First off, I would like to address the report that our front office wants a power running team and Munchack is moving towards a pass first team. If we want to be a power running team, we are going to need a running back who power runs. CJ is definitely not that person and I think it is unfair for the organization to make him do that. It very obviously goes against all the skills CJ has as a runner. If we want to power run, Shonn Greene should be our primary back and use CJ in special packages. I am pretty sure CJ is the worst running back ever at breaking tackles. I wish we could keep CJ, but I don't see that happening. To move towards a power running team there is a back I would suggest targeting in the Draft. Brandon Oliver from the University at Buffalo is a bruising back we could get in the 5th or later most likely. I have seen him play for a couple years and he runs very well. I think he would be a good power back.
Concerning Jake Locker and his 2015 option. This doesn't really seem like big news to me. Clearly we would not pay him $13 mil in 2 years when we don't know if he can stay healthy. We can still sign him to a new contract anyways, which I doubt would even sniff $13 mil. I love Jake as a player and think he can develop into a good starter, but he has to stay healthy, no question about it. This Jay Cutler news excites me a bit. He has some personality issues, but he is a good QB, and would really help this team. I think with an established quarterback, this offense will hum. We have good skill players, we just need a consistent QB back there to run the offense.
I would also like to put my word in on our coaching staff. Munch has to go without a doubt at this point. We have all heard the stats about his coaching these 3 years, and they're not good. 3 years is plenty of time to evaluate a Coach and the personnel he wants, players and coaches. Munch never seems to be able to adjust at halftime and if the original gameplan doesn't work the whole game we are doomed. As for Loggains, I think he is being unfairly hung out to dry. I don't think he is as bad as people think, but I think his playcalling gets hampered by streaky Fitzpatrick. He has hot an cold stretches within the game and it throws any play Loggains has out the window. It's hard to say his playcalling is horrible all the time, when our quarterback also can't finish the simple throws. He has definitely had moments we should forget ( Three in a row Screens), but I also think he has done well incorporating our 3 most potent offensive weapons in Wright Walker and Hunter. I don't even know what is going on in the run game so I am just ignoring that. I am not familiar enough with different run play styles to say what he should call more often, but i know CJ should not be running up the gut.
On the defensive side, I think Jerry Grey has to go. The defense just looks supremely out of its league at times and way to passive and reactionary. I don't know what to do with Williams because I am not sure what he does on a week to week basis with playcalling and such. We know he has an aggressive history, so it might be worth keeping him around with a new coordinator to see what they can devise. After a great defensive start, our defense only shows up some weeks recently. We also need a new ST coach without a doubt.
In Conclusion, Fire Munch, Cut CJ, Fire Grey, Keep Loggains and Williams (hopefully)
