, you'll be sorry.

GO TITANS!

The Window Opens

The window...

One of those sportswriter buzzwords that can be as exciting as a slice of white bread, but is a meaningful term to the fanatic in all of us. It denotes a sought after time and place where preparation meets opportunity, where personnel, management , and coaching share one vision. Toss in a bid of good luck and fortune can smile brightly upon our team and cast an afterglow that makes all the bad times worth it. Not every team gets a window and they are fickle as sirens drawing ships to the rocks. They can be open for a streak, for a season, for a decade, or sometimes never at all, but rest assured fate dictates that one day your ship your team will be shattered on the rocks. And that is why the window is so special.

So why wax poetic about a sportswriter idiom? Very simply Rewind a few months to December and the Titans looked like a rudderless ship on fire in a hurricane inexplicably stuck in the desert. Pardon the phrase, but us fans needed change we could believe in and change started out strangely. It did not make much sense that Alan Lowery was fired, while Jerry Gray stayed. Reinfelt was dismissed, but was he the problem and what to make of keeping Munchak and Dowell Loggains when both have not shown they have what it takes. In other days in those dark, cold December and January days we could all admit there was not much too look forward to next year if things stayed as they were. There was not the hint of a window, there was a big fat brick wall of woe between the Titans and the promised land.

The cracks in that wall started forming with the hiring of Greg Williams. Williams can build championship defenses and the combination of Gray and Williams has years of NFL success behind it. Then came free agency and a normally complacent front office erupted with the full blessing of Bud Adams to do what it took to build a winner. Bricks came tumbling out the wall as the Titans made 12 signings and replaced or put players who could not get the job done. If you were not on board the train it did not matter how much potential you had, you could feel free to go underachieve somewhere else. Finally it looked like for once that there was a frame being built into that once impenetrable wall and nails were not being pounded in random places. There was a definite plan going on here. The vision was not clear yet but good things were happening.

Watching the last day of the draft right around the time the Titans were making the two biggest value picks of the draft in Brian Schwenke and Lavar Edwards I heard it. It was the click of the window now clean and polished opening. I have a clear sense of what 2013 and beyond could look like and for once the Titans are prepared for bad things to happen as you can point to single positions in 2009 cornerback, in 2010 quarterback, and last season offensive line late and linebacker early that absolutely wrecked a season. The talent on the roster is young and I am hard pressed to find a position group where there is a group of players who are not in or potentially hitting what could and should be the prime of their careers.

The offensive line should be the best in the league with the additions of Warmack and Levitre. Our tight ends can beat you in the air as chain movers and on the ground as road graders and CJ and Greene should be able to average 4 yard a carry with their shoe laces tied. Teams looking to stack the line will pay for it when Britt, Washington, Wright, and now Justin Hunter and others make plays down field cause Jake has a laser-rocket arm. Defensively we attack and beat you into submission with young talent that can absolutely fly at Linebacker, interchangeable pieces on the defensive line that can show multiple looks, which should help a solid secondary look solid every game this season even against the better passing attacks we face. I should add that Bernard Pollard will knock the piss out a you.

I have already run the risk of being too rosy in my sentiments as we all know nothing is guaranteed. Can Locker take the next step and will the staff play to his strengths like other teams have to get their young quarterbacks early success ? Can Griffin keep his head with the help the front office provided for him in Pollard and Wilson? Will the tandem of Chains and Gains TM. be better together than apart? Who will actually make this team at receiver and who will play it well or will the potentials of Kenny Britt, Hunter, and Kendall tease us more than please us? How many games will Britt be suspended? Is there a member of the defense truly ready to be a game changer or is a solid collection of talent not good enough again? Hell can these coaches even coach their way out of a paper bag because many of were ready to throw the towel in a few months ago myself included?

The answers will come as the window appears open to every team the day after the draft and even Jacksonville's 1 fan has high hopes today. Still I can not discount the enthusiasm and excitement as a mere mirage as I as look our Titan's window I feel the coming season could be one heck of a ride and even better this team has started to build to sustain success for seasons to come. If you are still reading I could really sum all this up in a few words. The window is open so LWSS.

Titans 53 Man Depth Chart

via prod.static.titans.clubs.nfl.com

Here is my roster prediction for the 2013 Tennessee Titans. Getting this team down to 53 players on a depth chart was both exhilarating and heart-breaking. I nearly lost my mind going from 58 to 53. That was the most difficult aspect and could go a myriad of different ways. Before everyone takes turns ripping the last 30 hours of my life apart, I would like to point out a few things.

Brian Schwenke could beat out Velasco, but I gave the veteran the benefit of the doubt. The loser of the camp battle should back-up the entire, interior offensive line. There really is no loser. Good luck to both and I'm happy either way.

It, figuratively, broke my heart to cut Marc Mariani. I gave the edge to Reynaud, because he can play receiver in a pinch and we are stacked at the position. I'm still pulling for Mega-Man and I pray that his leg is fully healed.

I would have loved to remove the Fullback position entirely to make room for Daimon Stafford or Chris Spencer. I'm assuming we will use a FB more this year and Munchak has been vocal about keeping one on the roster.

Without further ado, here is my Tennessee Titans 53 Man Depth Chart for 2013.

PFF's FA ranking (#6 Edge defender).

6. Israel Idonije

2012 Grade: +17.8
2012 Snaps: 726

Summary: This free agent draft class on the edge defenders quickly runs out of steam and we’re either into big risks or players that you simply sign on a year-by-year basis to get production from them until they run out of steam. The classic example of this in recent seasons has been Vonnie Holliday who has consistently played out one-year deals and just played very well on whatever snaps he was given. After an excellent season on a one-year contract in Chicago, Idonije could be lining himself up as the 4-3 equivalent for the next few years.

With the size and ability to rush the passer from inside and out, Idonije is a valuable addition for any 4-3 team and his improved run defense this season (+7.5) only increases his value as you don’t have to carefully manage the snaps he plays. Returning to Chicago is a logical choice for Idonije but on a one-year deal anywhere, a team will be getting good value.
