Former Packers LB Brad Jones is visiting the #Titans today, per his agent. Team looking for more vet experience. Several teams interested— Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports) March 15, 2013
Here's an interesting tidbit on Jones from PFF:
3. Brad Jones
2012 Grade: +9.0
2012 Snaps: 688
Summary: After some underwhelming play as a 3-4 outside linebacker, the Packers moved Jones to inside linebacker. Then Green Bay had injures at the position which allowed Jones to emerge as an every-down starter. He managed a positive run defense rating in nine of 11 regular season games. In coverage, he allowed a 68.4% Catch Rate, which was fifth best for middle/inside linebackers who were targeted at least 30 times. He might lack highlight plays, so fans might not be excited to have someone like Brad Jones on their team, but the fact that he can play both run and coverage well makes him a valuable option.
If Jones signs here, it would help the depth at linebacker tremendously. The Titans have already signed Moise Fokou to provide competition to Colin McCarthy and backup the other linebackers but signing Jones would help even more. In the event that McCarthy gets injured again in 2013, Jones would allow Fokou to focus on backing up the outside linebacker positions exclusively instead of having to learn the stresses of calling plays like a middle backer traditionally does.
Would I welcome a Jones signing? Yes. He would ultimately help bump the likes of Patrick Bailey, Tim Shaw, and Gerald McRath off the roster for good. The days of witnessing the backup linebackers look helpless and aimlessly lost when forced onto the field are long gone. It's great to see the front office recognize the need to field a reasonably competent backup linebacker corps in the event of injuries and fatigue.
