The Titans will obviously have a few needs in the NFL draft (RT, ILB, Pass rusher, QB and RB to start with) and the Senior Bowl is an important part of the scouting process. With those needs in mind, here are the five players I will be keeping an eye on today.
Marcus Smith DE/OLB, Louisville
Smith isn't a name that pops off of the page, but this guy is an absolute player. As a Louisville product, Smith didn't get much attention from the media and really hasn't played against any elite talent, but that is what days like today are for. He has great size and instincts, and could very well turn out to be just as successful as guys like Khalil Mack and Anthony Barr.
Derek Carr QB, Fresno State
While he will have his detractors, I think that today will be a great day for Carr's draft stock. He is competing in a game where all the other quarterbacks are reportedly a step below him, and that should mean that he will really be able to stand out. Carr has many of the tools you want in a franchise QB, and he could be on his way to Jacksonville if he has a good day today. If not, he might be a guy that Tennessee should consider at 11.
Jordan Zumwalt ILB, UCLA
Zumwalt isn't a guy that I would pound the table for in the first two rounds, but in round four I am hard pressed to think of a player that I would like more. Intensity and aggression are the tools Zumwalt uses, and the Titans could use a tone setter in the middle of the field.
Dee Ford DE, Auburn
Ford is a guy I am not in love with, but someone that I have continued to read about all week. If he is really blowing past offensive linemen on a regular basis, and can show that he has some sort of inside counter-move in his pass rushing arsenal then I would be very intrigued.
Ra'Shede Hageman DL
Hageman is the big mystery of today for me. He has the size and ability of the first rounder, but just hasn't been able to put up the production of a first rounder. His frame indicates that he would be best suited for a 3-4 DE role, and I think having someone like that on the roster to pair with Casey (on 4-3 downs) could make a lot of sense.
If the Titans can get him in the second, I think they will have to consider whether they want to build in the trenches with a guy like Hageman or go with a pass rusher like Smith or Ford.
