Well....that sucked. The good news is I was kind of expecting an ugly game so I wasn't as heartbroken as I'd usually be. The game ended about 30 minutes ago so this is pretty early but I'll go ahead and make a list of pros and cons (yes there were actually pros...ish). WARNING: I'm a realist so I won't hold back.
Pros:
Jake Locker and the Passing Game: Well you could count this as more than one pro but oh well. Locker looked really really good today. He had a couple mistakes (the fumble and the INT that may or may not have been his fault) but overall he looked great. Nate Washington, Kendall Wright, and Jared Cook (thank God) all looked good save for a couple drops. When Kenny gets in there, I think this passing game could really be a force.
Cons:
The Running Game: Again, this is what I expected so I wasn't that surprised. The o-line does nothing for CJ or any other back. It's simple: the Titans can't run the ball. It's hard to tell sometimes in week 1 if our team was bad or if the Patriots defense was just that great, but even if the Pats have a great run D this year, our running game sucks. Time to accept it and fix it with different personnel.
The Defense: Now it's obvious that the Patriots probably made our defense look worse than they actually are....they tend to do that. Nevertheless, we had almost no pressure against a supposedly bad offensive line except for a few pressures here and there. Most of the time Brady had all day, and he doesn't even need that much time to kill you. The secondary looked like a joke (looking at you Michael Griffin) and Ridley ran all over us all day. That shouldn't happen with supposed studs like Jurell Casey, Karl Klug, and Colin McCarthy. The good news is I'm not pressing the panic button quite yet. I'm a realist not a negative nancy. This was Tom Brady after all and like I said, he'll make you look worse than you are. It's a long season and things change and hopefully we can turn our D around quick.
Injuries: Colin, Nate, and Jake all went down today. It sounds like a nightmare and it felt like one on that Washington "fumble." If the NFL and the refs could get their crap together then Locker likely would never have gotten hurt. But anyway, it looks like McCarthy and Locker will be OK and we'll see about Washington.
Well it was certainly a tough day, but the good thing about going against an elite team right away is you know exactly where you are in relation to the rest of the league and the Titans have a long way to go. Hopefully the Titans can make adjustments and get healthy this week, and next week will be laughing about this game when we beat San Diego 59-0
