Players the Titans should target this offseason. Part 2: NFL Draft- Offense

Like I did in part one I want to look at players the Titans should target, this time through the draft. This is not a mock, and we will not be able to have all the players, but we need to give each and everyone of these a hard look. Picking the 7+ players to add to our team next year is a big deal. 1st round through 7th round. Its more fun to find the best of the best, but that is not what the draft is about. A lot of this teams best players were late round finds (Jason Mccourty 6th round, Avery WIlliamson 5th round, Jurrell Casey 3rd round.) So I want to look at players I think will be good pros, and I will admit I am not a scout, dont want to be, not trying to be. I just enjoy watching football and some of these guys stood out to me over the past year(s). I believe a starting tackle/Center should be found in free agency, but we shouldn't count out the draft for a lineman or two.

I'm only going with offense right now. Will do Defense next

ok, thats enough, lets get to it.

  • Laremy Tunsil OT Ole Miss 6'5 305

He has been mocked to the Titans over and over, so we are taking him, right? I don't know. He has been touted as the best tackle to come out in x number of years, but I swear I hear that every year. He is legit, played against the best, and did a great job. has the size speed and body for a LT in the NFL. And considering we have argubly the worst offensive line in the league he is an obvious choice. Saying that, the lack of success by highly drafted tackles in the last few drafts has to be a concern. will he be any different. who knows... not sure we should be the team to find out.

  • Laquon Treadwell WR Ole Miss 6'2 215

Last year Oakland gave their new shiny qb a legit outside weapon. results? 700 more passing yards and 11 more TDs for Carr. the numbers are not that black and white, but Cooper took the Raiders offense to another level. Treadwell fits that mold for the Titans and Marcus Mariota. He is big, plays big, is strong, wins, and is a good route runner. People say he will do poorly at the combine, and that will dictate his draft spot, but like Mike Evans, you can just tell by watching him, he gonna be good.

  • Corey Coleman WR Baylor 5'11 190... or so they say.

A straight Burner. 20 TDs this past season. Plus try to name the quarterbacks he played with.

Treadwell is your typical number one. but Coleman brings that something special, and does it flashy. Watching him it is hard not to picture Antonio Brown. and like Brown he is also an electric punt returner. And unlike Treadwell he will likely light the combine on fire. The one comparison people will make is Wright, because they both went to Baylor. But they are not the same. Wright had 30 TD's in four years... Coleman had 32 in his last two years. He also averaged 18 yards per catch compared to Wright's 15... and Wright had Heisman RG3 to throw to him.

  • Ryan Kelly C Alabama 6'4 300

Kelly is a mauler with an attitude. he fits the bill as a leader and NFL Center. People will not want this because, first, he is a Center. second, he will go in the 2nd round. Third, they want that vet in the middle. I totally get all three of those reasons, but the dude can play and will be solid in the NFL. I want that.

  • Pharoh Cooper WR South Carolina 5'11 200

Cooper will be downed because he isnt actually amazing at anything. but he can do everything. he can play outside, slot, in the backfield. He has a similarity to Wright but is bigger and a better athlete. I wouldnt love the pick but I think he is going to be a good pro and depending on how the draft falls he could be had later in the draft, leaving us to use other picks on more glaring needs.

  • Devonte Booker Utah RB 5'11 215

I want to like him... but be damned if everytime I watch/read about him I dont picture Sankey. besides the identical build/size, both have the quickness but not the top end speed, both came in with pass pro issues, both are that, we can do a little of everything but at the same time, not do any of those that well. kiss of death for RBs now a days in my opinon. But then I watch him and he has that moment of damn, dude can play. One thing that stands out that separates him from Sankey is how physical he can be. not someone who avoids contact, or falls back from it. so not really sure.

  • Ezekiel Elliot RB OSU 6' 225

Like Booker, Elliot is well rounded. Unlike Booker he does most of them very very well. not as physical as booker and other backs, but has that top gear, and break away ability. I get why he will go in the 1st round, but I disagree we should look at him there. I put him here though because he can without a doubt help this team. a great athlete who has the vision and shiftyness needed to be a feature back. a draw back would be, how many of those "homeruns" were caused by the O-line just beating the hell out of the defense, over Elliot doing it.

  • Sterling Shepard WR OU 5'10 190

Again, a great athlete, but more of the short burst shifty type like Wright than the top end speed of Coleman. But Shepard can make plays. and that is always needed. Shepard feels like he has been around for ever as a four year starter at Oklahoma. And I think he fits that mold of "production over potential" that we may lean towards going forward. All in all he is a good football player, and we need more of those.

  • Demarcus Ayers WR Houston 5'10 175

Not that big, not that fast, not that polished. but he is a competitor and can play football. May go undrafted, or may sneak in to a late round pick. As a Memphis fan I watched a few games of Houston's and man he stands out.

  • Paul Perkins RB UCLA 5'11 210

I will admit he is one of my favorite players in this draft. If you haven't watched him play, PLEASE do.

A bit slight in size, but showed he can power through tackles. solid blocker and catcher.

but where Perkins shines is his speed and agility. he can fly, and is electric in the open field.

(stop me if this sounds familiar.)

I wouldn't compare him to CJ, nor should anyone, but Perkins has showed he is a legit football player who can pickup yards in a hurry. I wouldn't want him to come in and be a feature back, but he brings something that is hard to find, a homerun threat change of pace back that can be dependable in passing downs also.

Take out the speed and big play threat, dude is a consistent runningback. Where Booker got all the love as the Pac12's best RB, Perkins was better. More yards and YPC, in less carries, More durable, and just as good as a pass catcher out of the backfield. and will go a solid round or two later than Booker. Sorry, but Perkins has the chance to be the best back in this class (yes the last sentence was biased, but still could be the truth.)

As you can see I left off some of the higher ranked prospects, but I just dont feel they are what the Titans should look at.

I also stayed light on offensive line. I don't think we need depth as much as starters and if we don't get some of the top at their position, we should be looking at FA as our answer. I think the experience some of these guys got the past year or two of playing makes them solid depth, as they now have time playing and at least had to learn something... or maybe not.

Players left off:
D. Henry- Big heavy footed back who will probably be as good his first year as his 5th year. I just dont see the upside or draw to him. a GREAT college back, but NFL? I see him follow fellow Bama backs as average.

J.Doctson/M.Thomas- Both are bigger body slower WR's. both have hands, but neither are great route runners IMO, and are not much more than Sanu or a Marvin Jones. 2nd round is to high for either one. If one shows they are more athletic at the combine, maybe that changes.
