For years, we were stuck with Vince Young at quarterback. He had the potential, the athleticism... but we kept waiting on him to put it together mentally. We waited, and waited...
But then, we found out the hard way. He threw his shoulder-pads into the stands. He yelled at the coach and stormed out of the locker room. He was released.
He was a bust.
All those years of waiting to see if he would reach his ceiling, and instead he hit the floor. Our franchise was set back several years. While this didn't seem to affect Reinfeldt, I can guarantee there was one man in the Titans front office that was seething with anger and frustration. There was one man that never wanted to see this happen again.
That man was Ruston Webster.
The minute he takes over as General Manager, he makes sure it will never happen again.
Who are the three biggest question marks on our team right now? Jake Locker, Chris Johnson, and Michael Griffin. They all have the potential to take this team to the next level, but the Titans don't know if they will reach that level or not. They can believe in it, but at the end of the day, they can't see the future. They don't know for sure.
Now, Webster wants to ensure that we don't sit around for three or four years, constantly waiting to see if these guys hit their ceiling. Enough of that.
He's going to rebuild our offensive line. He's going to add a violent Bama run blocker (Warmack). He's going to add a tight end whose main niche is blocking, and being able to line up in the backfield as a fullback. Now, Ruston has made sure of it.
We will find out if Chris Johnson can reach his ceiling in 2013. No waiting for years. No holding out hope. No other reason he can fail. No more excuses, CJ.
He's going to add an amazing young pass blocker (Levitre), a physically imposing rookie receiver (Hunter), a WR coach that will make certain that the receivers are going all-out on every down, and a defense with the attitude of stopping drives and forcing turnovers instead of "bend but don't break". Now, Ruston has made sure of it.
We will find out if Jake Locker can reach his ceiling in 2013. No waiting for years. No holding out hope. No other reasons he can fail. No more excuses, Jake.
He's going to bulk up the front 7. He's going to add tons of depth up front. He's going to bring in a defensive genius that loves to play press coverage and bring the blitz. He's going to add several veteran strong safeties. Now, Ruston has made sure of it.
We will find out if Michael Griffin can reach his ceiling in 2013. No waiting for years. No holding out hope. No other reasons he can fail. No more excuses, Griff.
That is what makes Webster such a great GM already. He has removed all doubt surrounding our biggest question marks. Now, he can know for certain whether or not they will contribute to this team, and he will know by the end of this season.
