Stay connected for news and updates

Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

In an effort to cut down on the illegal tampering this year, the NFL has instituted a legal tampering period.

The NFL is trying something new this year with a "legal tampering period." The goal here is to cut down on all of the illegal tampering that has been going on for years (and still is). Here are the details:

When: The legal tampering period starts at on Friday night at 11:00 p.m. (Central) and ends at 3:00 p.m. (Central) on Tuesday.

Who: Teams can contact the agents for players but not the players themselves. Players without agents can not negotiate with teams. This applies to unrestricted free agents only. Not restricted free agents or exclusive rights free agents.

What: Teams can not execute contracts with player agents. They can negotiate and set the parameters for a deal, but they can not actually execute the contracts until free agency starts at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Where: Nowhere. As in, players can not meet with teams until Tuesday. Agents can talk but visits can't happen until Tuesday.

Needless to say, there are going to be a lot of rumors flying around this weekend.
