Tennessee Titans Morning Links: The First of Many Wide Receivers Editions, I'm Guessing
Anybody think Broncos cast-off Glenn Martinez solves our WR problem? Me neither...
As Scout.com rumor says the Titans may be interested in meeting with Patriots 2006 1st round pick Chad Jackson, which I can dig. Much like the Martinez situation you have to doubt that he'd make much of an impact, but at least they're trying to find someone.
So are the Titans' WRs just not talented, or are they soft? I say both, in several cases.
In case you missed it in the offseason: the Jaguars hired former Bills head coach Gregg Williams, who was our defensive coordinator during the Super Bowl run, to coach their defense. Williams, a notoriously arrogant jerk, is already creating enemies in Jacksonville.
Gary Estwick waxes philosophic about Chris Johnson, botches RB coach's name.
Good piece on Keith Bulluck from a New York area newspaper makes not so bold statement:
He's probably the greatest defender in Tennessee Titans history already.
Agreed.
The Titans are partnering with LP to help metro school kids and teachers with free classroom supplies. To help this great cause fans are encouraged to bring school supplies to donate to the Titans-Jacksonville game this Sunday.
The 13 biggest hits in football history includes Chris Henry nearly getting his capa detaded from his head.

Tennessee Titans Morning Links: The Ghost of Bum Phillips Edition
The Broncos claimed Calvin Lowry off of waivers Sunday. There's no confirmation to the rumor that when the Broncos tried to contact him, Lowry was juked-out by his cell phone as it vibrated on the table.
A feel good piece on the Titans' final cut survivor, David Ball.
Chris Johnson is chomping at the bit to hit the field. In other news, LenDale is proving to be the Titans' quote machine this year:
He will lie on the bottom of piles where linemen whose weight rivals refrigerators are in no rush to get off his back, his legs, his chest. When Johnson tries to get up, some defenders will push him back down. They will talk to him. Their words will not be encouraging....
It doesn't mean you have to let them boss you around when you have the ball in your hands," said fellow running back LenDale White...
A quick rundown of cuts across the league... anyone else stunned that Willie Anderson was cut by the Bengals? Guess he should have hit somebody or gotten a DUI.
In our daily Paul Kuharsky update, he answers readers' questions on the Titans, Vince Young and Jeff FIsher as Obama's running mate. He's also got thoughts on Chris Henry:
On Henry, I have to say [he's just hanging around because he was a 2nd round pick, not because he earned it]. I think his 2009 replacement may all ready be on the roster: Rafael Little is rehabbing a knee injury suffered at the Senior Bowl and is on the Titans' non-football injury list. (Yes, it was a football injury but not in football with the Titans, who signed him as an injured undrafted rookie out of Kentucky.)
Former Titans receiver Courtney Roby made the final cut with the Colts.
ESPN breaks down each team's schemes... if you say that 3 times in front of a mirror the ghost of Bum Phillips appears.
Richard Justice, a favorite of Texans fans/bloggers everywhere, writes a deservedly fawning column on VY's number retirement ceremony from this past weekend in Austin.

Tennessee Titans Wednesday Camp Linkage
The City Paper Camp Confidetial.
For the second consecutive day of practice Quinton Ganther ran as the third-team running back, dropping Chris Henry to the fourth unit in most drills. Ganther enjoyed a standout game with 115 yards on eight rushes with two touchdowns against the Rams.
Could the Titans cut Chris Henry? (Vote in the poll at the bottom) Frank Wycheck made an interesting point on the radio yesterday morning. He said that you can't teach a running back vision, and Henry just doesn't appear to have it. If Ganther has some success against a better Oakland Raiders defense this week Henry could be in trouble.
Titans Radio practice report.
During seven-on-seven, the offense began to stall but still showed good chemistry between the receivers and quarterbacks. Young showed consistent improvement in the deep passing game connecting with a rehabilitated Justin McCareins on a twenty-yard touchdown pass.
More encouraging signs on the progress of VY. I can't wait to see McCareins in action against the Oakland Raiders.
Jim Wyatt blogs about the battle between the receivers for spots on the roster. At this point I am not really concerned with which guys are going to make the roster. I just want to see a couple of them step up and prove they can make plays consistently. I haven't seen that from a single guy on the roster.
VY passed out copies of Madden '09 to a bunch of the guys after today's practice. It would be pretty funny to see those guys playing Madden against each other. Anyone get the game yet? How is it?

A Few Thoughts on Chris Henry
David Climer wrote an article in yesterday's Tennessean about the differences between Floyd Reese and Mike Reinfeldt when it comes to keeping draft picks. Reese would keep his draft picks at all costs, while Reinfeldt cut some of his last seaon. Climer then goes on to say that he thinks if Chris Henry doesn't step up in camp this season that his roster spot could be in jeopardy.
I don't agree with that. Henry wasn't terrible as a running back last season. He had a great game against the Oakland Raiders with 4 carries for 48 yards that included a 24 yard TD run. The Titans had to know that Henry was a project when they drafted him because he didn't produce at all in college. It would be really dumb to give up on him after just 1 season.
The other reason I don't think he will be cut is because the Titans are not going to carry less than 3 running backs. LenDale White has a running style that is going to lead to a lot of bumps an bruises, and Chris Johnson isn't built to be a 20+ carry per game back. Which guy that is currently on the roster would get a spot ahead of Henry? There is no one behind Johnson that has the raw speed and athleticism that Henry brings to the table.
It is way to early to give up on Henry. Did he prove to be worth a 2nd round pick last seaosn? No, but that doesn't mean you cut him. He will be given at least another year to prove what he can do.
What do you think? Will the Titans cut Henry if he doesn't have a good camp? Should they?
