Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Reunions And Milestones Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 It's a tall order to ask our boys to saddle-up against their best opponent of the year (yeah I said it) on a short week after a very emotional win on Monday Night.  If they can win. however, it'll tie the franchise record for consecutive wins:

... the Titans approach a milestone that would tie them with the 1993 Houston Oilers for the most consecutive wins in franchise history. (That ’93 Oilers team, however, is best remembered for defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan taking a sideline swing at offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride in a game).

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Paul Kuharsky goes in-depth with Smash and confirms that LenDale really is as happy as he seems to be with his new role, and he relishes all of those TDs like a big brat with... well... relish.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Haynesworth is chomping at the bit to face his old University of Tennessee teammates, and current Packers, Chad Clifton and Scott Wells.  Something tells me they aren't nearly as excited to see big Albert coming at them!

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Brandon Jones laments about choosing between football and baseball... who knew he was drafted by the Yankees coming out of high school?

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Ex-Bills/Titans/Broncos running back and pater familias extraordinaire Travis Henry plead not guilty to charges related to his cocaine trafficking.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star puts Albert Haynesworth in his top 5 MVP nominees.  There's no chance of that happening, but he makes a solid point:

The first inclination is to say not a chance. But not so fast. What if the unbeaten Titans finish with the best record and Haynesworth is among the league's sack leaders?

The 320-pound force has six sacks in as many games, which ties his season high set last year. And he anchors the top defense in fewest points allowed at 11 per game.

It's been that kind of season . . . why not?

Denver Broncos Release Travis Henry

ESPN.com is reporting that the Denver Broncos have released running back Travis Henry.   Broncos' coach Mike Shannahan said Henry's commitment was the problem:

"Although Travis has the ability to be one of the top running backs in the NFL, we have to make decisions that are in the best interests of our organization and its goal of winning a Super Bowl," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said in a statement. "We did not feel his commitment to the Broncos was enough to warrant a spot on this football team."

As I said last week, the Titans absolutely made the right call by letting Henry walk after the 2006 season.

Revisiting Travis Henry

We have criticized the Mike Reinfeldt led front office for a lot of non-moves he has made.  Yesterday there was news that the Denver Broncos signed Michael Pittman because Travis Henry's injured hamstring is healing slower than they thought it would,  and it got me to thinking about the day Travis Henry signed with the Broncos.

There was so much panic that day.  We were all ready to run Reinfeldt out of town before he even completed a draft.  Turns out he was a lot smarter than we knew.  Not only did Henry not live up to expectations last year in Denver, a story came out that he has a bunch of kids that he wasn't current on child support for and had to borrow money from the Titans, and now it appears that he wasn't in shape for the start of OTAs (That is usually what hurting a hamstring this early in the season means.  Not always, but usually).  Oh, and he is one positive drug test away from being suspended for a year.

Kudos to Reinfeldt for making the right move and taking all the heat.

A couple of notes:

  1. There is no point in arguing with BBS over his views about Vince Young.  The only thing that is going to shut him up is VY having a great season and beating the Colts twice.  That probably won't shut him up, but it will at least be a start.
  2. I will be looking at the 1999 Tennessee Titans draft later this afternoon.  Stop back and weigh in on it.
