Who gets cut based on today's press conference?

Today we got to hear our new head coach and general manager talk about some of their plans.

When asked about the biggest areas that need improvement he said the secondary and that they need to get the offensive line worked out as well. He later talked about running back and said that position would be addressed in the offseason and mentioned how in the past he had Michael Turner and Jerome Bettis.

So what does this mean for players currently on our roster?

Secondary

He said that the secondary was the biggest area of need.... That has to tell you that we will have at least 1 new starter in the secondary. Mularkey has praised D'Norris Searcy and he played really well in 2015. Jason McCourty had a down year but is still by far the best cornerback on this roster and thus releasing him would just create another hole. Perrish Cox played well early in the season when he wasn't being asked to be the top corner.

I believe that Michael Griffin will be let go. Jon Robinson talked about free agency and putting values on players for ability and cost. If he does the same thing for the players on the roster Michael Griffin will be gone with his $8 million salary.

Offensive Line

This one is tricky to figure out but a couple things are certain. Taylor Lewan and Chance Warmack will be starters in 2016. For Taylor Lewan it might be at Left or Right Tackle.

Mike Mularkey did specifically mention Poutasi today. He said that moving him to guard was the right call and that he is much better suited for that position. Which leads me to believe they might go into 2016 counting on him as being the starting left guard.

I believe they will add a veteran at center in free agency. But who goes Gallik or Schwenke?

Byron Bell was brought to the Titans to play guard with it being acknowledged that he struggled at tackle. Well with it seemingly appearing that the Titans have their guys at guard what does that mean for Bell? I wouldn't feel comfortable going into the season with him as the starter at Right Tackle. However he was one of the more vocal players about keeping Mularkey. I could see them keeping him on the roster as veteran depth. Which might not be a bad idea for a guy that has started NFL games at every position but center.

Running Back

They said the position will be addressed. The Titans currently have Antonio Andrews, Dexter McCluster, Bishop Sankey and David Cobb. So that means at least one of those players will be gone. Which one(s)?

Antonio Andrews is a free agent. It was hardly impressive but he was the teams leading rusher and the guy that Mularkey leaned the most on down the stretch. I could see where they might just let him go in free agency. I could also see where they keep him around for depth.

David Cobb was a rookie who didn't get to show very much until the end of the season. All the same he is more like the type of running back that Mike Mularkey seems to want on the roster. He will be here in 2016.

Bishop Sankey may be on the outside of this mix. He was a 2nd round pick from the previous regime that has been mostly a bust. He was benched early last year and then they tried to get him involved as a returner and that ended in disaster. What also matters is that he fits more of what Ken Whisenhunt wanted at running back than Mike Mularkey.

Dexter McCluster would be my pick. He is one of the smallest running backs in the league and seemingly has declined as a returner. Not only that but he is making $3.65 million in 2016.
