I was as puzzled as everyone else with the selection of Lewan at #11, however, after some consideration, it looks like a great pick.
He's a beast in the run game, a solid pass blocker, and really a steal as far as he fell. I know some people were pulling for Manziel or Bridgewater with this pick but I really think Jake is going to do well this year, and if he doesn't, I like what I saw in Zach Mettenberger. You can't justify taking a QB that highly and not playing him, it would have created an instant controversy at the position. I want to wait and see if Whiz really is the Quarterback guru he is billed as.
You may point to the fact that we signed Michael Oher in the off season, but I doubt he will even start a game for us. He graded out as the worst OT in the league for run blocking last season. I really would like to see Lewan push him for the starting job. We are building a strong, young line like the one that was opening holes for vintage CJ and Lenwhale. I would like to see us have the kind of O line that dominates in both run and pass blocking for years to come. great teams are built in the trenches so kudos to Whiz and Ruston for looking towards the future.
