Tennessee Titans' Alterraun Verner Ranked #1 Corner Week One

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans' Alterraun Verner ended up being the best corner in the league according to Pro Football Focus in week one. Hopefully Jerry Gray doesn't try and get cute in week two.

That's right folks.  After all the hoopla during the preseason about this year really being Tommie Campbell's year, Alterraun Verner had a statement game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Apparently Pro Football Focus has ranked Verner as the #1 cornerback after one week of football.

Last week I put out a post on Jerry Gray's comments, speaking to the fact that the door isn't closed on Tommie Campbell.  That was before Sunday's game however.

Personally I feel the idea of platooning starting corners is a bad one.  Starting Tommie Campbell over Verner against the Texans simply because Andre Johnson is a big physical receiver, and Campbell may be able to jam him at the line of scrimmage, is a poor line of thought.

Andre Johnson is an elite receiver that there's isn't necessarily an answer to.  Johnson has averaged 1489.5 yards a season for 4 out of the last 5 seasons.  The other year was 2011 when he was injured.  No one stops Andre Johnson.

You should have your best players on the field no matter what in my opinion.  And Verner is better than Campbell.
