Tennessee Titans Thursday Camp Linkage
From the City Paper Confidential:
When camp breaks, the dizzy bat race involving the rookies is usually the most noteworthy item. Not this time, however. While all the other Titans rookies were being spun around and pelted with ice and Gatorade, injured rookies Lavelle Hawkins and Cary Williams got it 10 times worse. They were taped to a light pole by Keith Bulluck, Albert Haynesworth and Rob Bironas, then sprayed with mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, chocolate syrup and baby powder. On top of that, it then began to rain, drenching them in the mess.
Terry McCormick also mentions that Steve McNair paid a vist to practice. It is the first time Air McNair has been at the Titans facility since he was locked out before the 2006 season. McNair is still my all-time favorite Titan. I am glad to see that he has put that whole incident behind him.
Jim Wyatt tells those of us who want Anquan Boldin to dream on. I think all of us are aware that it won't happen, but it is nice to dream. I don't know why Wyatt feels the need to take that away from us. It would really be awesome if it did happen now since he came out with such a matter of fact statement.
Wyatt also has 5 things we know from camp, and 5 questions we still have. # 2 in 5 things we don't know is are the receivers up to the challenge? I think that should be in the 5 things we know because the answer is obviously no.

Why Wouldn't the Titans Trade for Anquan Boldin?
This from titanbt53:
Anquan Boldin wants to be traded. Yes, his agent is Drew Rosenhaus. Yes, he has a 4 year 22 million contract. But isn’t that around what we gave Givens??
It’s obvious Vince needs an exceptional reciever. We get that with Boldin. And for what?? A second round pick, which I expect would be around the 50-55th pick of the draft.
It’s about time to spend some money and take a risk, because with Anquan Boldin, our run game, and defense, I see the Titans as a top 5 team in the league.
Yep, that about sums it up.
Now I think the Cardinals would probably ask more than just a 2nd rounder, but so what? I would give them next year's #1 because with Boldin on this team there is no way they don't make the playoffs. Heck, I would even give them next year's #1 and a #2 or #3 in 2010.
The one question on Boldin is his health, but doesn't getting a big name receiver have to be lucky for the Titans at some point? The odds are in their favor after how things worked out with Yancey Thigpen, Carl Pickens and David Givens, right?
VY needs a weapon. Sure Alge Crumpler is a big upgrade at tight end, and Lavelle Hawkins looks to be a good threat, but Crumpler isn't going to stretch the field much anymore, and Hawk is a rookie receiver who is currenlty injured. Plus the addition of Boldin would open up the field for guys like Justin Gage, Justin McCareins and Roydell Williams, who are all decent receivers, but would look a whole lot better with a legitimate threat on the other side.
Step up to the plate Mike Reinfeldt.

2009 NFL Free Agents
If the Titans don't take my advice about acquiring Jason Taylor and Anquan Boldin, there are plenty of quality free agents to be had after this season. Here are the ones the Titans should look at targeting (in order of importance):
1. Terrell Owens Roy Williams
Owens is a free agent, but I would rather line up offensive lineman at receiver than have him on the Titans. Williams is the perfect receiver for Vince Young. The Titans should back up the Brinks truck to his door.
2. T.J. Houshmandzadeh
Williams is a better fit for VY, but getting Housh would be a huge upgrade to the Titans receiving core. If both of these guys do end up being free agents, there is really no excuse for the Titans not to get one of them.
3. Tommie Harris
I don't think I have to tell you how good a defensive line that featured Albert Haynesworth and Harris would be. Teams would have to throw on every down.
4. Julius Peppers/Will Smith
Adding either one of these guys would greatly upgrade the Titans pass rush.
Obviously the Titans will not have the cap room to add all of these guys, but if they could get 2 of them it would make them an instant Super Bowl contender. The bonus to getting these guys would be that the Titans wouldn't have to give up any draft picks.

Jason Taylor and Anquan Boldin Skipping OTAs: Go Get Both of Them
Jason Taylor isn't happy in Miami. Taylor might be 33, but he started all 16 games last season and had 11 sacks. How many defensive lineman on the Titans defensive line not named Kyle Vanden Bosch were healthy all season? Can you imagine a pass rush with Taylor on one side, KVB on the other, and The Freak rotating in and out. That pass rush with a healthy Fat Albert in the middle would be a recipie for a Super Bowl. The questions is what would it take to get him? I would give up next year's #1 for him, because if he is on the team that pick will be at least in the high 20s.
The same thing goes for Anquan Boldin who isn't happy in Arizona. I would actually give up more to get him because he is younger. The Titans have a whole heap of receviers who haven't proven they can do much. The Titans have proven they aren't going to spend a high pick to get a receiver, or even trade up in the 2nd to get one, so why not just trade your picks and get a guy you know can play? You would have to give up some combination of a #1 and a #3 to get him, but as much as I love Michael Griffin, gramsey you might want to stop reading now, I would trade him and Paul Williams for Boldin.
I know these deals will never happen, but what else do we have to talk about right now? I would love to hear your thoughts....
