NFL Free Agency 2013: Titans met with Ryan Fitzpatrick

Are the Titans actively seeking a replacement for Matt Hasselbeck?

This is interesting. The Titans have apparently met with Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was cut by the Buffalo Bills last week. Obviously if the Titans were to sign Fitzpatrick, that would be the end of Matt Hasselbeck with the Titans.

Fitzpatrick played well at times for the Bills, but he was never good enough to justify the ridiculous contract they gave him a couple of years ago. He would be an interesting back-up option here. His upside would be higher than Hasselbeck's in that role at this point, but he could not replace the knowledge Hass brings to that room. The knowledge might be more important if Jake Locker stays healthy all season.

Could they bring in Fitzpatrick to have an open competition with Locker in camp? Sure, but we all better hope Locker wins that one going away or we are all in trouble.

The numbers on a Fitzpatrick contract would also be really important. Would they save enough by signing him and cutting Hass to sign Elvis Dumervil? If the answer is yes, that is a mighty intriguing proposition....
