FanShot Quotes

It changes a lot. The defense has got to choose. Do they want to stop 10 or do they want to stop 28? That is what me and Vince say everyday. Whichever one you choose to stop, the other one is going to have a good day.

A 2-6 team laying a touchdown to a 3-5 team? Sure! Why not? I like how they're playing. Or maybe I'm just excited for Chris Johnson in "Madden" next August. I don't even play "Madden" any more, and that might suck me back in all by itself. Like having Barry Sanders back from the dead.

7. Chris Johnson will continue to dominate highlights. The Titans running back recently said during a radio interview that he wanted to be the Kobe or LeBron of the NFL. If he continues to break off long-distance touchdowns it's going to be hard to laugh off the statement. Think about it: Johnson already has five touchdowns of 50 or more yards, including runs of 91 and 89 yards. He's averaging an astounding 6.7 yards a carry and, according to one opponent, has earned enough respect that players no longer chase him when he breaks into the open because they don't want to be "posterized" -- an NBA term for the guy who's in the picture being dunked on by the likes of LeBron or Kobe.

(on the referee overturning the call)

Again, you’re looking for indisputable visual evidence to overturn a call on the field. As you look at play after play after play, you would assume that he stepped on the line. That’s the uniqueness of this call. I think it speaks volumes about the uniqueness of our replay system. There’s things that come up all the time. I can see, when the referee came to me after the series was over and said he clearly stepped out. I said, ‘Well his heel wasn’t down.’ He says, ‘He was out of bounds, the shot shows he was out of bounds.’ I said, ‘The heel wasn’t down.’ He said, ‘We can discuss this all day long.’ I don’t know if you saw the Colts game yesterday, but the replay challenge right before half on the fumble, that’s what replay is there for, to sort those things out.

(on if Alvin Pearman will continue to return kicks for now)

At this point, yeah I think we will. The roster is still, there’s some uncertainty on the roster with Dave (Stewart). We’ll have to see how Dave comes on this week and how Mike Otto comes on this week.

(on Leroy Harris’ affect on the game plan)

We did not make any changes from the time Dave (Stewart) injured his hamstring to the time we kicked off. We stuck with our offensive game plan which I think speaks volumes of what Leroy’s able to do.

(on it not being an easy position for Leroy Harris to step into)

No, I know it. That’s a very difficult thing to do, especially in the National Football League when you’re going up against a good defense like this. That’s why I said after the game and I’ll repeat myself again, that was a tremendous effort by Leroy, by Munch (Mike Munchak) and by the offense, the tight ends to get him ready to play as well as he played in the short period of time.

(on Chris Johnson’s touchdown run on fourth down)

There was an adjustment, goal line defensive adjustment on the fourth and goal. We had that play in the game plan that I thought would have walked, but they made the adjustment. When we saw two guys on the outside edge, there was some concern. C.J. just makes them miss. That’s what happens. Sometimes players need to make plays. Sometimes you can’t do everything, draw it all up perfectly and guess right all the time as coaches. Sometimes they just have to make plays. That’s what’s been happening the last couple of weeks: Justin’s (Gage) catch, both catches by Justin Gage were huge catches in this game, balls that are being tipped, Jacob Ford’s rush that caused the ball to come out empty handed and things like that. Those are the bounces that we didn’t get that we’re getting right now. Players are making plays.

(on Vince Young)

He was consistent. He did exactly what we expected him to do in this ball game. He managed the line of scrimmage. He made his adjustments and his checks. He used his legs. He grasped new concepts that we put in with enthusiasm and he gave players a chance to make plays with the football.

(on Mike Heimerdinger’s play calling)

We’ve had these things in, but now we have the opportunity to call them. We called a halfback pass on the goal line. There’s a lot more for people to defend now which will hopefully give us some opportunities.

(on Justin Gage)

He’s really sore. It’s like he fell off a ladder. That was a great catch, but he’s sore. We’re going to do some tests to make sure he’s ok.

Some interesting stuff from Fisher's Monday Press Conference

Side Note: I realize that Patrick Willis is an exceptional athlete and has unheard of speed for a LB. THERE IS NO WAY HE CAN CATCH CHRIS JOHNSON. JUST STOP IT. I got so tired of hearing the commentators talk about it yesterday

(Nate Washington on playing for the first time with QB Vince Young as a starter)

It’s funny because at the beginning of the game I kind of told him I was honored to be playing with him. You watch a guy like that at Texas, and you watch a guy like that early in his career, coming from where I came from, you never play with guys like that. To be actually able to play with a guy like that, and be able to see the things he can do and create, oh, it was a great honor to be out there tonight. We just have to continue to get better for him. We can’t be complacent from him. We have to know that the sky is the limit from him.

"A lot of us were talking to him. I told him, 'Get up and play ball, you little crybaby.' I just lost a lot of respect for him that day."

Last year, in the first six games of the season, Tennessee allowed seven touchdowns.

Yesterday, in a 36-minute span against New England, Tennessee allowed eight touchdowns.

(on if Jevon Kearse’s play affected him being inactive for the game)

No, basically it is a difficult decision for a staff when we have to get from 53 to 45. There’s a lot of moving parts. I think in Jevon’s case, you referenced the fact that he wasn’t there, again this is between he and I. When you let a player know 90 minutes before kickoff that he’s going to be inactive, sometimes it’s a hard thing to accept. I don’t blame him for having a tough time to deal with that, but it was a decision that we made. It was a last minute decision. I wanted to keep Dave (Ball) up and so we’ll move on.

(on why he wanted to keep Dave Ball active for the game)

Dave hadn’t played in the last couple of weeks and the young guys were playing well. Dave had a good feel for it. Dave could also do some things at tackle for us. He’s done that before in this type of scheme. We didn’t have J. J. (Jason Jones) and we needed Dave’s, the potential for Dave to pass rush inside the tackle. It was just the decision that we made.

(on if it sends a bad message for Jevon Kearse to not be on the sideline)

This is between he and I. It was a big game, it was an emotional thing and we’ll sort it out. As far as the message is concerned; he’s a great teammate, he’s had a great career and he’s still got a lot left.

(on the rules for inactive players)

He won’t be fined. Again, this is between he and I.

(on the plans for Jevon Kearse for next week)

You’ll have to wait and see. Ninety minutes before kickoff we’ll give you the inactive list.

(on if there is a rule requiring inactive players to be at the game)

My rules don’t change from year-to-year. I have consistent rules. Again, this is between Jevon and I.

FAIL!!!! I don't know about everybody else, but this really ticked me off. Although Fisher said it wasn't because of performance, it obviously was. Why do you choose to bench Kearse? Sure, he's not having a stellar year, but neither is the DE lining up across from him. Why do you leave Mark's active? He hasn't done anything.
