Titans Free Agency: Saints sign CB Keenan Lewis

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

A Titans target comes off the board

Jim Wyatt pretty much confirms my prediction that the Titans were interested in Steelers CB Keenan Lewis. I floated the Keenan Lewis theory early this week as a side note in one of my posts. Ruston Webster must be reading my stuff lol. It's a shame that things didn't work out but there are plenty of cornerback options still left on the market.

Lewis is an up and comer after getting the starting nod in 2012 for the first time after some injuries in the secondary. He's only 26 years old so he has his prime years ahead of him. The Steelers really wanted to keep him but were unable to do so with their cap situation. A third round pick in 2009, he steadily worked his way up the depth chart, often times outplaying the veteran Ike Taylor. I agree with Kuharsky's opinion that he would've made a good outside corner that would make Alterraun Verner play a nickel role, where he's better suited. Lewis signed a 5 year, $26.3 million contract that featured a $10.5 million signing bonus. Would I have paid that much for him? Yes. It would've been a much more wiser use of salary than overpaying for Shonn Greene. Lewis would've provided insurance for the Titans should Verner walk after the 2013 season (which is a distinct possibility should he have a good 2013). The Titans also have had success in bringing in Steelers free agents that went on to have good careers in Nashville.
