The only reasonable way to start a thread about free agents that pique my interest for our eventual offseason is to state, emphatically:
1. Alterraun Verner. PAY DA MAN PAY DA MAN PAY DA MAN. Our new defense is scary as hell, and the fact that Verner is over there shutting down receivers and snagging turnovers at a high yield is one big reason why. You plucked this guy from the fourth round, now it's time to treat him like the diamond he's been crafted into and give him a contract. Something like McCourty's contract would be a steal for us, but obviously I wouldn't be too upset if they had to give him a higher number. Verner seems like a real nice guy who would take a contract that, while still lucrative, is still team-friendly; so, I'm not too concerned. Just lock this beast up at first opportunity.
2. Greg Hardy. Hardy is 25 years old coming off his first double-digit sack season. He's also a very large presence at DE, weighing in at 6'4 290 pounds. Despite that large body, he's a very dangerous pass rusher. You may remember him as the guy who was aiming for 50 sacks this season. He's no slouch in run defense, however, and that's a quality trait to have. He probably won't come cheap, and that's where his real flaw is. Still, a dream of having Hardy across from Morgan and making our defense even more terrifying to opposing QBs while adding more bulk across the line (which we all know BIG GREGG loves) is a dream worth having. It probably won't happen, but I'd shit my pants if it did.
Feel free to add to this way too early thread.
